Chapter Eighty-two: The Half-elfs Placement

Li You Ran's words made the half-elves feel relieved at the same time, but also started to worry. What did Li You Ran mean? They didn't quite understand, to put it bluntly, they were just a bunch of useless people who had been raised by Morton, and Morton's methods weren't quite right, resulting in no one being able to help him, with only one person struggling to support the entire tribe.

"Where's our clan leader? He didn't say anything about this when he brought us here!" Someone inside began to stir up trouble.

"Don't call me that, Morton has already become my guardian and is no longer your clan leader. I've promised him to let you live freely here, in fact, you have hands and feet, so there's no need for Morton to serve you, unless you're lazy, otherwise it's impossible to go hungry on my territory, the choice is yours."

Li You Ran crossed his arms and looked at the various whispers inside, in his ears it was like having a loudspeaker, these half-elves were spoiled rotten, they actually discussed bringing Morton back with them, the most infuriating thing was that they said even if there was no food in the future, they could let Morton come here to borrow some food, anyway they didn't have to pay it back, and they didn't have to work either, how relaxing, why bother going out to work and be controlled by others.

Li You Ran couldn't help but laugh coldly, almost spitting it out. After discussing enough, an old man came out as the representative and said: "Lord, please let our clan leader come out, we have something to say to him."

"What are you talking about! Morton is now mine, what's there to say to me." Li You Ran would not let them meet Morton of course.

"This, please let the elder take us back to the forest, half-elves are free. We revere nature and do not wish to stay in human cities for long, that makes us feel uneasy. We would rather return to the forest, even if it means being with wild beasts."

They talk about embracing nature and loving freedom, but it's just an excuse. In the end, they're just used to others being busy with their lives, so they don't have to think about anything themselves.

"Alright! Morton has already taken care of my guard, if you want to go back, please do so, and consider this meal on the house, I won't charge you." Li You Ran stepped aside, indicating that they could leave.

"But, but how are we supposed to get back without the clan leader? There's no one to escort us on the road, and there's no dry rations either. Are we supposed to starve our way back? If that's the case, how many of us will survive?" The old man said angrily, not showing any sign of guilt, as if it was a matter of course for him to be busy for their lives, born to find food for them.

"Scoff~ I've said it before, are you all cripples? Don't you have hands and feet? Without Morton, would you all not be alive? Wherever you go, wherever you stay, if you don't find something to do, diligent people won't starve to death, they'll live very well. Lazy people can forget about getting any help. I'll give you a sentence: relying on others is not as good as relying on oneself, heaven helps those who help themselves. Think about it, if it weren't for these burdens like you, would Morton be living so bitterly? One by one, shamelessly holding the title of clan leader, asking others to fight for their own lives... Ugh, what kind of thing are you all? Alright, my words are finished, how you choose is up to yourselves." Li You Ran had a whole new understanding of some people's shamelessness.

Li You Ran finished speaking, but a disagreement arose within the half-elf group. Some people scolded Mo Dun, thinking that as the tribe's leader, he shouldn't have abandoned his own people just because he found a good opportunity for himself and completely forgot about his tribe members. Others thought Li You Ran was right, it was indeed they who were holding back their leader.

"I told you so, don't come out. See, I said Morten wanted to get rid of us all along. As soon as we came out, he dumped us and went off to have fun on his own. Who cares about us now?"

This is what the guy who didn't want to come out at first said.

"Shut up, I think what he said makes sense. I've had enough of you guys a long time ago. Every time we go hunting, you're not there, either because you're sick or for some inexplicable reason you're injured. I've figured it out, you're just holding us back. I'm staying here, where I can live freely. I don't want to go back to the forest."

This is the voice of Morton's trained hunters and druids, who have the deepest feelings for Morton and are fully supportive of him. Their words indeed moved some people, mostly young half-elves, while only a few elderly half-elves opposed it. Alas, the trend has already gone, and they can only helplessly watch as the half-elves unanimously vote to stay.

They didn't think of leaving themselves, but staying here is safe after all. Going back to the forest, haha they don't dare to.

Li You Ran heard them finish their discussion and a faint smile appeared at the corner of her mouth, the matter was settled.

"Lord, you're absolutely right. People should indeed rely on themselves, and we have hands and feet, so it's true that we shouldn't be a burden to the clan leader. The title of clan leader is an honor, existing for the purpose of protecting everyone's safety, not becoming a burden to the clan leader. We've decided to stay behind, what do you think we can do?"

A young man with a clear face came out and said to Li You Ran.

Li You Ran smiled and said, "Not bad, young man, I have high hopes for you. There's a lot of work to be done here, of course the better-paying jobs require some ability, such as being a guard, your clan leader is my head of security. If you think you have what it takes, you can apply, and if you're not confident in your abilities, there are still many opportunities. You've seen my castle, it's huge, right? It needs a lot of servants, so there are plenty of chances to find work. And if you have any special skills, you can even set up your own little stall, that way you'll always be able to fill your belly."

Some people who were confident in their own abilities looked at each other, they were very interested in the job of guarding, and the clan leader was also there, so the treatment must be good. Those who didn't have much ability had already lost hope, but when they heard that the castle was recruiting a large number of servants, they felt like an opportunity had come. Some people who could save tanning also thought it would be a good idea to set up a small stall, and some were even discussing cooperation.

Those who were used to being taken care of by Morton also began to waver, not that they were wavering, but Morton was no longer the naive little guy he used to be and could no longer deceive them in the name of the old castle owner. They had no choice but to find their own way out.

Actually, there are some things that these guys didn't say, which is that the old city master only gave Morton a fixed transformation technique at first, because he had already seen that the half-elves in this half-elf city were completely relying on him.
