His father spoke up ready to inform Donatello on what he'd missed in the past 6 months. "Donny, I regret to inform you that in the time that you were gone laws have changed and you may not go on a Pokemon journey in Kanto/Johto until you reach 15 years old." Donny stared at his father for a second, not fully processing his words before it clicked. "Father, you can't be serious right no way." His father looked sternly at him. "You think I would lie to you son? The controversy surrounding this has been 5 years in the making. The anger of the people of Kanto/Johto at their inadequate children has been boiling for decades longer. For all of our reach we cannot stop the force of the people no one it is illegal for you to go on a journey I suggest you stop in at Professor Oak's summer camp. It'll start up soon, tomorrow actually." Donny almost looked offended at the remark "Father! You think I need some training camp! I survived alone in the Dragon's Den!" His father shook his head "it's not that I believe you need to learn more about Pokemon, it's that I believe you need to meet people your age and learn some social skills, boy."
Donny pouted "For what we live in the silver mountains I'll probably never see anyone there for the next 5 years at least!" His father gave him a stern look "Do not argue with me on this boy I know that it will do you well." Donny scowled at him "It's not about that father!" His voice grew quieter "I don't want to just leave again I just got back and you're already shooing me away I missed you and everyone else that's still here"
His father had never been the emotional type so he didn't understand his son's feelings "I believe tha-" "Forget it father I'll go to the damn summer camp it'll last till September right so three months." Donny stomped out of the room without sparring the man a final glance. Dreepy and Applin glared back as Donny walked. He stopped by all of his remaining siblings' rooms; only the younger ones were left, the older ones had left on journey's before the change in laws. Then he stopped at his room and showered before beginning to pack for the stupid summer camp. He had calmed down from his talk with his dad between his hyper happy younger siblings and his pokemon playing as he packed, but that didn't mean he wasn't mad at the old man. It was just infuriating that he was being sent away for three more months after not interacting with his family for 6 months. "Maid! Butler! Someone!" He yelled as he had remembered something important he'd forgotten to do when he got home. A maid quickly arrived at his room "Welcome home master Donatello what is it that you need." Donny looked her up and down, she was new he'd memorized all of the maids and butlers long ago. "Bring me a park ball and a luxury ball please and thank you." The maid bowed to him "I will retrieve the luxury ball right away but you will need clearance from sir Draco for a park ball master Donatello." Donny let out an annoyed huff "Yeah that tracks thanks anyway bring the luxury ball to my father's quarters that's where I'll be anyway. Dreepy, Applin, let's go!" He made his way back towards his father's office and knocked before being told to enter "I need a park ball father." "Granted." One of the personal maids in his father's room quickly retrieved a park ball and gave it to him in time for the luxury ball to arrive as well "Alright you two ready to make this thing official?" "Dreep!" "Appl!" The park ball touched the Applin's apple and the luxury ball bounced off Dreepy both were officially Donny's Pokemon. He quickly sent both out again. "Alright let's go, and uh father I'm ready to go at any time." With that he left again and a smile grew on his face, he licked his lips. He sprinted faster than he ever had towards the dining hall. He stopped as he entered and locked on to the pantry door. "Forget food, it's been so long since I've had anything sweet!" The first thing he grabbed from the freezer was chocolate then he went to the shelves for cookies. Chips, cakes, fruit, but not candy he strongly disliked candy chocolate was its own thing according to him. He gorged himself on the snacks with his Pokemon for a while before he was satisfied (and sick).
Tomorrow came quicker than Donny liked and just as quickly he was in front of Oaks lab with a bunch of brats that probably never even had their own Pokemon. The ones he noticed in the bunch were the ones that stuck out. One had black hair with red streaks, tan skin, and big blue eyes. He was being a smartass and showing off for the girl attached to him like he was some king. She had maroon hair, light skin and green eyes. She didn't stand out at all; she was just attached to red hair. One had jet black hair, lighter tan skin, reddish brown eyes, and weird Z lookin marks on his cheeks. He had a pichu with him. Another had brown hair, light skin and black eyes. God was he a snarky bastard just because Oak was his grandpa. Finally a girl with honey blonde hair, light skin and blue eyes. She had a thick kalosian accent. Everyone else just looked like random brats. Donny was sure he stood out though Dark skin, black hair, bright purple eyes, and he had Dreepy on his head, Applin was in its pokeball.
