Arc End: The Glimmer of Serenity before the Storm

For Deliah's wedding, I decided not to be the Bride's Maid, since I felt like I didn't deserve to be one. I've gone missing for most of her life after all, we weren't that close to begin with.

Instead, a friend of hers is the Bride's Maid. She is surprisingly popur for someone with a weak constitution and doesn't go out all that much.

While I am here outside of the house, greeting everyone and getting their congratutory gift. Though they must be quite intimidated by how beautiful this pce was decorated.

And they can smell the food being cooked in the back of the house. I had to seal off the majority of the yard though, poison pnts and all of that. Even if Deliah has a greenhouse, she isn't very keen on moving the vines into it.

Oh, the food, aside from the traditional dishes, Deliah opted for some more expensive things like lobsters, and a whole lot of cheese, plus hundreds of expensive wines. I think I boosted the whole economy alone with my spending.

This wedding may be a bit more extravagant than anything she expected. I mean, she probably didn't expect me to lend her so much money.

Oh, here she is... an old woman with long white hair, not Greek white hair but white white hair, she is an old woman with brown, almost amber, eyes. With a walking cane, she approached me with a kind smile. From how sharp she looks, seems like she's pretty cunning... there is a certain air to her.

Oh, and there is a bck guy in formal attire, who must be her bodyguard.

"Bonjour, Mademoiselle.", I greeted her with a smile.

"Oh my... to think someone so you would be so formal.", she was surprised, speaking in French of course.

So I started to speak in French too, "You must be Florence Silvi, it is nice to meet you."

She widens her eyes, "Oh, your French is very fluent. Tell me, what is your name?"

Well, I can speak every nguage on Earth.

"I am Charlotte Silvi.", I smiled, "Your grandniece."

"Right, there was another one.", she ughed it off, "I almost forgot..."

She took out an envelope from her purse and gave it to me.

"It's nice meeting you, but I need to rest these old bones.", she smiled at me, a kind and gentle one, "I can see your father in you, Charlotte. I hope you aren't as quiet or apathetic as your father."

"I'm not a quiet person, but I think I am empathically challenged.", I spoke the truth.

"Hmph, let's see who will worm his way into your life.", she teased and walked inside.

Florence Silvi was... interesting. Her eyes were observing me carefully, and her words were chosen with purpose. Everything was calcuted...

Oh... she's like me, a sociopath.

After greeting some more guests, a total of ten people since they are waiting for the bride and groom to get back from the local temple. Well, I entered after leaving the protection to Enna, who is now perching on the roof.

The inside was made more spacious, as the walls themselves are on hinges, easily making this pce bigger. Enough to set up for fifteen tables.

Well, it is time for a show~

"Hello everyone.", I cpped my hands, "The two stars of the show will come in shortly, roughly about ten minutes. You can enjoy the snacks on the tables while waiting."

Then I took out a piece of paper from my blouse. Well, I dress like a gentleman as I find it fits me more, a white blouse and pants, plus a blue shirt underneath, of course.

With all of that done, I headed to the yard, where Mitsuki was watching the hired chefs cook the food.

"How are preparations?", I asked Mitsuki.

"Going great! Nothing went wrong yet, so I think it's fine for you to rex.", she smiled at me.

"I am rexed. So wanna get some food for ourselves?", I pointed over to the bunch of live lobsters.

"But they are for the guests!"

"I ordered twice the amount needed. Plus, most of the food is readied with a few extras.", I went ahead and cpped my hands, "Alright everyone, you all can rest now, I think you guys have cooked enough for the guests."

"So now prepare for yourselves and the staff. We are going to have a feast of our own."

They all cheered up. Since we have been preparing for the entire morning, even before sunrise. They are all tired and would colpse if not for the refresher I got from Prometheus.

Turns out, Ouroboros Omniscia has something to amplify Relics. It really has almost anything, and I am still discovering its function. Oh, and I can py DOOM on it.

Grabbing a slice of spinach pie, I began to eat it. We have more than enough to serve the guests...

Plus this pile of feta cheese... I ordered way too much cheese.

  =0=0=

"Hurry everyone, bring in the food!", Mitsuki shouted as she brought two trays of food with her.

Waiters ran into the house, delivering the food to the table. The bride and groom are walking around, chatting with the guests.

Meanwhile, I am here in the back using Euphoria to keep everyone coordinated. The house isn't big enough for thirty people, not to mention the dozen waiters, so everything needs to be perfect. I won't agree to anything but the absolute best.

