Either way, I would rather eliminate the demons completely and make sure that they can’t hurt any innocents. After all, the demons are here because of the ancestors of the people of the peninsula. Since I have accepted some of those as my people, I bear some responsibility to clean up their mess.

  Besides, I owe the goddesses for granting me this life and wiping out the demons is what they want. I feel that I owe them at least that much in return for everything that they have done for me. The fact that they are both insanely beautiful and have feelings for me has nothing to do with it.

  With the crystals now in my possession, I use one of them to refill my mana and then gate back to the fort. I immediately go back to the room that Leonarr and Muyaun are working in to fill them in. Leonarr promises to make security arrangements for the new gate.

  Muyaun agrees to look through the available people for anyone who wants to be a sailor and notify me. After talking to the two of them I head into the castle and go down to my workshop. Once there, I start working out how to build the gate and have it have the extra options I need.

  With all the experience I have with gates it doesn’t take me long to build the gate frames. Making an emergency cut off for it also doesn’t take me long, but the signaling function is a bit harder. However, in figuring it out I accidentally come up with an improvement for the communication amulets.

  It will allow them to use the gate network to boost their range and it won’t cost much space for the enchantment. The hard part is going to be going around and updating all of the amulets that I have handed out. Although, the only one likely to need the extra range anytime soon is probably Pol.

  Thinking of that, I should probably put teleportation platforms in the Free Union and the kingdom at some point. I can reach those places that I have been without them, but it will make it a little easier. Also the more platforms that I add to the network, the more it will boost my gate range.

  Still, that is not really a priority, it is just one of my many random thoughts. Thinking about it doesn’t distract me though and I quickly finish the twin gate frames. The main difference from normal gates is that the frames have a red and green crystal at the top.

  When the green light is on traffic can pass through, but when the red light is on traffic has to stop. Of course, this is inspired by my world’s traffic lights, but stealing things is basically a habit at this point. Besides, it works so why mess with it? Also, it is just easier to use something I am familiar with.

  However, it hasn’t been long enough for Leonarr to assign security personnel, so I keep crafting. I use scraps of materials since the communication medallions don’t need to be fancy. The new enchantment works exactly as I was hoping that it would and I don’t need to modify it.

  I spend a few hours crafting, get some food, and then go looking for Leonarr and Muyaun. I find them in the same office, still working on sorting through all the new people. I hand each of them a medallion and a small box full of normal looking amulets.

  Muyaun says “What are these?”

  “The medallion is an upgraded version and the amulets in the box are linked to it. Give them to your subordinates and they will be able to communicate with each other and you.”

  Leonarr says “Thank you, these will make keeping track of things much easier.”

  Muyaun says “While I appreciate the thought, I am already able to communicate telepathically with my tribe members.”

  “Right, but that only works with your tribe members. These will allow you to also communicate with the new people you are recruiting.”

  Muyaun says “Oh, good point, I didn’t think of that. You are right, these will prove to be useful. Thank you.”

  “You’re welcome. If either of you run out and need more, let me know. Now, I am going to the new city to establish the gate and meet with Pol’s subordinate. After that I will be visiting the southern empire to establish the other end of the gate. If you need anything, use the medallion to contact me.”

  Leonarr says “Understood. I have already sent orders, a security detail should be in place by the time you get the gate established. Considering how close the training base is, there shouldn’t be any problems. Even if someone did manage to use the gate to invade, our response would be very quick.”

  “That’s true. I did consider that when deciding where to place the gate.”

  Muyaun says “I will have someone assigned to monitor the gate. They will track who is coming through and will also have orders to summon the military if anything like that happens. That way we can guarantee that the army gets the information as fast as possible.”

  “Good thinking. You don’t need to worry about what goods are passing through the gate, Pol’s people will handle that. Your people should monitor the people coming through and make sure they aren’t up to anything nefarious.”

  Muyaun says “No problem. I will also be adding some people to the ones going through and start establishing a network in the southern empire.”

  “Alright, but you can take it slow. The southern empire isn’t a high priority right now.”

  Muyaun says “I understand. Starting now while it isn’t as important means that I can work slowly and do the job properly. Rushing to get spies in place when you need the information is always a bad idea.”

  “Fair enough. Do things how you think best. I was just making a statement, not giving an order.”

  Muyaun says “Alright. So, does this mean that I have earned the reward you mentioned?”

  “So far, so good. I will tell you what it is, but it won’t take effect for a while. In the new government, I plan to make you the minister of intelligence. Your authority level will be just below my wives. You will be in charge of all intelligence operations, both foreign and domestic.”

  Muyaun says “That sounds great! Does this mean that I have earned your trust?”

  “Some. I don’t trust you fully and I probably never will.”

  Muyaun says “That’s fine. I just don’t want you to despise me anymore.”

  “Speaking of that, how are things with Asuna?”
