“Hmm…” I mumbled to myself as I id down, staring into the sky, not really expecting anything important to happen.
“Not expecting you to be here, of all pces.” A voice rang out, slowly creeping into my view.
“What about it? Sometimes I just need to rex and be somewhere a bit quieter.” I replied.
“Hmph. Fair enough.” Rico said before taking a few steps back, not actually leaving the scene. “Too bad the rest of the world can’t actually have the luxury that you or I have. But it is simply human nature, I suppose.”
“Where did that come from?” I asked, wondering why she is getting philosophical all of a sudden.
“Don’t mind me. Just someone who loves to compin.” She said, not really eborating on anything. “I’m not here to trauma dump. Your ears will be free of that.”
“...So do you have anything else to say?” I said, wondering why she is even here right now.
“So. What did you do yesterday?” …I see. So that’s what she wanted to ask.
“Nothing too important. I just tracked down someone I don’t like and gave them lessons in humility.” There is only so much I can tolerate before getting involved. Seriously, the amount of targets on her back is simply unfair.
“Just that? Well then, I hope it was a good lesson.” She commented. Come on now, there’s no need to go that far. “Can’t say I know how effective you are at teaching someone, but I hope nothing bad came out of it.”
“Please, don’t start any rant on the justification of doing ‘that’. Surely even you can come up with something not involving snuffing out a life.” There are plenty of things people like us can do that are about as effective.
“Heh. Perhaps I can be a bit of a better person like you said, but… No, don’t worry. I will spare you the long monologue. I’m simply here because I have something more important to rey.” She expined, her tone shifting to something a bit less cheerful. “Once the clock strikes one in the afternoon, the clouds will dance like madmen, sounds of birds wailing out in pain, many tears of the sky turn into comets of salt, the horizon painted in purple light, and the bck serpents shall cry foul and descend, it will be a signal for a change to the world stage. World so vast, humans are so plentiful, yet everything seems too boring for the eyes of heaven.”
I stood back up as I heard those words. Those are not words I want or expected to hear at all.
“Excuse me?” I said, wondering if I could get more details out of it.
“Basically, since nothing is happening on a rge scale, and things like dungeons aren’t advancing anything at the moment. Someone is thinking about stirring things up.” She vaguely said. So this is about entertainment, is it? “By the way. We’re not talking about Mori here, they’re actually not involved.”
“Just what are they pnning…” I muttered out loud. “So who exactly are we talking about then?”
“Can’t say. It’d be spoilers.” Figures. Of course she’d say that.
“I assume they won’t target any area with people like us around?” Surely even if they’re stronger than us they won’t draw ire from so many super-powered individuals.
“Yep, so you can at least take soce in that.” She cheerfully said. She really doesn’t seem to care about the amount of casualties if those events really do happen, and those are simply meant to be signs, not the actual event. “Hey now, it’s not like you’re at fault for this happening. Also, when were you ever someone who cares that much about people you never know?”
“It’d be rather concerning if I don’t feel a little bit guilty.” Sure, a lot of people don’t care that much about people they don’t know, but they don’t have a completely callous reaction to it. “If I started to not care about any of that, who knows where I’ll end up in the future.”“Heh. Fair enough.” She said with a small smirk. “Well then. I don't want to keep you occupied for too long. I’m sure you want to rex until then.”
*Zoom*
She teleported away after saying that. Just great. Cursing me with that knowledge and then choosing to dip. Asshole.
Looks like this is another thing to look over. Still. I don’t actually know what would actually happen once those signs hit. I think a bunch of people being changed is already a huge deal, not to mention those monsters, what else would come up at this point?
I’m just gonna go back to rexing. It’s not like I have any homeworks left unattended, and Karra hadn’t asked me out to do something during lunch break. Not that she had even tried to at this point, which is a wise choice in my opinion. No one really knows how much surveilnce they have in that school.
*Ring* *Ring* *Beep*
“Hm? What is it, Karra?” It’s rare for her to call me now of all times. Is there a big problem happening? That seems unlikely considering the security of the school.
“
*Crash*
“Ack!” What the hell is all these white pow… Oh are you fucking serious right now!?
“
“Kwakkwakwak!” Really annoying bird-like sounds ringing in my ears. So this is seriously the start of it?
“Alright, Karra. I want you to stay indoors and find a good pce for an outdoor view.” I said as I looked up into the sky, the clouds going berserker and moving around at a speed you’d only ever see in a sped-up video. “I’m just gonna leave it at that.”
*Beep*
I don’t actually have much info to give her anyway, so it’s best to just hang up instead of keeping the call up awkwardly.