On my ptop, I kept switching channels and cameras I installed, delivering commands, and trying to make everything run as smoothly as possible.

  "You, slow down."

  "You, pick up the pace."

"You, bring a napkin to table six."

"Table two requires a new spoon."

"Watch out for the bottle between table ten and table eleven."

  ...

For an hour straight, I was doing my absolute best. I don't think I've put in this much effort for something unreted to me.

But I find this fun, giving me a chance to get away from the horrors of the universe, beings that could eradicate humanity easily, and... my duty to save humanity.

Against the endless tide of beasts, against the will of nature, against the fragment of the universe...

As I cannot escape from facing them, the strings of fate and destiny wrapped around me pull me closer to conflicts with the state of the world at hand.

I smiled, putting down the headphones as everyone was getting outside for the next activity, which Athen would handle.

After the wedding was finished, Deliah approached me as I sent off the staff who made everything possible.

"Thank you so much for today, Charlotte.", she smiled, grabbing my hands. Even with her sickly body, she acts out her best.

"It was nothing, I told you before, right? Just swipe and forget.", I should have sungsses on for this.

"It was the best day of my life, it isn't nothing for me. But I'm kind of disappointed..."

What? This bitch is telling me I did something wrong? Me?

"You didn't interact with anyone, I hoped that you would've said hi to some of my friends and their family.", she looked up at me since I am taller now, "I would love for my friends to know who you are, my dear sister."

I rolled my eyes, "Managing a wedding is hard, I don't think I had time to deal with people..."

"I understand that you are a natural loner, Charlotte.", she sighed.

  Was that an insult?

"But you have to talk to get to know people.", then she poked at my cheek, "Seem like a tall order for you, right?"

  Oh ho... game on, Deliah.

"Why don't you take off your mask once in a while then?", I retorted.

Her smile faded and her eyes became dull in an instant. She blinked, "This is my livelihood, I can't possibly do that."

"Sure, just don't tell me to make small talk. The only two things I'm good at are manipute and gaslight."

Then Deliah looked to my side, where Enna was standing the whole time.

"Are you okay with that?", Deliah asked, pointing at me.

"I've resigned my fate.", Enna stated, nodding to herself.

"That's pretty sad.", she commented, moving back to me, "So, what will you do now?"

"I would like to stay for a few more days...", I spoke the truth, "But I have business elsewhere. I will soon be going to Saudi Arabia for some personal business."

"What will you be doing there?", Deliah asked in curiosity.

"You haven't told me either.", Enna followed.

Should I tell them that I'll risk my life again for something petty? No, stabbing Romulus in the chest is my right alone.

"It's something I must do myself, and it's kinda complicated.", I look at my left hand, still wearing the sleeve and now with a blue glove, "But I will say it's a job."

"You are...", Deliah narrows her eyes.

Now what will be a convenient lie? Ah...

"Sandworm hunting, I am trying to get a Beast Hunter license, you see.", I smiled, "I already got a recommendation."

Deliah was surprised since being a Hunter means that I am strong enough to fight and kill Beasts - like Drakes and Wyverns - incredibly dangerous. Though I aim higher than that, a Leviathan Hunter, specialized in subjugating monsters of the sea.

"My teacher told me that the quickest way to be a Hunter is to kill a Beast in front of a crowd, get involved in the government, and send over to the headquarters of the Hunter Association in France to get a quick license."

"You could kill a Beast here and be done with it, right?", Deliah wondered.

"I don't want to be a poacher, yet. All Beasts in Greece are endangered species.", I still don't get why humanity must protect things that are bound to go extinct.

Why feel guilty about ending a species now? Even if I am the embodiment of humanity, I can't understand this anomaly. The only creatures worth keeping around are the useful ones... which proved to be an effective strategy.

As we talked, that old woman approached us with her bodyguard. Deliah quickly bowed while I just nodded. My grandaunt, Florence Silvi.

"Rex, Deliah. I am not here for fancy greetings.", she assured her, then she turned to me, "Forgive me for eavesdropping on your conversation, but I heard that you are looking forward to becoming a Beast Hunter."

I nodded, "That is the case, yes."

A mischievous smile dawned upon her, "Now tell me, what kind of Beast had you hunted before?"

  What kind of beast, huh...

"A giant spider with armor so tough it can block bullets and fast enough to disappear in a blink.", I stated.

"Do you have any way to confirm it?", she asked again.

"It should remain in Ataraxia's records, as for eye witness... Kortigern the White Dragon of Saxon."

