Ep. 1261 Aftermath Part 1

"It's possible. If she does, I just hope she has no idea that it was me."

Myria says "How could she possibly know?"

"Krenocia pointed out that some of the souls who ran into the forest might have seen me. They would absolutely tell Mythica if she thinks to ask them."

Myria says "What do you plan to do then?"

"Avoid her like she has the plague. What else can I do?"

Myria says "Couldn't you just admit to it?"

"And how am I going to explain taking the cores of two hundred or so angels without telling her about the goddesses?"

Myria says "Just tell her you ate them! If she knows anything about you, she would believe it. Honestly, I am surprised that you don't plan to eat all of them and are going to give some to the goddesses."

"I doubt that would work and even if it did, it would make me the enemy of every angel in the pantheon. No, I will stick to avoiding her for as long as possible."

Myria says "Then you are bound to run into her, that's just how bad your luck is! Oh, we are moving out, so I have to go. Stay safe and try not to cause any more trouble! I love you!"

"Love you too! I will stay safe, don't worry."

Myria laughs and says "I notice you didn't say anything about not causing any trouble!"

Myria laughs right up until she cuts the connection and at that point I get up. I start flying west, towards the empire's border with the demon lands. I am just going to count on the tattoo to restore my mana, I can't sit around anymore.

I already have enough mana to gate to the tower which is going to be my next stop. If I don't go explain myself in person, Lin is going to end up being mad at me. If Seronia already spoke with her, which she probably did, I am already in trouble.

If I put off explaining myself for too long, Lin will be really mad at me and will make me suffer. However, I am pretty sure that as long as I show up and tell her everything, she will be okay with it. She doesn't like me taking risks anymore than Myria does, but Lin understands better.

Maybe it is just because Lin has had more chance to get used to how I am. Hopefully, Myria will get used to it soon and won't be as angry with me. Although, while being in trouble can be annoying, the making up afterwards is definitely fun.

As I am flying, I avoid going near any of the empire's cities, I don't want to scare the people. Besides, I don't want to do anything that would increase my chances of meeting Mythica. The farther west I go, the less cities there are that I need to avoid, but that isn't a surprise.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

People would be less willing to live near the border where demonic beasts attacks are more likely. There will still be some, after all with soldiers stationed there, there is money to be made. As long as there is money to be made, there will be people willing to take the risk.

Since there are flying demonic beasts, I doubt that I can cross the border unnoticed. Luckily, I still have the medallion that Emperor Amn gave me, it should allow me to cross. Not that normal soldiers could stop me, but I want to avoid causing a commotion.

The border does not have an actual wall, it is just a series of military bases and outposts. The area of the border is far too large, building a wall would cost a fortune. It would also be very expensive to move the border if there was an actual wall.

Camps and bases can be moved much more easily and are also cheaper. Since the border just recently moved, I am expecting the outposts to still be in the process of moving. Logically, the smaller outposts would move first since they are easier to move.

I spot a walled city and as I go around it I spot what looks like a military base past it. Deciding that it is a good choice, I land and approach the base on foot. The guards spot me before I get too close and many arrows are aimed at me.

Taking out the medallion, I hold it up where it is easy to see and keep walking forward. I don't know if they can identify the medallion from this far, but no arrows get fired at me. Not that I am all that worried about the arrows, unless they are enchanted they won't hurt me.

Still, I would prefer not to raise a fuss, so not getting shot at is definitely better. By the time I reach the gate, it is already open and an officer is waiting to meet me. After letting him examine the medallion I explain that I plan to cross the border and don't want to cause any problems.

The officer is very courteous and seems quite pleased that I am warning them. He immediately has someone send word to the forward outposts that I will be passing by. From his words and actions, I am guessing that rumors about me have spread among the army.

The fact that I spot quite a number of soldiers coming over and peeking at me seems to confirm that. Or I could be wrong and it could just be that they have never seen a beastman before. Although that seems less likely, either way their actions are fairly amusing.

Once the officer confirms that the outposts have received word, I thank him and take to the air. Since I no longer have to worry about being spotted, I head straight west. It is pretty easy to tell when I have crossed the border, I start seeing packs of demonic beasts.

While I could easily blast them from the air, to save mana I swoop down and use my sword. Not all demonic beasts have a core, only the stronger ones do, but I kill every beast that I see. That is because I also want to grind experience while I am at it so that I can level soon.

Besides, clearing out the area will help take some pressure off of the southern empire. I imagine that moving all those bases and outposts while fighting isn't easy. Then again, they are probably used to it, but it isn't like they are going to run out of beasts.

No matter how many I kill, I won't be sticking around long enough to make a huge impact. Now, if I could gather them up and wipe them out with a single spell, that would be a different story. Considering the numbers that Amn told me, I am thinking that the demons might have another gate hidden somewhere.

They may even be building another one to replace the one that Lin and I nuked. Either way, I would say that we should expect massive amounts of them when the war starts. The plans I have already account for that possibility, but it still worries me a little.
