Chapter Sixteen: Champion

Roaring, looking into the sky while soaked in blood, I stood there, midst the so well known arena. Panting while my was hearth passionately, rapidly beating in uneven rhythm. My mussels shaking and trembling from exhaustion. My sight dwindling, giving way to the darkness. But not only that all my senses were failing me. I could only hear a dampened cheering and crying. The smell from the blood ascending into my nostrils, became fainter. At last I felt my grip on the dagger in my right fail and my knees coming nearer the rough, muddy, blood-soaked ground. Thereafter my memories faded.

I was sitting, still excited, from the fight, on a bench in a little hut. Here is like a little hospital for O.V.O. fighters. My wounds were all healed up, the blood cleaned and now I was needed to calm down and regain my strength.

The first thought after awakening was, that I finally made it to the champion rank. I had fought hard, every day. I won. I lost. But even more I grew, I outclass my past by a large margin, without doubt. Over the year that passed I gradually, polished my skills and pushed myself to the utmost limit. And now all paid off.

I was now part of the best, and more than that. I was youngest to ever make it so far in the history of O.V.O.. As the winner of my recent match was determined, the crowd cheered, praised and hailed me. Over the long time I was active, I received a large fan-base and well-known. I had one of the best win-loose ratios. Mine was 227-23. So only every tenth fight I lost. Through my good performance I made some good money, most of which I saved.

In the school-free time I was in Aldorem. I met up with my old friends; visited my lovely spot on the chasms edge and had fun with my siblings. My birthday was wholesome, but sadly Nian was unable to come to my 20th birthday, due to rumours—as he wrote in a letter. The hearsay was about a neighbouring country wanting to evade our land. But even worse was that more and more monsters were attacking recently people. As Nian is from a noble background his parents don’t want him in danger and so he must stay where he is. He wrote some more and explained how he is doing and what is going on in his life. I wrote him back but sadly got no reply yet.

School was really boring and I began slacking off and concentrating more in practical fighting. This was visible in my marks, they dropped down. But not so much, only by a small margin. So I was now not the best in school any more, but still in the top 10%. My low effort for the academy gave me time, valuable time. Noting in life is as important as time, it is the fourth dimension and the fundamental of all. It is the only enemy that can’t be overcome. It reigns supreme and will be the end of all. The time I got, I used to train more and more. Without doubt I was the strongest in my grade. And when considering the ranking from O.V.O. one of the top 10 overall.

My last fight was against a champion, a now former champion. Only 10 are allowed to coexist and to become one, you have to crush one. That is the rule.

Our match lasted for three hours straight. Our strength, speed, skill were completely equal. No one had the upper hand. For this fight I used my loved daggers and my short-sword. My opponent used only daggers. He used his inner-energy to accelerate And reinforced his weapons when clashing. I was more on the defensive side, I created barriers to block incoming attacks and had my inner-energy centred around my core. As the fight was one of endurance, my strategy was supreme. I would have likely lost otherwise. Time passed and we both were getting more slopy simultaneously. After one and a half hour neither of us was able to control our energy any more. So we began fighting with more physical force. Only thanks to my superior will I won in the end.

Lying still in the bed, I saw staff hushing through the small building. Some other dude was taken here, he was far worse hurt than me. Looking over to my right I could see, the guy I fought. He was surrounded by four, in white dressed persons surrounding him. They held their hands over his body. I could see the wounds I inflected mending together slowly but steadily.

A staff-member came over to me and said, I was allowed to leave whenever I want. As I thought my state was fully alright again, I decided to throw my oversized t-shirt over my trained, with scars embellished body. So I stood up from the white, fluffy bed and went towards the exit.

The hut is located directly in front of the entrance to the arena. As I emerged from the bright building, into the damp world again, I was greeted by cheers. The arena was throbbing over a fight, just ending. And then one of the audience saw me, and so I was the centre of attention all of a sudden. I the newest member in the champion class.

The winner of the match just now, must have felt sad, as he received none attention. He left with his head hanging down. But as I didn’t want to be an asshole I went up to him and said:”nice finish, I would have liked to see more”.

Afterwards I made my way to the guy, who registered me here, a year ago. He shook my hand and congratulated me, while reaching me a new card. He said “I saw the beast in you, the moment you came strolling here”.

The new card was black, O.V.O. stood centred in the upper half, beneath was written “Champion”. The Text was shining in a yellow, glittering in gold. The design looked alike to a strengthening stone. All around were veins of yellow making their way trough the card.
