Chapter 36- Brent Moore and Katie Benson -34 and 38 years old

“Where have you been?” Katie snarled, refusing to make eye contact with the man she called her fiancé. The elevator door sounded and the couple both took a step inside it. Brent waited for a second to let the ginger haired lady inside. Katie stood across from him, arms folded, refusing to look in his direction. Her brooding expression could give insight only to the poisonous thoughts that ran in her head.

“I spent the night at Jeff’s.” He lied, taking his index finger and brushing his bangs from his eyes. Brent leaned against the wall, his head drooped against the side. A silence fell between the two as the elevator doors closed. Brent’s head filled with sorrow and regret. A single tear streamed down Brent’s cheek, which he wiped off on the fabric of the uniform his friend lent him. The outfit was tight against his frame, making movement uncomfortable for him.

“What the hell are you wearing?” Katie asked, breaking the silence that had lasted for most of the elevator ride. The bell sounded and the elevator doors opened slowly. Katie was the first of the two to step out.

“Jeff lent it to me, don’t ask.” Brent replied, taking a deep breath and stepping out of the elevator doorway before it closed.

“You look ridiculous.” Katie said, stopping and shooting a glance back at him. “The whole thing looks a little tight. How are you even walking in that?”

“It’s very restrictive.” Brent said, opening the door to Dr. Love’s office for Katie. “It’s touching me in places you haven’t for years. I’m afraid if I bend over it won’t survive.”

“Riiiight.” Katie replied, taking a seat two chairs apart from him. ”And you got that from Jeff? Why didn’t you go with something . . I don’t know, Bigger?”

“You’ve seen his frame,” Brent replied, his gaze focused on his ginger haired fiancé. ”His clothing now would swallow me whole. Even his muscle shirts would make me look like a five year old that raided his dad’s closet.” Brent heard the softest giggle escape Katie’s lips. He got up from his chair and tried to get Katie’s attention, but she refused to look at him. He made an effort to try to place himself in her field of vision, but Katie dodged it.

“Brent Moore and Katie Benson?” a voice came from the doorway at the other end of the waiting room. ”Dr. Aeryn will see you now.”

Katie instantly recognized the lady as one of the triplets she’d seen from her last visit. Brent on the other hand cast her a strange glance. “Nurse Lacey? How are your sisters doing?” Katie asked as Brent followed behind her and the nurse. Brent seemed rather fascinated by the lady as they walked along the gold colored corridor. “Why do you keep looking at her like that?” she whispered under her breath at Brent

“I’m sorry, okay.” Brent whispered back, tilting his head as he kept his distance and focus behind her. She was by all means a beautiful sight for him to see. Brent couldn’t rip his eyes away. “She’s just really really. . ``Before he could finish the sentence Katie had pelted him in the face with a stray pen that was sitting on the counter of the nurse’s station. “Ow! What was that for?” He asked, rubbing his face where the pen hit.

“That!” she whispered loudly pointing down at Brent’s tight pants. When Brent looked down at his pants, he could see the bump that seemed to be pushing at the seams of his pants. “Could you stop undressing the nurse with your eyes?” a few of the seams seemed to split, opening a hole in the tight form fitting uniform. Brent was struck speechless, taking a deep breath as he settled into his seat. Katie hopped up on the bench rolling her eyes at her fiancé. The nurse had left the couple by themselves for only a few seconds before they heard a knock on the door.

“Knock knock.” Aeryn said, as he slipped through the doorway and closed the door behind him carefully. “How’s my favorite. . ?” Before he could finish the sentence, he caught sight of the young couple. He made himself comfortable on the stool next to a desk with what looked like two bottles of eye drops on it. The sight of the two lovers so close, but so far apart was alarming and a little unexpected. He fished for his next words with caution. “So what’s with the outfit? Did you two?”

If you spot this narrative on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“Nope. I would have made him change before coming here.” Katie replied shifting her gaze over to Dr. Love. ”He spent that night at his friend Jeff’s. By the way, you can come over and get something more appropriate after we’re done here.”

