Chapter 37- Katie Benson- Age 38 Years old

Katie fell back against the driver’s seat of her car. It’d taken a lot to swallow her pride in the doctor’s office, but she’d managed to cool off some. Partially because she’d seen something in that vision that Dr. Love showed her. Maybe it was the sound of Her fiancé's thoughts that reverberated through her mind. Maybe it was the things he saw or the way he perceived things that calmed her still beating heart. After a few minutes of replaying the morning in her head over and over again, she finally started the car and took off down the road.

Though the vision was short lived, it played through her head all the way home. It only lasted what seemed like a minute, but it spoke to a much deeper side of her. When Katie finally pulled into the driveway of the house, she was overcome with a feeling of emptiness. She dreaded the idea of seeing their home so empty. It left a piece of her heart feeling broken. She dropped her purse by the recliner that Brent usually liked to sit in and quickly filled the empty spot with her own self. She drew a deep sigh as she removed the eye drop bottle from her purse and looked it over. This one was a stranger color than the capsule bottle that she could have sworn remembering seeing. The liquid in the clear bottle seemed to crystalize inside the bottle giving off the same rainbow color glow that the capsules did.

The sound of shuffling pulled the redhead from her thoughts and alerted her to the fact that she wasn’t alone. The shuffling sound was coming from their bedroom. She rose from her seat and crept over to the closed doorway, carefully pushing it open. “I Thought you were staying at Jeff’s.” She said instantly recognizing her fiancé. Brent dragged a small suitcase full of clothes along with him.

“I just came by to get a few clothes of my own.” Brent said, folding a pair of his pants and stuffing them into the backpack. ”I didn’t want you to feel uneasy or awkward having me around So I convinced Jeff to drop me off and hide the car while he waited.” Brent continued with a half smile. “These pants are starting to make me feel like I’m walking around with a fir tree tied to my waist.”

“Oh. . ok.: Katie replied feeling a tad uncomfortable as she watched her fiancé zip up the suitcase. She struggled with the words to say a little caught between her emotions. “Look, I.” Before she could finish her fiancé was already out the door. Katie found herself lost in her thoughts once more as she plopped down on the edge of the bed. She took the eye drops and rotated the bottle in her hand. She toppled over on the mattress, her head hitting the pillow instantly. Katie drew a deep breath and shifted onto her back taking the drops and removing the cap. She tipped the bottle toward each eye and let the drops hit her corneas.

“Where am I?” Katie asked, lifting her head up and looking around in a panic.”Why can I hear Brent’s voice? Hello?”

“No need to panic, my dear.” A third voice came that sounded familiar to her. It was Aeryn’s voice that was playing through her head. “I thought I would allow you a different point of view. You see? This is an alternate timeline. One created by both yourself and your fiancé. It was erased from your own and will soon be carried away in the sands of time. As we speak it solidifies and turns to sand. So I can only show you pieces of this timeline.”

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

“Why am I looking at myself?” she asked in curiosity her gaze sinking lower to recognize a younger torso that belonged not to her, but to Brent. “What? What happened to my body?”

“You’re safely tucked away in your bedroom, but you’re seeing this timeline through the eyes of your fiancé. You’re only here as a spectator though. To see yourself through his eyes. The voice you hear is from his thoughts.” Aeryn continued, channeling his thoughts through Katie’s head. “If you want to hear his thoughts though, you must silence your own.”

Katie aimed to talk, but decided against it. She watched carefully as the scene played out. She could taste the ice cream as it passed Brent’s tongue. “I never did understand why he liked that flavor so much.” Katie fell silent once more watching the scene play out. The playful demeanor as the two exchanged jokes. It brought a smile to her face that she tried to push away. Brent always did know how to make her laugh. She even watched in horror as the Police Officer fastened the cuffs around Brent’s wrists. She could feel the sinking feeling in her own heart as it set over Brent’s. She could hear Brent’s thoughts cursing at his luck when the officer slapped the cuffs around Brent’s wrists. Then it happened, she felt the tug of her own hand as it dragged Brent’ into the field of Barley. She could hear the cops in the background along with the search dogs. She heard the thoughts of panic that set in as Brent tried to catch his breath hiding in the safety of the abandoned Farmhouse. The more she watched the more it started to fascinate her. She could hear Brent’s nervous thoughts.

Then something grabbed the attention of the spiritual spectator. The evening sun was setting over the empty field and Katie could see herself. She could feel Brent’s heart leap from his chest as if it was her own. For the first since this vision began heard his thoughts pause as if he couldn’t find words. She saw the breathtaking outline of the beautiful redhead that had left him so captivated. It was as if time itself had stopped. Then came the sting of the bullet as it pierced Brent’s flesh. “Wait!” her voice rang out. “Can you. . can you go back?”

“Of course! Just this once, though.” Came Aeryn’s voice as the scene in this vision began to rewind like a video from the internet.”This far?”

“Yes, Thank you,” she said, watching the scene over in utter amazement. It wasn’t her own beauty she found so amazing, but his reaction that set her heart ablaze. A grin painted itself across her mortal face, surrounded by cheeks that flushed a deep Crimson color. “He’s so. . “

“In Love with you?” Aeryn finished the sentence of an otherwise speechless Katie. “This is the timeline you wrote when you took the time capsules.”

“Time Capsules?” Katie asked as the faint sound of a rattling pill bottle reached her ears. “I couldn’t find them when I woke up. Did I use them all? Why can’t I remember seeing any of this?”

“Because it was drained from the River of Time.” Aeryn replied, the vision in front of her eyes growing dark. “When something is drained from the River of Time it gets erased leaving only tiny grains of Memory in its wake. Like grains of sand. See? No matter what you did to fix a past relationship, the same result always happened, just differently. The two of you always found each other.”

Aeryn’s words echoed through Katie’s mind. Tears trickled from the corners of her mortal eyes. She only heard a brief stirring of Brent’s thoughts before they faded away. Katie opened her eyes slowly. She could no longer hear the sound of Aeryn’s voice echoing through her brain. She instantly used the time it would take for the vertigo-like feeling to fade, to reflect.
