I also plan to use her to test the permissions for the governor rank and make sure I haven’t missed anything. The data she will be able to access will still be limited due to the short time the system has been active. Hopefully, that won’t be too big a problem when it comes to testing the functions.
One person isn’t going to be enough, so as soon as I finish Sarah’s necklace I start on Stillwater’s. His, I make a bit more bulky and masculine looking, but I make it at the same quality. The only other difference between them will be the permissions level since he is my prime minister.
Stillwater is going to have permissions just below the level of my queens, all three of them. Even though I still haven’t said anything to Mercy, I am going to be prepared for things to go that way. Like Bella said, I should marry her for the other’s sake even if I don’t love her.
She is beautiful and I have no doubt that I will enjoy being with her, but I will feel like I am using her. I never wanted to be the type who uses women, I was raised to respect women, but I might not have a choice. I will just have to treat her as well as I can and keep my feelings buried in my heart.
Who knows, maybe I will fall in love with her and I won’t have to worry about all of this. My only worry will be how to keep three women happy, an almost impossible task. I will just have to do my best and hope they are willing to forgive my shortcomings.
Lin and Myria have already stated that they understand my situation and are willing to bear with it. I would assume that they have told Mercy about all of that, but I will have to make sure. If Mercy is also willing to, then this might just work out with the four of us.
Once I finish crafting Stillwater’s necklace, I move on to enchanting both necklaces. The only difference between them will be the permissions level, the rest of the enchantments are the same. Other than access to the system, I fill the rest with useful and defensive enchantments.
Once both necklaces are enchanted and the permissions are set, I leave the castle and go looking for Sarah. Luckily, she has returned to the inn by the time I get there, so I hand over the necklace. Then I explain to her all of the functions and how to use them so that she can test them out.
“So, what do you think?”
Sarah says “It’s just like one of those city-builder games, isn’t it?”
“Yeah, at least that is what I was going for. Those games are about all I know about running a city, so it was the best I could do.”
Sarah says “It looks like it will help, but it is probably going to be hard for the natives to understand it.”
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
“I will be having Stillwater test it as well. If he has problems, then I will have to come up with something. I will probably write a guide or something. Maybe create a tutorial for new users?”
Sarah says “That could work. I would vote for a tutorial, I always learned better when I could see what I was supposed to do.”
“I will keep that in mind. I will see how Stillwater does.”
Sarah says “Alright, I will play with this and tell you what I find.”
I say my goodbyes to Sarah, I even refuse to eat, and gate to the capital to look for Stillwater. When I find him, I hand him his necklace and explain everything again. Despite expectations, Stillwater doesn’t seem to have any issues learning how to use it.
That is surprising, especially since he has more to learn due to his higher permissions. Sarah can only see detailed information about her city, but Stillwater can see everything. Although, with how limited the system currently is that isn’t saying all that much.
Stillwater says “This is going to make managing the empire much easier!”
“Kingdom, not empire! We are not even going to mention that word right now.”
Stillwater says “That isn’t wise. We both know that is how things are going to end up, so it is better to prepare for it. Otherwise, it will just make more work for us later when it happens.”
“What makes you so sure that we are going to end up being an empire?”
Stillwater says “The strength of our army and your disposition. The more powerful you get, the more jealousy you will face and the more stupidity you will have to deal with. We both know how you react to stupidity. Even if you try to avoid it, you will end up ruling this peninsula. My only question is, will you stop there?”
“Of course I will! I don’t even want to rule the peninsula!”
Stillwater says “If you say so. My point still stands, we should start making preparations for becoming an empire.”
“Did someone tell you about Mercy?”
Stillwater says “Who?!”
“Queen Amercy, ruler of the kingdom of Revalia.”
Stillwater says “Um, no. No one has said anything about her. Why?”
“Chances are that she is going to become my third wife and I will become the ruler of Revalia as well.”
Stillwater says “You are taking a third wife? Are you insane?! I thought you weren’t going to take any more wives?!”
“I wasn’t planning to, but Lin has mostly convinced me. It isn’t set in stone yet, but it looks likely.”
Stillwater says “That is going to cause a problem.”
“What problem?”
Stillwater says “My people were willing to accept you not taking an elven wife when you weren’t going to have more than two. Now, once word spreads there are going to be a lot of elves who feel that you do not care about our people as much as you do others.”
“That’s not true!”
Stillwater says “I know that, but we are talking about the rest of the elves. They don’t know you personally. They only have what they hear to go on.”
“So you're telling me that if I marry Mercy I also have to marry an elf?!”
Stillwater says “Of course not! It is not my place to tell you what to do. I am just saying that if you don’t, there are likely going to be problems. Especially since Mercy would be your second human wife, it will make it look like you prefer humans to other races.”
“That has nothing to do with it!”
Stillwater says “I know that, but we are talking about how people will perceive things. To be honest, it would probably help you when dealing with other human kingdoms, but the elves won’t like it. I haven’t asked anyone, but I would assume that some among the beastmen would think the same.”