"Hello class, welcome to my Pokemon summer camp. Some of you may know me as Samuel or Prof Oak and others may have just learned that. Anyway, for the next 3 months you will all live in a camp and I will teach you more about Pokemon in nature with hands-on experience…" Donny stopped listening, he didn't care anymore. Even his dad said he didn't need this, he was just here for 'social skills' or whatever. After the old man finished his little speech everyone said their goodbyes to their parents with dramatics and hugs while Donny had just said bye and ran off towards the kid with a Pichu. "Hey you! Let's battle now!" Donny had whatever the opposite of a way with words was he demanded a battle it wasn't an offer. "O-Okay my name is Ash by the way this is Pichu" Donny looked up at Dreepy before shaking his head "Sorry Dreepy this one's gonna go to Applin you're too strong. Oh yeah, my name's Donatello. You can call me Donny if you earn my respect." They took position away from each other but Oak stopped them "Now now I'm sure your both excited but it wouldn't be safe for me to let chil-" he was cut off by the commanding tone of Donatello's father "My boy won't let it get out of control Professor let it happen." Much like his son the man issued a command to Oak not a suggestion. "Well… okay if you say so sir…" the old man replied shakily. Red hair walked up in between them "this will be a one on one battle against uhm… What are your names?" Goh had overlooked asking the others their names "Ash Ketchum" "Donatello Draco" Goh cleared his throat and spoke up again "this will be a battle between Ash Ketchum and Donatello Draco! 3… 2… 1… Battle Begin!"
"Applin go!" "Pichu go!"
Applin took the field with its best roar (more of a squeak). Though the Pichu did the same so it wasn't too embarrassing. "Applin astonish then rollout!" "Pichu attack, attack! Hit it!" The crowd of kids and parents realized Ash had no idea what he was doing. Applin spooked the Pichu and rolled at it quickly while Pichu tried to shock it to no reaction from the very resistant Apple, Pichu was knocked out from one rollout. "That was boring, you suck its like that was your first battle." Donny spat bluntly as kids tended to do. "Oh no Pichu!" Ash said as he ran up to the little mouse scooping it up "Wow your Applin is really strong and you said Dreepy is too strong I wonder how powerful it is!" Donny brushed him off blushing slightly; he never really got compliments in his family; it wasn't that they weren't proud, just never expressed it with such passion. "Y-Yeah well it was nothing Applin did all the real work." Oak clapped, getting everyone's attention "Now that we've all said goodbye and watched a fun battle let us start walking towards camp we wouldn't want to be late would we." And so they began hiking towards the camp. It was pretty quick, maybe 15 minutes. Donny however refused to stay with the pack; he constantly went off trail to the point where Oak ended up holding his hand only to be bitten by Dreepy so he could run off again. His adventurous escapades seemed to inspire the referee from his battle to do the same thing the girl was sure to follow. They got lost but luckily before Oak even had to get a Pokemon to search Dreepy already zipped around the area and found them. But when they did reach the camp Oak showed them around there was some staff getting prepared but other than that it was pretty empty. "…26 27 28 29 30 so that will be 5 per cabin oh dear I'll have to get some sleeping bags for the fifth in each cabin… Anyway children while we are here you'll all be assigned 1 of six cabins: Charmander, Bulbasuar, Squirtle, Pikachu, Eevee, or Dratini. They are where you will keep your stuff and sleep. Now let's split you up into cabins…" Donny