Chapter 23: A Calculated Encounter (Part 1)

Jiang Yan thought that perhaps life would have such a wonderful fate, and this fate was an accidental encounter for Ruan Jianglin.

For her, it was a painstaking calculation.

From Beicheng Road heading east for over a hundred kilometers is Kyoto.

Outside the car window, by the side of the highway intersection, a year-round evergreen camphor tree was planted. As the car moved forward, the trees retreated backward, and Jiang Yan stared blankly into the distance.

Kyoto, a city where various elites gather, people from all over the country and from all directions have their hearts set on coming here to make a name for themselves.

The sky here holds the longing for the future of strangers.

Some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, while others rise early and toil late, exhausting themselves without being able to sell their labor, suffering endless hardships, only to finally succumb to reality.

The sky gathered dark clouds, and it wasnt long ago that the clear blue sky suddenly turned gloomy.

Before long, it started pouring rain.

This bustling city, once a grand mansion of lights and fires, now appears somewhat dull and gloomy in the rain.

Jiang Yan touched her fingernails, remembering that when she left Beijing last year, the weather was just like this.

For more than a year, she had no contact with Yang Sifang, as if they had completely disappeared from each others lives.

The car drove through countless streams of traffic, from the city center further and further out into the suburbs, until it stopped in a famous rich villa area.

  Ruan Family Old House

The driver stopped the car and went to open the door for Tang Man first.

The rain was coming down heavily, and by the time I stepped out, the top half of my body was already soaked.

Three people sharing an umbrella is really too crowded, and the driver was almost entirely in the rain.

The umbrella in his hand was also deliberately tilted towards Tang Man, with Jiang Yans upper body exposed to the rain, and the rainwater seemed to be pouring down from head to toe.

Tang Man hugged her and led her into the umbrella.

It was not until they finally reached the entrance that both of them were almost soaked through.

Especially Jiangyan, her hair was stuck to the back of her neck, and rainwater dripped down from her eyelashes, wetting her eyes, as if a layer of fog had been placed over them.

Tang Mann handed her a handkerchief and let her wipe it, making her demeanor slightly improved.

Then, Tang Man took a deep breath before knocking on the door of the old mansion. The aunt in the courtyard heard the sound and came to open the door for her.

Aunt thought it was Ruan Jiang who came back, when she opened the door, she didnt expect it to be Tang Man, and also brought a girl.

Seeing the two getting drenched, he hastily invited them in first. The driver went to get their luggage again.

Tang Man politely asked first: "Auntie Li."

Aunt Li has been working at the Ruans house for many years, she is simple and honest, earlier than Tang Man, can be considered as a person who watched this child grow up.

Li Ayi walked ahead leading them, Jiang Yan and Tang Man walking side by side behind.

The Ruan familys mansion was not as luxurious and grand as I had imagined, it could even be said that it didnt look like a rich persons house at all, it was too low-key.

The only decent and elegant decoration style, unique in its own way. However, it just looks like a middle-class familys level, but unfortunately, the large floor area has an old-fashioned style.

There is a pool in the courtyard, and there is a fake hill in the center of the pool with some green moss on it.

Due to the heavy rain, the water inside was about to seep out at any moment.

Aunt Li didnt take Tang Man and the others to Lao Ren Jias place, this has become a consensus in the Ruan family, and Tang Man doesnt need to find trouble for herself by going there.

Its inevitable that well run into each other at mealtimes, living under the same roof. We cant avoid it, so I asked: "Aunt Li, has Uncle not come back yet?"

Jiang Yans heart skipped a beat, and her action of wiping her hair with a towel also came to an abrupt halt.

Aunt Li turned around, her eyes full of laughter that seemed to see through Tang Mans little thoughts: "Hes coming back, I originally heard him make a phone call to the old lady."

Just then, a horn sounded in the courtyard, honking several times.

It goes without saying that only the spoiled young master of the Ruan family would dare to drive his car into the courtyard.

In the courtyard are planted old ladys vegetables and flowers, as well as a pond of fish carefully raised by the old man, and next to it is a bird cage.

The old man always says that those cars pollute the air, and hes afraid that the tires will crush the flowers and vegetables, and hes also afraid that the car horns will scare away the birds in the yard.

So everyone in our family parks their cars outside and doesnt drive them in anymore.

Ke Ren Jiang has always been a person who only considers others for his own convenience.

As expected, the sound of cars came soon, and the birds in the yard started chirping loudly. In between, there were a few orioles, their voices drawn out long and loud, hurting peoples ears.

The heavy rain didnt scare them, but they were startled by the sound of Ruan Jiangs car.

Auntie Li hurriedly came out to give the bird a place to perch and change its nest.

These birds were Grandpas treasured pets, and he said this was an ideal place for raising them.

She held the bird cage and muttered: "Bird babies, someone more noble than you has returned, youd better behave yourselves, or that person will get unhappy and stew you all in a pot!"

He took a glance and then went in nonchalantly. The old lady heard the sound from upstairs and knew he had arrived.

She hastily turned off the TV in her bedroom and came down to see her precious grandson.

The old man also came down, but with a look of displeasure on his face, he was unhappy that Ruan Jianglin had scared his bird.

With Yan Jiang returning, Tang Man had no reason to continue hiding inside and not come out.

Jiang Yan was still changing clothes, so she went out and called out a greeting first.

The two old mens faces fell as soon as they saw her, especially the old man, whose face was even worse than before.

After all, he used to be a leader, and when his face turned gloomy, it made peoples hearts tremble with fear.

Tang Man was so scared that she couldnt calm down. Ruan Jiang finally spoke up: "Youre back, I originally said Id go pick you up myself."

He restrained himself for a moment, and his eyebrows still carried a hint of helplessness.

Tang Man thought, this little uncle of hers was really shameless, and even the roundabout words shouldnt be said like that.

The old man has always been strict at home, and Ruan Zhenhua is even more so by looking at his fathers face to do things.

Only that second-generation ancestor can still play jokes with an unchanged heart and face.

The old ladys face softened a bit, "I heard the driver say earlier that you brought a friend back, let him come down to eat in a while. Hiding in the house and thinking that our Ruan family cant even give people a meal, what kind of talk is that!"

Tang Man lowered her head and looked at her feet, nodding slightly.

Ruan Jiang couldnt help but laugh at her rarely obedient appearance and told her to go upstairs.

Tang Man went upstairs when Jiang Yan had already finished cleaning up and was standing in front of the window staring at something.

She found that Jiangyan had not been quite right for the past two days, always staring at something and starting to daydream. She even sent a WeChat message to Gu Jiaming asking if it was because their professional summer homework was too tiring, so that Jiangyan felt too much pressure?

It turned out that people said there was no summer homework at all.

Tang Man thought, was it herself who had been too melancholic these past few days, not letting Jiang Yan feel the warmth of the invitation, not giving her a sense of being welcome, to the point where Jiang Yan felt unwelcome?