*Crack* *Crash*
Small comets made of salt start raining down and immediately shatter on impact. They probably won’t do much damage, since there isn’t actually that many of them raining down, but this is still a disturbing sight to see. Just completely out of nowhere and feels like something out of a religious text.
Still, just what could come out of all of these signs? Just what are they thinking as they send these messages across the world?
*Spsh*
Great, there is actual rain as well. Looks like I couldn’t actually get a good rest up here without erecting a barrier. Fine then, I’ll just go back indoors and go find Karra.
*Zoom*
I couldn’t bother with changing back at this point. It’s not like I have a css to attend to anyway, and my presence here…
“W-What is she doing here?” Heh. As expected, my presence combined with everything else is causing greater panic amongst the students and teachers. Just a bit of amusement for me.
If it was elsewhere I might bother to conceal myself, since hysteria could lead to unfortunate accidents, but I trust the people here to keep everything under control.
Now then, Karra is at… One of the secret locations. It’s actually the area used to store the airship, which is also high up in the sky for a good vantage point. I can see why she would go there.
Everyone is taking a brief gnce at me before backing off and trying to look occupied so I wouldn’t notice. It looks like my reputation is still intact, no one really dared to look at me for more than a few seconds. It’s quite fascinating, considering I don’t have the reputation of torturing or killing others. My sheer raw power seems to be more than enough to deter them. Of course, none of them really knows how much I possess. It’s an ever-increasing number, so no one is gonna bother tracking it.
*Zoom*
Quickly entering the location and letting the teleporter do its thing, I make my way to the hangar. There are a few interesting things here, but that is none of my concern at the moment.
“It is quite the sight, isn’t it?” I remarked to Karra who was staring out, seeing the rain and chaotic movement of the clouds that defies their natural path.
“Yeah… What the hell is this?” She naturally said, having no clue on why this is happening at all. She also subtly points at her camera neckce she has. So she is streaming this right now.
“Let’s just say the world at rge still felt a bit too dull for all that has happened. Not my opinion, of course, just of whoever caused this event in the first pce.” I vaguely expined. I do not have that much information to myself, so the best I can do is just guess with very little information. “Just stay seated. I’m sure you don’t want a face-full of salt smacking you on the head.”
Karra looked at me with a somewhat bewildered look. She is basically asking ‘D-Did that happen to you?’. I simply nodded at her in response. “Who really knows what the one governing the world now mandated. We as mortals can only look on in awe and hopelessness.”
She tried to not make any mocking expression at me. I know that was a bit cheesy, but I am pying it up for the camera. I’m sure her viewers will like that.
“So what happens now?” She asked as she looked into the horizon. A faint purple glow appeared on the edge, looking like it was starting to consume the world. “This… doesn’t look good. Like, at all.”
“Rex. It won’t be as big of a change as the initial one. We’re not looking to see more odd mechanics of the world being introduced, or reintroduced.” From what I can gather there should be some change, probably amplifying things that already exist. That’s what my intuition is telling me. “It is a pretty sight, isn’t it?”
“Y-Yeah?” She said, not sounding all too sure. Heh. That’s fair enough. I’m sure she is more concerned about the possible damages.
From this high up, we are closer to the clouds than we do the ground. She is probably still taking in all the signs of the apocalypse.
I look up into the sky, seeing the comets of salt starting to lessons in numbers, but the rain remains strong despite the sky having an aneurysm.
*Roar* *Screech*
Karra obviously looked concerned as she looked up into the sky, hearing those screeches that felt like they would pierce eardrums.
A bunch if bck flying snakes appear, slowly slithering in mid-air without any clear direction. Their behavior is simir to a chrysopelea. These things, they probably have a very simple directive motivating their actions.
Despite a somewhat mundane appearance, their power is very much real. Considering Karra’s reaction, it is also clear that she knows full well these things can cause a lot of damage if left unchecked.
Just what are they thinking when creating these things, I might never ever know.
“I’ll handle it. There’s no need to worry.” I patted her shoulder as I walked forward, summoning the thin bde to my side. Looks like I ultimately have to step in. I don’t really know why, but even without trying to force out an answer, I know that I shouldn’t stay still by her side at this time.
I take a stance, staring up into the sky full of these creatures. All of them merely exist for this one moment, fleeting yet meaningful in its own way. Perhaps they will simply disappear once they did a little bit of damage. Perhaps they will create catastrophe. Maybe they just won’t do anything at all.
In the end, it may all be performative, but I can’t exactly be seen as a mere bystanding in all of these, can I? Having all of these powers and some privileges, why shouldn’t I show it off?