ended up in a cabin with Goh, Serena, Joey, and due to a lot of begging on her part Chloe honestly he wouldn't have been surprised if she ended up sleeping in the same bed as Goh she clung to him like a moth to a street lamp. The group had exchanged names on the way to their cabin; they got Charmander cabin. As they walked inside they noticed the problem 2 bunk beds 1 sleeping bag they all immediately tried to claim a bed until Donny screeched. "HELL NO! I spent the last six months sleeping on hard rock! I'll die before sleeping on the floor again one of you idiots better move!" Serena and Chloe jumped a bit at his outburst and Serena spoke up. "Uhm why were you sleeping on rock, did your parents make you?" Donny lost a bit of intimidation as he tried to come up with an explanation that didn't get his family investigated " well no I uh… I WANTED TO SLEEP OUTSIDE OK! JUST GIVE ME A DAMN BED!" He turned to Chloe "Why don't you sleep with your boyfriend or whatever and give me your bed." Goh perked up next "Hey! She's not my girlfriend but she's my friend and I'm not gonna let you take her bed!" He jumped as Dreepy snapped at him "Oh yeah then fight me for it!" "I guess I will!" Donny lunged at him and picked him up with great struggle before slamming him on a bed. "I've been fighting dragons for the last six months. This is light work!" He began to rain down punches on Goh before Goh started crying "Wah! Stop it you win you win I'll give you my bed don't take Chloe's!" Donny stopped the second he surrendered. It wasn't honorable to beat on an opponent who already gave up. "Forget it, stealing from the weak isn't very honorable, keep your stupid bed. I should've been faster to claim one." Chloe looked at him with a bit of fear "Why'd you do that then…" Donatello looked up at the dragon on his head "Dreepy pick a spot for my sleeping bag." As Dreepy shot off his head he released Applin from its pokeball "Hey Applin we're gonna be sleeping here go decide on a spot with Dreepy." As the two Pokemon began to argue over what spot was better Serena and Joey walked up to Donatello. Joey spoke first "Hey Donatello you kept saying you've been outside and fighting Pokemon for the last 6 months what's that all about." Donny, completely forgetting his earlier reluctance, said "I guess I'll best- best… Bestow my story upon you." And excitedly told them about his time in the Dragon's Den being sure to leave out a lot of the times he got laid out by a dragon. "…And that was when Dreepy rammed into it super fast." He was cut off however as Oak, with a group already behind him, came into the cabin to collect them for dinner. So he collected his fighting dragons and quickly left with the rest of his cabin.
Oak gathered the group to eat around a campfire which everyone seemed to enjoy. The dinner was pretty good, nothing special but anything was better than Magikarp lips so he ate greedily nonetheless. But when The professor pulled out s'more ingredients he couldn't hold back a smile of glee, he couldn't remember the last time he'd had such a delicious treat nothing could compare to s'mores for him. As he finished making it he did his best to break it three ways to share with Dreepy and Applin, but Applin only took a single bite. So he tried to grab it but Dreepy snatched it away using its incredible speed. He even managed to nab the last marshmallow, which he shared with his friends Serena and Joey this time since he wanted to train before bed and making another s'more would take too long for him. He left to train, managing to escape without Oak noticing. It was light training as the wild Pokemon around here were significantly weaker than in the cave and his Pokemon weren't exactly known for the amount of moves they could learn.
