"You know I always wondered what crazy things you got up to in here to make the machine run, but filling it with romance novels never came to mind" A voice said from behind Red Jack who was staring deeply into a raised pedestal glowing with runic text. The Red Jack jumped up her entire face going red and tripping over cabling. A loud whirring sound is heard as Red Jack's exo-suit engages a emergency maneuver to keep her up right. The Emerald Jack can be seen by the entry way with Delilah at his side both chuckling at the Red Jack's plight.
"How?! HOW LONG WERE YOU THERE?!" Red Jack almost screams in embarrassment.
"Long enough to know that your taste in Spades and Bakers might indicate someone we know" Emerald Jack said with a smirk and knowing glint in his green eyes. "By the way meet Delilah, William's daughter."
Red Jack's already beet red face started to transcend to glowing staring at Delilah with despair and embarrassment.
"My Dad's single by the way and he really loves going to the star observatory. His favorite food is meat pies and his favorite dessert is peach cobbler. He's not working tomorrow if you want to go ask him today!" Delilah said with obvious mirth and mischievousness.
"I... uh will do that thank you...." Red Jack muttered while trying to center herself. "What did you two come in here for anyway?"
"Delilah here was super excited to see the machine in action you've got quite the fan girl here. I was trying to find you and some of the technicians pointed me towards the maintenance area."
"I really love how it displays all of the feelings out to everyone! How did you manage to get the scriptures to interact with the distribution array without causing a synchronization fault?!" Delilah squeaked out excitedly.
"Well, I built a array that scans for faults in the encoded pass through and then supplies the fault into a deviation core where it is then sent back fixing the issue at the source and allowing for optimization of the failed scripture that started the fault in the first place." Red Jack explained with a impressed look on her face at the detail of the question.
If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
"I'll leave you both to it, Red? Come find me after you're done here we have to talk about something important before the show. Oh and please don't corrupt my best friend's daughter with your romance novels." Emerald Jack said laughing as he walked out of the maintenance space.
Red sighed and looked over at Delilah. "What else do you want to know?"
"Where did the machine come from? It doesn't look like we built it so how did it end up here?"
The Red Jack looked thoughtful for a moment. "Honestly? We're not sure ourselves. We thought it could've been something left over from a shadow incursion but that didn't seem to be the case as it's written in scripture. Every Splitter that's looked through it's scripture has been able to read it just fine. It's possible we did create it but maybe a different version of us were the ones to craft it? There's a lot of uncertainty surrounding it but I'm confident that it's safe to use."
"Why couldn't it be from the shadows?" Delilah asked confusedly.
"They cant write in scripture, it burns them. Have you ever noticed on the sides of doors how there is scripture going up the sides?" Delilah nodded diligently. "Those are there to prevent passage through the doorways."
Delilah looks surprised "I thought those were just apart of the decorations. Some of my friends paint scripture onto their clothes does that mean if they hugged a Shadowling the Shadowling would start burning?"
"If your friends are fast enough to catch a Shadowling, I don't think they need the scriptures at all they can just smush them." Red Jack said with a laugh "Alright Delilah, I need to get going. Feel free to bother some of my technicians."
Delilah smiled and said "Okay!" While nearly skipping out the room towards a Splitter in a gray uniform with black and purple highlight hair.
"Sorry Andrew... I can't keep that wild fire, company any longer" Red Jack said with a laugh while leaving the technician center.
