Ep. 1293 Soul City Part 3

Argannon says "Materials for the soul palace are divided into low, medium, and high. This is based on the amount of growth they provide. Low rank materials can be used without limit. Medium rank can be used a certain number of times, normally five to ten. High rank items can only be used once."

"Okay, great. So, from the description this is low rank and can be used as many times as I want?"

Argannon says "That is correct. This material's effect is fairly weak, it will only grow the soul palace by about a foot."

"Great! Is this the only one you have? Or do you have more?"

Argannon says "I have a dozen pieces. How many do you want?"

"Well, since they are ten thousand a piece, I can only afford six. So I will take six pieces please."

Argannon says "Alright, here you go. That will be sixty thousand soul coins please."

  "Here you go."

Argannon says "Thank you for your business! Is there anything else I can help you with?"

"I don't suppose that you would be willing to take trade for that chest piece? Say two pairs of boots and a pair of bracers?"

Argannon says "Well, normally I don't accept trades, but three for one? Yeah, I will make that trade!"

  "Excellent!"

Argannon says "Here you go. Thank you for your business!"

Soul Armor: Chest Piece Defense +4 gained!

Soul Armor set complete! Set Defense now Level One!

New Armor Equipped: Helmet +2, Boots +2, Bracers +1, Pauldrons +1

As soon as Argannon hands me the chest piece, everything happens automatically. The armor pieces I had stored in the soul palace were equipped without me having to do anything. It isn't what I was expecting, but it is a nice surprise and I am not about to complain.

Argannon says "Is there anything else that I can help you with?"

"Ah, are soul crystals or potions something that can be sold?"

Argannon says "Yes they are. Crystals typically sell for a hundred soul coins each and Potions are normally around five thousand soul coins each, when you can find them."

  "They don't seem that rare?"

Argannon says "They aren't too rare, but people don't sell them often. They are a life saving item, most people keep them."

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

"That makes sense. So, would you be interested in buying them?"

Argannon says "I'm not interested in the crystals, but I'll buy any potions that you want to sell."

"I can spare six. How about we trade for three more materials?"

Argannon says "Done! In fact, I will throw in an extra material just for being such a good customer!"

"Awesome! Thank you. By the way, are you always here? If so I will be back for more business."

Argannon says "No, not always. I use this square when I have stuff to sell, but my stall won't be in the same place twice. It is first come, first served when it comes to stall spaces."

"Alright. Well, whenever I am in the city I will check to see if you are here."

Argannon says "You are welcome anytime, but the stores that actually have a building will have more items than I do."

"That's fine. I am mainly concerned with increasing the space of my soul palace. The materials to do so are all I am really after."

Argannon says "The stores have many more materials and ones of higher rank. You won't get very far just using low rank resources. You should also think about getting a soul pet. They help to increase the speed of farming soul coins and also can help expand the soul palace."

"No, I already have enough beasts that I am raising. Wait, what does the soul palace have to do with a pet?"

Argannon says "You should be aware that the palace can be expanded through internal pressure, right? Well, when you are not in soul form, the pet rests in the soul palace. The pet's presence generates pressure that will slowly expand the palace. The stronger the pet, the stronger the pressure."

"Interesting. What is the intelligence level of common pets? Are they expensive?"

Argannon says "Low level pets are relatively cheap. You can get a pretty decent one for a thousand coins or less. They don't normally have any intelligence. Unless you raise them to a really high level, they are just like normal beasts."

"Hm, if it will help the soul palace grow, maybe I should get one."

Argannon says "I highly suggest it. Especially now that you will be able to get one once you use the materials."

  "What do you mean?"

Argannon says "The soul palace can't support a pet until it is double the starting size. In total you got ten materials from me which is just enough to hit that mark."

"Oh, so is everyone limited to just one pet?"

Argannon says "No. The soul palace can support another pet once it hits ten times the original size. A third can be supported once it hits twenty times the size, but very few beings reach that level."

"So I need to go back and use the materials, then go looking for a pet?"

Argannon says "Yes. That is unless you are able to control your soul palace remotely, but that is a rare skill."

"No, I don't have a skill like that."

Argannon says "Good! If a newbie like you had that skill I would be really jealous."

  "Um, okay."

Argannon says "Oh, if you do plan to get a pet, don't sell your crystals."

  "Huh? Why not?"

Argannon says "They are what you feed to a pet to increase its level. If you want the pet mainly to improve your palace, you should feed them to it."

"Oh, that makes sense. Thanks for the advice!"

Argannon says "No problem. Welcome to Soul City, I hope to see you again."

With a final wave, I walk away from the stall and leave the square, but I use the wrong road. I end up even more lost than I was before finding the small market. With no map and unable to fly, all I can do is wander around and hope to find something familiar.

Instead, my wandering takes me to an even bigger market square that is full of people. From that, I am guessing that I am now closer to the center of the city. That means that I have been going the completely wrong direction and need to turn around.

However, now that I have found a bigger market, I am curious about what's here. So, instead of turning around, I head into the market and start looking around. Considering the limited types of products, there is a surprising variety for sale.

From what I can see, there are at least a hundred different materials just to expand the soul palace. The ones here are all low or medium rank, so this isn't even all of them. Unlike the smaller market, there are a few stalls here with pets, but they seem expensive.