"There you are, Joey and I were wondering where you ran off too." Donny jumped at Serena's voice. How hadn't he noticed her? "Well if I'm gonna be a great trainer I gotta train, but I'm done for now if you're gone too the old man is going to notice us being missing let's go." Serena nodded and began to follow him back "hey Donny- Donatello how do you know the way back so easily." "No you can call me Donny, I know how to get back mostly because I remembered which way I went but also Dreepy has a pretty good sense of smell or somthin." Donatello didn't even think as he explained himself he was mindlessly following his arrow shaped Pokemon. "But if you don't know the way, how'd you find me? Did you just wander around outside of camp?" "Yup." "Serena, that's super dangerous without a Pokemon! One Beedrill or Pinser and you could be seriously hurt!" She rolled her eyes "I'm fine though." "Fair enough. Look, we're back." As they got back it seemed dinner was finishing up and oak was bidding the campers goodnight and sending them back to their cabins. When Serena and Donny arrived at the cabin Joey was nowhere to be seen while Goh and Chloe were reading a book about fire type Pokemon. Goh looked up at the pair "well look who finally decided to show up! I hope you two told Professor Oak your back he might still be out searching for you. We all had to go back to our cabins early when Joey noticed Serena was missing!" Donny grimaced. "Dreepy think you're fast enough to find Oak and Joey within let's say 2 minutes?" "Dreep! Dreepy!" Donny had to challenge the little dragon to do it otherwise it wouldn't consider it a worthwhile thing to do. Kind of like saying 'I bet you can't do it'. With Dreepy's speed the crisis was averted however, Oak could connect the dots when Dreepy pointed towards camp and Joey was dragged back to the cabin by Dreepy (more like Dreepy tried to drag him and Joey walked at a brisk pace). "So what were you guys doing all alone in the woods?" Goh said as he nudged Donny in the side, causing Serena to blush. "It wasn't like that red! I was training and she followed me so I walked her back that's all. What was all that defending Chloe about earlier huh!" He tried to deflect the topic but it didn't really work and Donny was truly embarrassed for the first time. When Goh pushed his luck a bit too far Donny shoved him onto the bed and wrapped him tightly in blankets constricting him. Eventually the cabin grew tired and Donny unfurled the provided sleeping bag as everyone got into bed.

Bright and early the next day Oak had the Campers hiking through the forest as he lectured on Pokemon that could be found in forests. Today he had an Arcanine following the group like they were sheep. Anytime a child wandered just a bit too far, Donny was a regular for it within an hour. With Chloe and Goh's help they managed to give the big dog the slip by running in different directions. Unfortunately for Donny, Arcanine decided to nab him first. 5 minutes later Goh and Chloe were back. Chloe looked shaken while Goh looked like he had a purpose now, something to strive for. Donny, Serena and Joey ran up to them as they got back. "What did you two see?" Goh exploded with passion as he spoke "We saw this small pink Pokemon and it was fighting a super cool looking Nidoking! and the pink Pokemon had all sorts of powerful moves it was winning against the Nidoking! Then it transformed into other Pokemon to take it out! But after that it saw Chloe and I then teleported away."
The rest of the hike he continued to talk about it over and over like a broken record. Donny would've been interested if it wasn't small and pink that sounded like a fairy type! He was to be a dragon master. "Shut it red no one cares about your little fairy type! It would've been cool if it was a big strong dragon!" Goh was about to retort but instead took on a quizzical look "Why do you call me red?" "Well you always wear red and the red streaks in your hair." Donny replied as if it was self-evident. "Well whatever the Pokemon was super strong while being cute, best of both worlds why wouldn't you be interested!?" Donny deadpanned at Goh's words "Take a look at my head and shoulder and think real hard on why I'm not into fairies red." Goh looked for a good second before realizing. "Oh you have two dragon types, why is that by the way? most of us don't even have a Pokemon while you have two dragon types, those are supposed to be super duper hard to train." "Why else I've always been around dragons plus they have to be the strongest type!" Joey chimed in "Well ironically enough fairies are considered better competitively not to say that dragons are bad." Donny glared at him "Shut it Joey, you know how many champions have won their championship matches just because their emotions were peaking and causing the bond phenomenon to increase their Pokémon's