After arriving at the "base", Duan Fei and others conducted a check on the equipment such as the satellite system, radio station and computer. Since they were participating in a multi-person dual-machine competition, there were two radios in total, one of which was used as the main calling station, while the other was used as the coefficient station.
According to the contest rules, at any given time, no more than two different signal transmissions are allowed on the bands. Both transmitters can be used for communication with any station. A station can only make one contact per band regardless of which transmitter is used for the contact.
In fact, these debugging had been prepared long ago. To be on the safe side, Duan Fei and others re-checked the communication between the main console and the coefficient console, as well as the specific situation of the software interface, in case problems arise later, wasting time for temporary debugging.
Due to the long duration of the competition, they specified a relatively detailed check-in schedule. In addition to Duan Fei, Xu Wenle, Wu Bai and Yi Pengfei, several well-known "ham" players from Beijing also joined their team. It is expected that there will be eight or nine participants in total. These people are all core members of the Beijing Amateur Radio Hobbyist Club.
Apart from the main staff, there were several girls in charge of logistics, and Xu Wenjing also volunteered to join them. Of course, most of them just lent their names, and for most of the time, she would follow behind Zhong Yun introducing her to the entire competition process.
In short, this is a very large team. In order to accommodate so many people, the original engineering hut has been expanded to three times its original size. Fortunately, it's an engineering house, and expanding it is as simple as demolishing one wall and adding steel structural walls.
Compared with the grand momentum of the capital city, Lin Hong's place in Dongling City countryside seems a bit too deserted.
Lin Hong deliberately lay in bed for a few hours at night to rest and get into the best mental state for this competition, rather than doing things continuously like before.
He has also gradually mastered some techniques, although he still can't fall asleep, but he can quietly lie down or sit with his eyes closed to clear his mind, letting his thoughts empty out and his spirit enter a state of clarity. This kind of rest seems to be quite effective, as his frequent dizziness seems to have alleviated significantly.
At 6:00 Beijing time, Lin Hong opened his eyes on time, got out of bed and washed up, then started making breakfast at home.
This time he made a bit too much, in addition to his own and his father's portions, he also prepared the portion he was going to eat at noon.
The current temperature has cooled down, leaving half a day's time, and the food won't go bad.
What he made today was not porridge, but steamed rice. In the south, it's also common to eat rice with stir-fried eggs and some fermented tofu or pickled vegetables, which tastes very good.
When the meal was ready, his father Lin Changming also got up. He hastily ate breakfast and handed over a few words before rushing to the carton factory again. Recently, the factory had received another batch of orders, which had to be completed before the delivery deadline, and now there were not enough people, so he, as the factory director and technician, could only do more work.
For his own son, Lin Changming has been completely open-minded since the "negotiation" incident a few years ago. As Xu Lao said, this son is not ordinary, more mature than peers, and over-restriction may have an adverse impact on him.
Lin Hong glanced at the time and saw that it was already 7:42, with only 20 minutes left before the match started. He quickly picked up his lunchbox and hurried towards the waste recycling station.
It was already 7:55 when he arrived.
Lin Hong also took a break to use the restroom and then poured himself a cup of tea.
At 7:58, Lin Hong finally opened the radio calmly and slowly, put on his headphones, and began to tune the frequency to the North American competition frequency point of the 20-meter wave band. He heard the starting signal from that side very timely and clearly.
As it is a CW (equal-width telegraph) mode competition, the communication method used is Morse code signal, so everyone in the headphones hears "tick-tock" sounds of varying lengths.
Lin Hong first tuned the frequency band to 20 meters.
"Dit dit dit...dit dit...dit dit dit..." The wireless signal starts from the telegraph key, travels at the speed of light through the radio station, and is broadcast to the world through a 10-meter antenna, announcing that He Hong has officially started the competition!
At this moment, there are a lot of signals on the 20-meter band, forming a signal peak. However, possibly due to daytime, the background noise is also gradually increasing. Lin Hong began trying to receive signals directly without using his self-made "adaptive signal filter". The result was that only model "36" could be received, although it was barely possible, but the efficiency had to be greatly reduced.
He had no choice but to plug in his "signal filter", and a very clear ticking sound immediately came through the headphones.
Lin Hong soon established the first QSO (direct communication) after the competition with a ham in Hangzhou, and the other party was also a contestant. After exchanging signal reports with each other, they said "73" to end the communication.
It's that simple, both parties didn't waste any extra time dragging on other topics, they just confirmed the connection with each other and then went to find the next target, no beating around the bush.
The numerical code "73" is a colloquialism in the world of ham radio, signifying a friendly farewell. In fact, initially "73" was specifically used between couples as a blessing, representing "o you", but later its meaning gradually became blurred and it gradually changed from a lover's blessing to a vague expression of goodwill among hams.
In wireless communication, various signal shorthand codes are very common, which can greatly improve the efficiency of mutual communication.
Five minutes later, Lin Hong had already established 25 valid QSOs with other hams, except for one "foreign" in Hong Kong, the others were all domestic different districts. (Note: The country mentioned here does not refer to a political sense of country.)
According to regulations, China's amateur radio stations are divided into a total of ten zones 0-9. For example, Beijing belongs to Zone 1, while Xinjiang and Tibet belong to Zone 0.
Lin Hong was communicating with the ham radio while filling in the prepared contest log sheet with details such as call sign, time, band, frequency and so on.
This information must be mailed to the US CQ Magazine after participating in the competition, so Lin Hong remembered it very carefully, and wrote it in English, and in standard printed font.