“Thanks,” Brent replied in a defeated voice, though his gaze remained focused on the floor, refusing to make eye contact with either of them. ”So what is it you asked us here to show us?”

“I’m glad you asked.” Aeryn said, forging a half smile and fidgeting with the eye drop bottles on the counter. “You see? I wanted to explain to you two the last part of your treatment.” He held up one of the bottles to show the couple. “Ms. Benson, if you’ll be so kind as to lay down on the bench. Do you two know what these are?”

“Eyedrops, duh.” Katie replied, though her tone sounded more sarcastic which made Aeryn feel a little foolish for asking. “Lemme Guess. . they’re magical eye drops?”

Aeryn refused to play into her sarcasm. “Just lay back, please.” Katie refused to listen to his request and pushed Dr. Love aside. Aeryn took a step back as Katie rose to her feet.

“You’ve already done enough.” She bent down to grab her stuff and Brent leapt to his feet and put himself between her and the door. “You didn’t fix anything between us. You just made it worse.” She paused as she bumped into Brent. “Either get behind me or get out of my way.” She demanded, shoving Brent aside.

Dr. Love observed the surrounding area. He unscrewed the bottle and snapped his fingers, with his gaze centered on the redhead and the long haired blonde. Instantly Katie and Brent were both frozen where they stood. Kronos’s voice rang through his mind at that moment. “If you use these powers for any selfish reasons or to hurt anyone at all, Human or Deity, you will be punished. You will be made to live among “The Lost.” The Lost are beings whose existence has halted and written out of history.” Those were the words from Kronos that rang through Aeryn’s ears. A sinking feeling took him over. Still, what was done was done. He raised his hand and numbers like a clock appeared in a golden glow in front of him. He took his finger carefully and pressed it against the glowing clock, moving it back carefully. The scene rewinded in front of him.

“Magical eye drops?” Came Katie’s sarcastic tone once more. Before she could get up Aeryn held his hand to her forehead and turned the bottle upside down. A drop of glimmering multi-colored solution fell from the container and hit her in the eyes. ”What the Hell. . ?” Her words were halted. Aeryn repeated the action to her other eye and gently lowered her down onto her back.

“What did you just. . “ Brent rose to his feet and walked over to the bench, staring down at his Fiancé, who looked as if she was frozen in time. ”What’d you do to my Fiancé?” Brent shouted angrily looking down at the redhead.

“Calm down, please.” Aeryn replied, gesturing to the angry Brent. ”Nothing is going to happen to her. She’s just Having a vision.” Aeryn took his fingers and placed them over her eyelids. He reached into his lab coat and removed a small napkin from his pocket. He proceeded to carefully dab the solution as it trickled from her eyelids.

“Visions?” He said, looking down at his fiancé's head. Her chest began to rise and fall at that moment. She drew a deep breath and Brent’s expression immediately shifted. “You’re okay?”

“I-I am.” She opened her eyes carefully but didn’t move any other part of her body. Recognizing the feeling from when she’d woken up that morning. “I saw something. . It played in front of me like a movie that I was watching progress. It was a vision of you. Like I was looking through your eyes and hearing your thoughts. .” Katie’s expression was in disbelief.

“That’s what these eye drops do.” He took both bottles and handed them to both Katie and Brent. “I want you to try these over the next day. They will help you see and hear things from the life of the other. You won’t be able to do anything about it, you’ll just watch life from the other’s point of view. You’ll see what they see. Please, just take the time and put them in whenever you feel like you can’t understand. It won’t take time. It will only suspend you in time for the moment. You won’t lose time or become lost.” Aeryn said, opening the office door and letting the couple out. With the couple gone he shut the door and sat back on the bench of the office, drawing a deep Breath. Worry began to wash over Dr. Love. A fear of that spawned a stream of thoughts in his head.