endurance, power and agility. Competitive viability doesn't matter in the face of the power of friendship according to Pokemon." Chloe spoke up a bit shocked "That's the smartest thing I've heard you say normally your ranting about dragons or training like it's all you do. Also why don't you let anyone but Serena call you Donny, Donatello is a mouthful." "You want to fight Chloe! It's not only Serena, like that Ashton kid I let him call me Donny he and his Pichu are really willful, the never give up type. You however don't get too because you haven't done anything to prove your worth remembering." Donny replied in a snarky tone Professor Oak turned to the class following him "Now everyone we are here take a good look we will have lunch here and make our way back to camp." They were at the top of a small mountain; it couldn't even be called that more like an above average hill. Right as everyone sat down for lunch Oak stopped them again. "Pop quiz kids who can tell me how many Pokemon we met in the forest." Gary raised his hand immediately and answered 26, he was right of course and was rewarded a bag of chips. As Dreepy went to take an obligatory bite out of Donny's sandwich he snatched it away. "Go hunt your a dragon, I'll have some for you when you get back!" And so off the dragon went. Goh and Serena simultaneously spoke up. "How do you get him to listen so well?" Donny thought about it for a second. He really had it easy with his dragons so far first a young Dreepy then a newborn Applin. "Well Dreepy lost its parent Dragapult when I found it and attached to me and Applin literally fell on my head when it was newborn so I guess I've had it pretty easy." "Aw so they both see you as their dad, that's so cute!" Serena said excitedly "Well I don't know about Applin but I'm pretty sure Dreepy does." They couldn't ask Applin as it was currently rolling around with Ash's Pichu. Their lunch continued peacefully and the hike back wasn't anything special either by the time they made it back it was nighttime. Dinner passed and everyone went to sleep.
That's how the summer camp continued for a while. Oak would do an activity to teach everyone more about Pokemon. It had been about 2 and a half months since the camp started, over time from activities almost everyone had been given a pokeball by the professor. Meaning people caught Pokemon and in turn were allowed to travel in groups around the campgrounds outskirts. Serena, Donny, Chloe and Goh were supposed to be one of the groups today Joey was too busy playing with his newly caught Rattata. "Everyone ready? Remember Oak told us to be back in 3 hours because it's gonna rain." Serena said warningly. "We're gonna be back so don't worry about it Serena besides the only people we gotta worry about are those two." Donny pointed. "Why us I'm not gonna get Chloe lost!"
"Red you are going to go searching for Mew aren't you? I'm not worried about you getting lost. I just know you're going to get caught in the rain because you want to keep looking." Goh denied it vehemently but everyone knew that's exactly what he was going to do and Chloe never stopped him from stuff like this. "Anyway let's go Serena you gotta help me find a special Pokemon in the forest I think they can be found here!" Donny practically dragged Serena into the forest with Chloe and Goh running to keep up "Wait up Donatello what Pokemon are you looking for!" Goh yelled as he chased after them "It's a secret today red!" "I bet you told Serena" Donny threw a rock at him "I didn't!" "Whatever Chloe and I are done chasing you we gotta go look for Mew!" With that both groups split up. Donny and Serena slowed to a walk. "Donny, why won't you tell us what you're looking for?" "It'll ruin the surprise, besides I don't want to get my hopes up. They are pretty rare and if we find one we'll have to go back to Oak immediately with it since apparently you need permits for them because they are endangered." Donny was comfortable telling her that because she wasn't as quick to connect the dots even if it was a Pokemon that she liked they were going after. "So Serena, do you even plan to catch anything here?" "Well maybe but I don't like bug types and Rattata are Joey's thing." "Hmmm… Well what about dragon types you've seen my team and I, what do you think of us!" Serena took a moment to think before answering "Well Applin and Dreepy are really cute. And powerful. But when they evolve they become scary and fearsome right? I wouldn't want to be scared of my own partners. So dragons aren't really my type either." "Hmmmm." Serena finally noticed his thinking after every time she spoke "What are you thinking about Donny?" "Part of the secret Pokemon. But more importantly if you want cute and strong as much as I hate to admit it fairy types are for you." He certainly didn't look like he hated to admit it in fact when she nodded he smiled.
