I place the last one four miles from the city because I plan to build a bigger obelisk inside the city. It will be similar to the one I built in the capital, but without the formation enchantments. With the extra room, I am pretty sure I can extend the range to cover the extra gap.

  If not, then I will just have to go back and place an obelisk to make up for any gap. After placing the last obelisk, I enter the city and head straight to the castle. I have been gone a lot longer than I said I would and I don’t know if Lin and Mercy are going to be mad.

  However, when I enter the castle I find it completely empty and Jarvis confirms that everyone left. He says that it was hours ago, but with the time dilation that doesn’t mean much. Next I head over to the inn, but Sarah isn’t there and no one knows where she went, so I contact Lin.

  “Lin, where are you? Did you take everyone with you?”

  Lin says “Yes, I brought everyone to the southern empire for a little shopping.”

  “Including the kids? Are they in human form or did you at least warn the emperor first?”

  Lin says “They are in human form. Bella and Mercy are helping me keep an eye on them and we also have imperial guardsmen shadowing us. Nothing is going to happen to any of them.”

  “Alright. Well, stay safe and have fun! I will keep working, let me know when you get back.”

  Lin says “Okay, will do!”

  I end the connection and move to the square in front of the palace, it is close to being the center of the city. Using my mana, I raise a new obelisk from the stone in the center of the square. It is about twice the size of the normal obelisks, but it is still just plain stone.

  I will let Sarah decide if she wants to decorate it or just leave it as it is since this will be her city. However, I leave a small hollow in the base of the obelisk where I plan to put a core. It won’t be as fancy or as advanced as the core in the capital, just enough to act as the center of enchantments.

  The trade city is important enough that I plan to enchant it once the construction is complete. I will also make some golems like those in the capital to keep it maintained and protected. Although, with the military base so close, if the golems are ever needed for defense then things are already horrible.

  Still, I would rather have them and never need them, than not have them and need them. As soon as I think that, I can’t help but think about AVP since that quote is used in the movie. Maybe later I will have a horror movie night with the girls and the kids, that could be fun.

  I can still remember every detail of the Alien and AVP movies, well at least the good ones. That should be enough for a movie night and it will be interesting to see how everyone reacts. I can’t remember if I added xenomorphs to the training room or not, if I didn’t, I will have to.

  While I am thinking about it, I should add a training room or two at the military base. I also need to extend the system to cover the base as well, it will help Leonarr track things. Hm, maybe I can add a messaging function to the system that would allow him to issue orders through it.

  Otherwise, I will have to keep making medallions so that all of his officers can have one. The range would be limited to the system, but it would still be more effective than the medallions. After all, if the officer with the medallion dies, communication is completely cut.

  I should probably wait until the system covers more area, but I will keep it in mind for later. I can make it like a messenger system so that different people can have private conversations. That would make it easier for the members of the government to keep in touch with each other.

  The more I think about it, the better the idea sounds and I start planning out how to do it. I quickly use Divided Mind, half enchants the obelisk while the other half is working out how to modify the system. Luckily, I only have to modify the system at the core rather than at all of the nodes.

  Although, if I am going to keep thinking up new things to add to it, I might need to expand its capacity. I hope that there isn’t that much else that can be added, but knowing me I will come up with something. So, despite thinking I had prepared properly, I add expanding the capacity to my to-do list.

  I finally finish enchanting the obelisk and as soon as I do the system coverage spreads. It covers the city and a couple of miles around it, a bit better than I was hoping for. In fact, I totally could have left out the last obelisk I placed, but I decide not to go back for it.

  I also realize that if I just make another obelisk like this one at the military base I won’t need any of the smaller obelisks. It makes me wonder if making a bunch of smaller obelisks was the right move. The bigger ones take more time to make, so in the end it is probably not any more efficient.

  Although, I am going to need a way to track what is covered and any gaps that may occur. That is probably something else that I should add to the system to make things easier on myself. That’s already the second thing I need to add to the system, I didn’t plan as well as I thought.

  I imagine that once there are other people using the system that I will find a lot more things that I missed. However, I will worry about that when the time comes, I have enough to do right now. With the obelisk done I head back to my workshop in the castle to craft an item.

  I go through my materials until I find a nice big gem and then grab some precious metals. I start by reshaping the gem using mana until it is a flat disc and then mold the metals around it. As I am molding the metals, I also blend them together to make them into an alloy.

  Once the fitting is in place around the gem, I use the rest of the metal alloy to make the chain. After that is done, I start working on the carvings and ornamentation for the necklace. Unlike the obelisk, I want to make sure that this is pretty and a symbol of prestige.

  However, I don’t want it to be gaudy because I doubt that Sarah would like that. This necklace is going to be the mark of her rank as governor and will grant her access to the system. I am making it now so that I can have her start testing the system’s functions for me.
