Chapter 28: Dont shoot the Messenger

  {Elder Lewis}

As I went through the usual paperwork that I do on a regular basis there was a knock on the door. "Come in!"

I looked up to see the person that entered was Elder Amanda. She's a new Elder in training and it seems like she's learning the ropes pretty fast but she has a year of probation to go through before she's considered a real Elder.

I raised an eyebrow. "Elder Amanda, why are you here?"

"Well hell to you too sir," Elder Amanda said.

I rolled my eyes. "What do you want?"

"I was wondering how do you get someone from a different congregation and a different job to transfer over to your congregation in order to be with you?" Elder Amanda asked as she sat down on a chair across from me at my desk.

"Why? Are you dating someone?" I asked.

Elder Amanda shook her head. "Not yet, but I bet if I play my cards right I will be."

"And who would the lucky guy or gal be?" I questioned.

Elder Amanda smiled when she said, "He's an Agent and his Agent ID is Agent 72."

When I heard who Elder Amanda wanted to date I burst into a fit of laughter. After a moment I composed myself and cleared my throat. "You do realize that he's gay right?"

"Well what if I use a blood oath?" She asked.

That question made my blood boil. Blood oaths were used as a method to control someone. Thankfully, the policy on blood oaths has been changed. Blood oaths are forbidden to do by anyone in the congregation and that includes leaders. It was an order handed down by Queen Amore herself.

"Yeah that's not going to happen. You can't do blood oaths anymore," I said. "Agent 72 is gay and he's dating two men."

"Well what if I rescue him? If I rescue him from a situation then he'll be in my debt right?" Elder Amanda said.

I groaned. "First of all, things don't work that way. You can't make somebody date you just because you rescue them from something. And second, he's not going to want you even if he wasn't dating anyone. Honestly, I would leave him alone and go find someone else who's straight and wants to be with you."

Elder Amanda shook her head. "Nope. I want to be with Agent 72. He's totally my type and I want to be with him."

I raised an eyebrow. "Is that the only reason you want to be with him?"

"Yeah pretty much and I'm sure I can find other reasons to be with him later," Elder Amanda said.

I groaned again and muttered underneath my breath, "What is it with women and men chasing after someone who won't give them the time of day?"

"What was that?" Elder Amanda asked.

I shook my head. "Nothing. Is that all you wanted to talk about?"

She nodded. "And don't worry I'll find a way to get Agent 72 to date me. Even if he doesn't want to, he'll be mine."

I laughed again, "I would say good luck but I'm not because I know that whatever scheme you got going on in that little head of yours is doomed to fail."

She gave me an evil grin. "No, my plan will work. Mark my words, Agent 72 will be mine."

I stared at her in disbelief as she got up and left the room. I couldn't believe that this woman really thinks she can get a gay man to date her. Maybe if they were the last human male on earth and even then that's a bit of a reach. After Elder Amanda left I burst into another fit of laughter.

I sat down at the edge of the bed watching Eve sleep and felt a sense of relief about finally knowing what's been bothering her. I can't even begin to fathom how much emotional pain she's been suppressing over the years. If something like that happened to a normal human they would pretty much have a mental break. I used to know a lot of people who had deadbeat fathers when they were growing up and I probably still have people working for me that had deadbeat fathers or estranged relationships with their parents.

It makes me feel lucky that I grew up in a stable household surrounded by friends and parents who love me and support me.

"Hey there," I heard a voice say. I looked up to see Branden standing in the doorway.

  "Hi?" I said. "What's up?"

"Well it looks like I'll be sticking around to help Eve out her pregnancy. I'll be here until she gives birth to the baby," Branden said.

"Alright let me grab some clothes so we can step outside and talk," I said. "I just wore Eve out enough to get her to sleep and I would like for her to sleep as long as possible."

Branden chuckled. "Yeah I know how that is. Wearing an Agent out in bed is a job on its own. But it's a fun job. It takes almost all night for me to wear George out even with Triple X's help."

