TBE Chapter 62
Ezekiel was walking towards the village market to sell the wooden arts and crafts that he purchased from his system shopping site when he thought about the haunted mansion. He was a bit disappointed that the adventure was so short since when he killed the four zombies in the dining and kitchen area, he thought that they might spend the whole day in the mansion killing off monsters and him leveling up.
The moment Ezekiel and his siblings returned to the main hall to go to the other parts of the mansion his instinct warned him that something very dangerous awakened and that their lives were in danger. He had no choice then but to tuck his tail between his legs and run outside with his brothers in tow.
He imagined that maybe it was some sort of dimensional monster or a powerful lich and Ezekiel might have been able to contend with it or them if his level was higher but to be safe, he decided on a cowardly course. He also imagined that that mansion was very dangerous and there may come a time when the dangerous being in it would come outside and kill off the citizens of the village. Of course, all of those were just his imagination brought on by reading a lot of fantasy novels and mangas.
For a moment, Ezekiel felt an urge to warn the villagers but then he remembered that the village had been living with that mansion nearby for decades and the only victims who suffered were the ones who went inside it. He could reason with them that when he went inside, he encountered powerful monsters and that his magic was warning him that there were deadly beings inside but then in exchange, he would have to show off his power and they might treat him and his brothers as monsters as well. If he hid his power, he knew that the villagers wouldn’t believe a young kid like him.
When he arrived at the market, it was already very busy so he immediately set up his stall in the place where he set it up before and the moment he was done, he was approached by a lot of people. Apparently, word of mouth had spread and those who purchased items yesterday showed off the items to their friends and neighbors.
The good thing about his business was he didn’t haggle and told his customers that the price of his items that was indicated in the paper stuck near it would not change. If they didn’t like the price, Ezekiel kept reiterating that they didn’t have to purchase them.
His items were so unique and pretty that the village madams wanted one to show off to their friends and neighbors so his items were flying off his makeshift shelves.
By the time lunch arrived, Ezekiel sold off half of his items to the astonishment of the merchants beside him but everyone knew including the other merchants that the customers in the village were limited and once his items saturated the village, no one would purchase from him anymore. Everyone also knew that Ezekiel didn’t care since they were travelers and would leave probably the next day or the day after tomorrow.
Ezekiel closed his stall by covering it with a tarpaulin he wasn’t the only one doing that since it was time for lunch. He called Yuki Onna and asked it to deliver the boys' lunch consisting of around four lunchboxes so they could share them with their friends. Then he ate his lunch.
While eating, Ezekiel checked his brothers through his Familiar’s eyes to see what they were doing. The boys were eating the bento boxes that he asked Yuki Onna to bring to them and Robert and Luke were sharing the food with their friends. The problem was that there were too many children there that they could only eat a little from the two extra bento boxes that he added on top of the boys' lunch but all of the children were enjoying the food.
After lunch, Ezekiel reopened his stall and there was a brief expected lull since most of the customers were probably in their homes eating lunch or resting. At around 2 in the afternoon, customers arrived in drove to the market, and at around 4 in the afternoon, all of his items were gone.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
Ezekiel cleaned up his stall and then asked Yuki Onna to bring the boys 2 loaves of chocolate bread and 2 liters of cold water that he spelled to taste like strawberry juice and he only spent 4 coppers on those snacks.
He went back to the inn and headed directly to his room after storing his cart and Prince Charming in the inn’s stable. He gave the stableman 3 copper coins to feed and water Prince Charming and to make sure that the donkey was comfortable.
He briefly checked his brothers through Yuki Onna’s eyes and saw that they were busy playing with the other villagers so he returned his attention to his earnings. Ezekiel’s current woodcraft funds were now 2 gold and 80 silver coins since he sold off all the woodcraft items without haggling. Ezekiel spent 20 silver coins to purchase a new inventory of items that he would sell but he would probably just keep them inside the chest in the cart since he decided that they would be leaving this village the next day.
Ezekiel then turned his attention to the coins that he looted from the dead people who entered the haunted mansion. He didn’t know how many people were in that pile but the total amount of coins was a whopping 2 Gold, 33 Silver, and 12 Copper coins. He was happy to note that his current finances separate from the woodcraft fund were now 11 Gold, 64 Silver, and 12 Copper Coins. He imagined that they could have received more coins and possibly treasure if they managed to complete the haunted mansion but his fear overcame his greed immediately.
For a moment, Ezekiel felt ashamed. He was supposed to be a powerful transmigrator with access to an overpowered system and he was supposed to be battling monsters left and right courageously. The only defense that he could present was it was different when you were actually there. There’s a primal fear that your existence would cease if you encounter an enemy that has the power to kill you off and since it was his second chance, Ezekiel didn’t want to end it immediately in a foolhardy belief that he was invincible just because he felt that he was the main protagonist of this world due to him being a transmigrator.
There was truly no need to rush. His body’s age was young and it would benefit him greatly to allow himself to grow up before embarking on dangerous missions. Besides, if he couldn’t level up due to the quality of his enemies which were just forest animals, he would fill his experience bar using quantity.
Ezekiel noticed that the sun was setting so he asked Yuki Onna to bring Robert and Luke back to the inn. After a while, the two boys entered the room and they all went to the inn’s bathroom located in the basement and took a bath then they immediately returned to their room.
He planned to serve the food that he prepared to himself and his brothers since the inn’s food was atrocious.
“Guys, we will be leaving the village tomorrow,” Ezekiel told his brothers while they were eating.
“Why? I thought we would stay one more day?” Robert asked.
“The villagers already purchased a lot of items from me and they probably wouldn’t buy anything from me anymore. I’m also worried about that haunted mansion. Since we killed four monsters inside, we may have awakened a terrible monster there and there’s a very little chance that it might attack the village.”
“Shouldn’t we warn the villagers?”
“They wouldn’t believe us since we’re just kids in their eyes. You don’t have to worry though since the village had been living beside that house for many years and the only victims were the ones who entered it so your friends should be safe,” Ezekiel comforted his brothers but both boys still looked worried and he was a bit sorry that he told them his supposition about the haunted mansion to them.
Robert then asked Ezekiel if he could talk to his friends before they left the village and he agreed. He had an inkling that his brother would try to warn their friends and he would allow that freedom to him.
They woke up early the next day but Robert insisted that they wait until the sun was way up in the sky before they leave so he could talk to his friends. Ezekiel agreed but told Robert that they would wait near the exit of the village so they could leave the moment he finished warning his friends.
At around 9 in the morning, the three brothers went downstairs and Ezekiel informed the innkeeper that they would be leaving. They headed directly to the stable and retrieved their cart and Prince Charming then headed to the village exit.
While they were moving, Ezekiel saw that children from the village were already gathered so Robert and Luke ran to them. He couldn’t hear what his brothers were saying to them but was surprised when Robert and Luke gave all of their toys away to them.
Ezekiel understood since they were his brothers’ first playmates and since they earned a lot of coins from the village, he would just buy them new ones.
