Book 2 ch 22

Lisa watched from her vantage point as the wolves circled around Jeff and the summons. In truth, just her summons alone could take this pack out easily, but she was not here to train up her summons, she was here to train up Jeff. As if coordinated, the bulk of the wolves went after her adventurer party while half a dozen others went after Jeff and his much more vulnerable group. It did not matter however as just as coordinated the wolves were in their attack Jeff and his summons acted just as quickly. The three weaker summons charged the two flanking on one side as the sword summon of his acted instantly to cut one wolf down and challenged two more as Jeff took on a single one himself.

She was actually intrigued by his fighting style, most summoners who create units to fight for them do not fight themselves. And if they do it is usually to fill the role of archer or healer. And the reason why is quite easy to tell as well. They usually do not live long on the front lines.

Less than thirty seconds after the two groups met one another, the fight was over and Jeff’s summons started cleaning up the field as hers secured the perimeter. As they did, she left her stealth on her perch of a nearby tree and hopped down, making a playful show of it. Her hips swayed, and her tail swayed as well. It amused her that after a year of stretched time, they had been together, he still stares at her when she does that.

“ So what did you learn from that fight.”

Jeff just shrugged as he cleaned off his blade.

“ Not much, even though the wolves are about the same level, they were not a challenge. However, things would have been different if they had one more in their number.”

  Lisa nods to this approvingly.

The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

“ Complacency is a slow and insidious killer, at least that is what the saying says. I have had years of monster-slaying, which is as boring as the tenth fight as the thousandth. The danger is always there, however. Come on, lets get this cleaned up so we can move on. You should be able to fight one or two more groups today before we call it a night.”

Jeff nods to this and the wolf pelts and meat are quickly gathered. Other than a select few bones, nothing else was worth taking. After that was done Lisa took to her role as scout and trap breaker to lead them into another fight against a similar pack of wolves. For the next few hours they did that until they decided to set up camp. It was not long after that that they sat down for dinner.

“ You know, when I was younger, I would have killed for the kinds of hauls you are pulling out of here. That porter summon of yours with that massive backpack is a cheat.”

Jeff chuckled at that as he looked at the porter summon doing an inventory of the pack.

“ You say that, but do you know how much money it took to get there? Do not get me wrong, the loan is a pain, but having enough money to splurge is nice too.”

Lisa could not help but laugh at that.

“ For the amount of money you throwing around, I bet half the women you meet want to sleep with you for it.”

  Jeff frowned at that.

“ Not as many as you would think. Then again any woman who would sleep with me for my money is not worth my time.”

Lisa could not help but smile gently at that as the conversation died right there. Considering she was on his short list.

“ So, you been an adventurer for a while. Any adventurers you want to talk about?”

Jeff looked at her hopeful but his hopes were dashed when she shook her head.

“ Any fight worth remembering is one where people died, and I know you are not asking about those. Funny moments usually quite quickly turn into deadly moments in dungeons. It is superstition for a reason that nine out of ten times when someone is laughing at you for some reason you are either a dead man walking or at least going to be maimed for life.”

Jeff looked disappointed to her but had eyes that showed he understood. She had to remember that no matter how much her life sucks at times it was nothing compared to what he or some of his friends have been through.

With a sigh she decided to do a parieter check as he started cooking. Something she had started letting him do when she discovered he was not a bad cook. It also helped he always had seasoning for the meat.