I deadpanned, "Okay I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that. I don't need to know how my brother's sex life is."

"What, he's really good in bed and it's too bad you aren't gay or I'd try to sleep with you too," Branden teased.

"Did I just hear what I think I just heard?" George growled as he came around the corner. "You're hitting on my brother Branden?"

"Oh chill out George, I'm teasing," Branden said. "Besides Levi's handsome and all that jazz but he's not my type."

"Then who is your type?" George asked while giving Branden a flirting look.

Branden walked up to George and pulled him into his arms and kissed him. After he let go he said, "Does that answer your question? Besides, I don't hit on married men. I'm not a homewrecker."

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

"But you just said-" George said.

Branden rolled his eyes. "Again I was just teasing."

"Uh guys, can you talk about your love life someplace else? Branden, weren't you getting ready to talk to me about something important in regards to Eve? That's why I got dressed and stepped outside," I said.

"Oh yeah that's right," Branden said. "I figured out what the cause of Eve being restless could be."

"And what might that be?" I asked.

"Her baby needs to release the extra energy it has stored," Branden said. "I know it's still just a fetus but it has powers already that won't manifest outside the womb until after a few months of the baby being born. Eve told me she had the same problem when she was pregnant with Zoey so that might've been the same issue."

"But once she starts showing and gets put on bedrest she'll have to slow down regardless," I said.

"True, but until then I'm here to help," Branden said.

"That's good to know because I'm going to need all the help I can get," I said. I wasn't kidding about that statement because from what I've been dealing with when it comes down to Eve, taking care of a baby is much easier than keeping up with Eve.

  {Ronda}

Being an Agent is hard work. Being a Double Agent is even harder. It's only been a couple of weeks since I took over leading the Rebellion. I looked through Blades papers and notebooks and who he kept track of, whether or not he lent money to someone and punishments he handed out. Some of the punishments seemed rather harsh but it made sense someone's gotta keep this group of criminals in line.

The latest punishment Blade handed out before he died was to take all but fifteen of the Cobra's soldiers because their leader Anthony ordered for Agent 36 and Agent 72 to be kidnapped behind Blade's back. I probably would've done the same thing if not worse if it happened to me.

I don't have Demon Power but I do have Stunning Powers which are just as effective. Blade never agreed with my methods of discipling people. But he still chose me as the next leader if something happened to Diego. Something happened to Diego alright. I had a feeling it was going to happen because I knew Diego wasn't going to be able to deal without Blade.

"Well someone's busy today," I heard someone say.

I looked up and smiled when I saw him. He was an Agent just like I am. His Agent ID is Agent 2B. The funny thing about him was he was fired from his job and his memory was wiped but the thing is the memory wipe doesn't last very long. It only lasts for a week and that's long enough to get the Agent that's been fired settled into a new life and assume a new name. His name right now is Liam but his name before the memory wipe was Lucas and he remembers who he is. Right now he's actually a double agent too.

But he's a double agent for another reason and reason is that he wants to be together with Elder Lewis. Why anyone would want that guy is beyond me. So when a congregation leader, Leader Triple X took an interest in him he used that opportunity to figure out what's going on with Elder Lewis. Now he's plotting his revenge on the woman that got him fired from being an Elder and that woman is Auntie 21. However, it's been found out that Auntie 21 is now a Lab Rat because she's pregnant with Elder Lewis's child when she wasn't supposed to go anywhere near his sperm.

It's not a fitting revenge to Liam for what she did to him. Liam wants to kidnap Auntie 21 (or whatever her Lab Rat name is now) and kill her once the baby is born and raise the baby on his own.

From what I hear the polices on wiping someone's memory have changed. They are now forbidden and that machine for that has been destroyed. I looked at the information and it's checked out. Liam pretended to love Triple X in order to find this information out. I must say he put on quite an act. He even went so far as to bully the other person in the relationship pretending to be jealous of them. It makes me wonder if his cover job should be being an actor sometimes.