Maybe it was instinct from the cave or maybe it was the feeling of something bad about to happen but Donny stopped moving forward and told Serena to as well. A moment later a Pinser crashed into a tree and a Scyther flew after it. "Serena run away!" But Scyther seeing its opponent knocked out easily caught up to the kids. "Dreepy Quick Attack! Serena keep running. I'll catch up to you, find Goh and Chloe or Ashton's group!" And Serena did just that she kept running. Dreepy slammed into the Scyther and growled. "Applin come out and fight!" He threw Applin's pokeball "Dreepy Astonish and try Double Team we've got to have it down by now! Applin use Rollout!" Scyther realized it couldn't avoid the Dreepy and its clones, so it decided to try and focus Applin with Slash, Also a mistake. It was punished by another Quick Attack from Dreepy. After a few more hits Scyther tried to get by the dragons and chase the girl who ran, worst mistake yet. The boy jumped in front of it and punched it in the nose. A human had just punched him! Scyther was so frazzled by the human fighting that it took a powered up rollout and Quick Attack simultaneously knocking it out. "You are so lucky I'm saving this pokeball otherwise I'd give you right to Oak!" Then Donny felt a raindrop then another and another. He'd been walking with Serena for a while and now it's raining after the battle with Scyther he'd done the same thing he thought Goh would do. Well finding the surprise Pokemon was off the table now he had to find Serena. He ran in the same direction he'd seen her run. Thirty minutes and all he'd found was Ashton Ketchum who was lost from his group and now helping him search. "AH!" "That sounded like her Ash come on!" They ran towards the source of the scream and found Serena shivering on the ground with a hurt knee. Ash seemed to have the same idea as Donny as he pulled out a handkerchief, which Donny practically snatched and started to tie around Serena's knee. "Help me- never mind that's gonna be hard in the rain, I'll just carry her myself. If you need it, of course Serena!" "Hold on Donny look in that tree trunk." He obliged her request and walked over to the tree trunk where he was suddenly tackled and pushed back by a flash of cream colored fur. "An Eevee!? Are you hurt too?" He was met with a growl and Serena told him to bring her closer. "I found her while running. It started raining and we ended up in the same place. I got scared by some blue thing and fell on my knee." The Eevee didn't seem to mind as Serena reached into the trunk to pet it "this was not how I was supposed to find the surprise Pokemon but surprise I guess I was looking for Eevee." Serena smiled. "You should catch her if you were looking for her!" "No Serena, I was looking for Eevee to give one to you. It matched all your criteria: cute, Sylveon is a fairy type and strong." Donny focused. "Whatever doesn't matter now Eevee seems to like you and we gotta get you back to camp so may I pick you up?" Serena nodded and Donny picked her up with surprising ease before Eevee hopped onto her stomach and curled up. "I guess it really does like you. Hey ash can you run ahead and tell Oak. Dreepy go with him just to be safe." Ash ran with Dreepy as Donny began slowly and carefully walking back in the direction of camp. "Goh is going to tease you to no end for this Donny." Serena giggled "Oh whatever Red was going to tease me regardless especially with the whole Eevee thing that ended up working out even if the plan didn't. Besides I'll just tell him he's projecting himself and Chloe that usually makes him shut up." After 15 minutes ash, Professor Oak and Dreepy were back. Oak's Arcanine took Serena and Donny before running back to camp.
Very quickly they were back at their cabin and Donny carried her in. After a few worries were quelled the teasing began immediately. "Look at you Donnatello real hero what's next you gonna slay a Salemance guarding a tower with her inside." "Red you are lucky I'm too cold and tired to wrap you in blankets again I can do it tighter than yesterday." Goh snickered in response "Sounds like I'd better get my jabs in now then." "Sounds like I'll have to listen to even more of Red's projecting today." "It's not projecting! Chloe is just the only person that was my friend when I was little!" Donny smiled now that he had Goh being defensive "who said I was talking about Chloe you must really love her." Goh hesitated "you- I- whenever this happens you always are talking about Chloe!" "Whatever Red I'm goin to bed." Donny really was exhausted, the second his head hit his sleeping bag he was knocked out.
