TBE Chapter 49

  TBE Chapter 49

Ezekiel thought of the fact that the good thing about traveling on a road with hardly any traffic and with a well-behaved donkey who just plodded on amiably was the three of them could concentrate on their business without minding Prince Charming.

As usual, before the start of every journey, Ezekiel made sure to arrange the spells that he might use during the day in all of his spell slots but to be honest, the fact that he could switch out the spells quickly meant that it wasn’t that important to arrange the spells in the slot. That meant that once he had all the gold coins, it would be best if he purchased all the spells available.

He was just thankful that he didn’t need different components to cast his spells like spell ingredients, verbal chanting, or gestures. That would have been so awkward especially since he was alone. If he had a tank, like a frontline warrior who could meet the enemies, then it would not be a problem but thinking of the need to chant or make gestures while a boar was running towards Ezekiel made him shiver.

The boys were still playing with the wooden blocks awakened by the Tiny Servant spell and when they got tired of them, they would switch to playing with their other toys. The slow movement of the cart did not hinder the three brothers from doing whatever they wanted during their travel.

After reviewing his spells and possible spell combinations for any situations again, Ezekiel read the book that he had gotten from his old tutor and then after that, he started practicing writing the local language. He was a bit proud of himself for learning the language quickly and he attributed it to the agile young mind of his body and the fact that they had been eating healthy food ever since he transmigrated to this world. Ezekiel also thought that being a wizard also contributed greatly to the speed at which learned the language.

Ezekiel was sure that in not even a week, he would become an expert reader and writer of the common language. By then he would start teaching his siblings since he was sure that they would still be on the road.

When afternoon arrived, they stopped briefly to eat. Ezekiel also fed and watered Prince Charming and allowed the donkey to rest below the trees. He allowed Robert and Luke to run around since Yuki Onna was ever vigilant of the surrounding area and would notify him immediately if something or someone arrived.

After lunch, they moved on and while they were doing so Robert asked Ezekiel the questions that he thought the boy would ask earlier.

“Why are there no other people on the road?”

“To be honest with you, I’m not sure. I was expecting us to meet some travelers but maybe it’s the time of the year when there were no travelers on this road. I’m just not sure.”

If Ezekiel wanted to be honest with himself, the lack of travelers on this specific road was making him a bit nervous. His imagination was filled with all sorts of things like maybe they were going to a place that was enveloped by a deadly pandemic or a place that was torn due to war. They did see some scattered farmhouses and a couple of villages already and thinking of that, he calmed down a bit.

The reason why it felt that the road was so empty was because they had been avoiding people and that’s what he told Robert and the boy just accepted it and both of his brothers just continued playing.

The lack of communication with other people was making Ezekiel truly wary of him and his brothers developing some sort of psychosis so he decided that whatever the risk may be, he and his brother would stop and mingle with villagers. That would teach him how to trade and would allow his brothers to play with other villager kids.

At around five in the afternoon, the three siblings stopped to camp at a clearing near the road and this time, Ezekiel didn’t bother to choose a place where the foliage would hide the towers and then just cast the Galder’s Tower spell until there were four small houses in that clearing.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

He again told the boys that they could only play inside any of the houses and the kids busied themselves playing. Ezekiel made sure that the donkey was watered, fed, and cleaned then he went to the kitchen to begin learning how to butcher the boar.

Ezekiel spent a whopping three hours butchering the boar but at least he now had the working knowledge of how to butcher animals. He knew that it would probably take more than just a couple of pheasants and a single boar before he could say that he was a master so he planned to do it again after he hunted more pheasants and boars.

It took him so long that Robert and Luke went to the dining room to watch him since were already hungry. Ezekiel stored all the meat then he cleaned the room using his Prestidigitation spell. After that, he served dinner for the three of them.

“I’m sorry that it took a while for me to finish butchering the boar. As an apology, do you want to eat cake? We still have some of Luke’s birthday cake!” He asked his brothers and as expected, there was always more room in the stomach for desserts.

After that satisfying repast, the three brothers went to the washroom to clean themselves and their clothes then they went to the bedroom to rest. Of course, Ezekiel didn’t forget to cast all the defensive spells that he needed to cast to make sure that they were secure.

The next day they departed the campsite without encountering any issues. They left after Ezekiel made sure that there were no traces of any of the spells that he cast and he also made sure that the mage armor spell was cast on the three of them as well as Prince Charming. He also made sure that Prince Charming was fed, watered, and clean. Even though he had the 3rd level spell Healing Elixir, he did not want any one of them to get sick and that included Prince Charming.

He also knew that he had been lapsed in making sure that their teeth were clean using the toothbrush that he bought before from the system shopping site so he made sure to cast the Prestidigitation spell on their faces and mouths. Ezekiel did check Robert and Luke’s mouths and their teeth were very white and there were no signs of cavities. He then wondered if the Healing Elixir spell also made sure that their teeth were healthy.

While they were traveling, since Ezekiel decided to mingle with the villages that they would pass through, he knew that due to their apparent wealth which was the donkey and the things on their cart, and how clean they all looked and how good their clothes were, some might be tempted to accost them so he decided that some sort of deterrent was necessary.

The only obvious thing that he could think of was a crossbow so he decided to shop for one on his system shopping site. He chose the one that looked like it was made of wood. The good thing about the crossbow that he chose was there was a wheel crank that a small person like him could use to load the crossbow. It also included a full quiver of bolts and all of it only cost him five silver coins. Now his total silver coins were 7 Gold 9 Silver and 80 plus Copper Coins.

Ezekiel decided to practice the crossbow during lunch so when it arrived, They parked in a clearing to eat lunch and after that, he practiced the crossbow. The boys clamored to use the crossbow as well but unfortunately for both kids, it was too heavy for them to carry and aim.

One thing Ezekiel could say about his brothers was they were good cheerleaders. Whenever he hit the tree that he was using as his target, which was only ten percent of the time, the boys cheered him loudly and during the misses, which was almost all the time, they kept telling him that he would get it next shot which made him smile.

Because of Yuki Onna, even though most of his shots were misses, all the bolts were retrieved from the forest. Since there were only ten of them, Ezekiel didn’t want to miss one. Robert and Luke looked really envious of the crossbow so he spent six copper coins to purchase a couple of toy crossbows for each of them even though they already had a toy bow and arrow. When he retrieved the crossbow, Ezekiel was impressed at how well-made the toy crossbows were but he was confused why the bolts didn’t have a plunger.

When he tested one of the toy crossbows, it was light enough that even Luke could easily hold and aim it and it was easy to crank and load but when he shot the bolt to the target tree, he was horrified to see the bolt entered the trunk deeply.

“These are not toys! There are actual crossbows!” Ezekiel exclaimed, which managed to get the attention of the boys.

“Wow! You conjure us crossbows?!” Robert shouted.

“I’m not sure if I can give these to you. I thought they were toys but they were actual weapons!”

“We’ll take good care of it!”

“Fine but you can’t play with them. You can only practice or hold them when I’m looking at you both.”

After that, the three of them began practicing shooting their crossbows but after an hour, the three of them got tired so they rested and ate some of the food that Ezekiel retrieved from his 4th tab space.