I looked up at Liam. "Yeah I'm just going over Blade's paperwork and everything that he left behind. The man was pretty disciplined with his stuff. I can't believe he didn't suspect me as being a double agent. The stupid fool."

"Yeah I know," Liam said. "I can't wait to get my revenge on Auntie 21 for what she did. I miss Elder Lewis so bad. I started missing him the moment my memory came back. I think it's cruel what the Organization does to people who don't follow the rules now." He shuddered. "Honestly, I'd rather have my memory wiped until I get settled into my new life."

"I'm out of the loop on this one but what are they doing to Agents that get fired now?" I asked.

"Well they're sent to a prison camp for sixty days and then if they survive that they're sent to Boot Camp again and if they survive Boot Camp then they're given a new name and a new job," Liam explained. "It's funny how the Council thought wiping someone's memory and placing them in a new job and new name was cruel but now the new policy isn't cruel enough. I'm starting to agree with the factions on wanting to take the Organization down. But I doubt that's even possible. Especially now that there's that team of Super Agents. Oh and by the way I managed to catch a rat that's been lurking outside the rundown bar that serves as our hideout."

  I paused. "Huh?"

Liam looked behind him and said, "Bring him in."

Two of my soldiers dragged a young man in who looked scared out of his mind.

"D-don't! Don't kill me!" the young man cried.

I smirked. "Oh I'm not going to kill you if you give me a good reason not to."

"I… I have a message from the Council!" the young man stammered. "I'm… I'm here to talk to Agent 009. The Council said that I should be able to find her here."

The young man took out of his pocket a letter and handed it to Liam. Liam handed the letter to me. The letter had the Council's seal on it and it read:

  Dear Double Agent 009,

We trust that by now you have successfully taken over the leadership role for the faction called the Rebellion. The time for war against the factions is now. Remember your role here isn't to lead the factions, it is to help us exterminate them. Round up every former Agent who is involved within the factions and leave everyone else who isn't a former Agent alone. We'll be able to take care of the leftovers once they come marching up to our front door so to speak.

And please, whatever you do, don't shoot the messenger. We need him alive in order to hear your response. Please send your response via video on the USB stick that is provided with this letter.

  Sincerely,

  The Council

I laughed at the last paragraph. "Well Mr. Messenger Boy! It's your lucky day! You get to live after all!"

I did as I was told and handed my response to the messenger and let him go.

  {Elder Lewis}

A council meeting was called the moment we got the response from Agent 009 back from the messenger.

We sat around the computer projector screen and Elder Williams called everything to order. "Order! We have a response from Agent 009. If she's done her job right then the extermination shall begin soon."

Elder Williams plugged in the USB stick and clicked on a video and let it play. The image on the computer screen showed Agent 009 and she had an evil smile on her face.

She cleared her throat. "If the Council is watching this then my mission has been successful. Blade Reid and Diego Lisaon are dead and I have taken on the leadership role as leader for the Rebellion. This also a message of a declaration of war. I know that the time is now to weed out the traitors and let the other soldiers under my care march right up to your front door.

"Oh and I left the messenger boy alive, not unscathed but alive."

Everyone in the room snickered at that comment.

"Either way," Agent 009 continued, "The greenlight for Operation Slaughterhouse is on. I will make my next moves accordingly."

After that the screen turned black. Elder Williams turned to us and grinned. "Excellent! A war is coming and it's going to get rid of those stupid fools who thought they could defy us!"

After we discussed how things were going to be set up for the upcoming war the meeting ended.

A war is coming and I'm curious to see how the team of Super Agents aka Modern Day Knights are going to do on the front lines. Agent 36 will be in the war a year after her baby's born but with any luck we'll have the war ended before she's back on the job. Operation Slaughterhouse will go on and the Organization will punish those who thought they could defy us. Once Operation Slaughterhouse is over the Organization will proceed with reaching the goal of world domination.