"Mhmm, this should be enough. Although I must confirm with the Academy, I can get you a license through some... favors.", she smiled.

What is she going on about? Reverie?

Ah yes~! You call us less and less, Charlotte~ but rest assured that we will never abandon you~! Now, Florence Silvi, the former Prime Minister of France, is regarded as the Steel Witch, and often bickers with The Iron Lady of Britain, Margaret Thatcher~! Also! She used to be the 35th Head of the European Hunter Association!

I see... Why is your speech gray?

I don't know what you are talking about~

  Huh, oh well.

I smiled. Once again I realized my greatest source of power in society, nepotism.

"Thank you very much, Mademoiselle.", I smiled and offered a courtly bow. Which surprised Enna, she was gawking so much her eyes might as well fall out of her sockets.

I am not one to bow to other people after all, but it is fun to mask myself. After all, I have the best teacher here with me. I look at Deliah who let out a soft ughter.

"You don't need to be so formal with me, Charlotte. We are all family here.", she let out a chuckle.

  "Of course, grandaunt.", I smiled.

"Now, where is that niece of mine?", she then looks around with a haughty smile, "Deliah, where are you?"

  Deliah?

To answer me, Deliah leaned in next to me, "Aunty's name is Deliah, like me. Her full name is Deliah Spartois, she took our grandma's surname."

"Ah, I see.", I nodded to myself.

"If you are trying to find Aunty, she's talking to her boyfriend.", Deliah said in a teasing tone.

"Who is her boyfriend?", I asked.

"The Secretary of the museum, Neoth Arcadia.", Deliah answered.

You know, I suddenly got an urge to cp my hands and facepalm at the same time. Athen managed to date a fucking god...

"I'll go for a smoke break.", and I left.

Climbing up the wall of the house, I rested on the rooftop. Today was exhausting, pushing Survive to the absolute limit had me tired out, mentally of course.

Taking out a cigarette, I began to inhale the fvor... as sweet as ever.

Family huh... I never thought I would care for someone so much without a reward in return.

  Then I realized something...

"So this is unconditional love... what a strange thing.", and I ughed it off.

Leaning back on the rooftop, I stare at the waxing moon, almost full... they say that moonlight is an extension of the sun... their gaze, is Shemiss Aluqdim's... I feel a connection to them.

...tely, my eyes have taken in interesting... properties, Mitsuki said that my gaze is becoming more and more uncomfortable to bear, as if I am always silently, but at the same time loudly, judging her every move. Which I admit, I am.

I wonder... if something is happening to me outside of my knowledge, like unknowingly receiving a blessing from The Pale Court.

Well... let's put those thoughts away for now.

I am at a wedding, after all, a party that I ought to enjoy to the fullest...

  As after this...

I will face against Romulus, and take back that missing piece of Akasha.

  "And I will protect humanity..."

Somewhere in the Arabian Desert, a golden Roman Temple sat unmovingly. The Saudi Arabia government tried to investigate it, but for some reason as soon as they tried to enter, they came back out at the entrance after some time.

From the perspective of the ones that entered, they walked through a straight tunnel for a bit then exited. But it cannot be said for the people outside.

From multiple tests, the time they went in and exited the entrance is 4 hours and 21 minutes, right on the dots.

Although this number may not mean anything to most people, historians saw it very differently. 4 hours 21 minutes, it was a date, April 21st, the birthday of Rome...

And inside the temple, through a confusing byrinth id with countless obstacles and traps. In the deepest floor hundreds of meters underground.

Sitting on a golden throne is an androgynous man with bronze hair and golden eyes, in a regal purple toga bearing intricate patterns of gold, is the Progenitor of the greatest empire in human history.

The King of Emperors, Romulus, smiled as he sensed that girl... twirling a gss of red wine in his hands.

"It seems like she will be heading here soon... and we shall have our battle.", and he drinks it.

A blue screen popped up in front of Romulus, he smiled and swiped it away. And his eyes look towards the entire room, a golden throne room with great marble pilrs supporting it.

His power, his fragment of Akasha, has expanded greatly more than it already is. As he is the beginning of modern civilization, as long as what he built upon still stands, he is invincible...

The power of Domination is humanity's desire to dominate and control. Combined with the Contract of an Eldritch God of Order and Creation... everything built by humanity is his to use.

But he will never y his hands on his people - humanity, as that is what it means to be a Ruler.

"To you, who call yourself the Silver Princess of Humanity. I shall bring you down..."

He raised his gss, blooming a radiant smile on his face.

  "And I will protect Humanity."
