Chapter Twenty-Four: Kill Her

The sun well was just ahead. In the moonlight reflected in the water of the well, there were two dark shadows, Asa knew that they were the leaves of the world tree.

The divine power of the Sun Well can shake any living being, making them feel a soul-born fear and dread outside the forest. Even if someone forces their way into the forest, the hundreds of withered wooden guards on the outskirts will launch a merciless attack without warning. Moreover, in the elves' great culture, the Sun Well and the leaves of the World Tree were originally an inseparable whole, and they never thought of taking the leaves out from inside.

Asa was worried about another effect of the Sun Well. Under its influence, no one except the Spirit Tribe could use magic in the forest. That's why the Red Cloaks only dared to enter the forest during meals. The knife had fallen on the grass outside the forest, and now even magic couldn't be used, making him completely unarmed.

But he absolutely cannot wait for the next Golden Ring Food, which is said to be 130 years later. In any case, today's opportunity is quite good, at least the hundred or so withered wooden guards cleared by the red-robed man have not been replenished yet.

The large area around that was originally scorched earth has grown small trees over a person tall, and the grass on the ground has also grown. A few days ago, Asa saw Elder Kran use two leaves of the World Tree to hold water from the Sun Well and sprinkle it on the ground. New buds and grass rushed out of the scorched earth one after another. According to Luya, the burned area and the withered wooden guards can be completely restored in just a month.

Under the bright moonlight, Asa could see that among the saplings, there were quite a few withered branches stuck in the ground. Those thin and twisted trunks had no leaves on them, as if they were malnourished. But just one month later, they would become those gigantic creatures that stood five or six people tall, capable of crushing a person like a mouse underfoot.

As he approached the Sun Well, he only discovered that almost all of the surrounding trees were withered and guarded by saplings. Thinking about the scene before it was burned down, he couldn't help but feel a chill run down his spine, and suddenly felt that the red-robed man was worthy of respect. If not for his fire, sneaking in like this in the middle of the night would probably have ended with him becoming a meat pie or a pile of minced meat.

Asa picked up a leaf from the well. He knew it was a treasure, but he could only use one, and carrying something unnecessary would undoubtedly be trouble for himself.

Under the moonlight, it's impossible to see the original shocking color of these leaves, but just by feeling, you can sense a kind of green, as if a breath of life is emanating from above. Asa could tell that this was probably not actually a leaf, as there were no veins on its surface, and the entire leaf blade and stem were seamlessly integrated. Holding what was said to be a divine object, he felt an inexplicable thrill in his heart, and his fingertips were trembling slightly.

"What are you doing?" A bright and gentle voice like moonlight sounded from behind.

Asa turned around like a leopard whose buttocks had been suddenly stabbed with an icicle and pounced out, the opponent didn't have any reaction time before being pressed to the ground and having his throat clutched.

A head of silver hair spread out on the ground, reflecting the moonlight in the sky, and her clear beauty was set off without a single speck of dust, it was the spirit girl Rua.

  Kill her.

This was the first thought that emerged in Asa's mind. The tense atmosphere made his thoughts smell of blood.

Her slender neck was within his tight grasp. The feeling was delicate, fine, soft, as if with just a bit more force it could be easily snapped in two.

Her treehouse was just near where Asa had passed by, and she probably came to see what the commotion was about. Her excessive simplicity made her unguarded, not thinking of notifying other spirits at all, while Asa was attracted by the leaves of the World Tree and didn't notice her approach at all.

No matter what, absolutely cannot let other elves know. Elder Cran said that their noble elves despise violence and will not use it unless absolutely necessary. But this situation is no longer a last resort, but a thousand times more desperate than that. These two leaves of the World Tree are their only remaining sacred objects, and they still have the power of their Sun Wells within their own bodies.

Aza had seen the elves practicing archery. Any of them could string two apples together with an arrow shot from a longbow at a hundred meters away. If they startled other elves, even if one was as agile as a wild leopard, they would become hedgehogs before running out of the forest.

She should have been killed indeed.

One of Asa's hands grasped her long, thin hands and pressed them to the ground, his foot also pressing down on hers, his body tightly pinning hers. She struggled with all her might, but despite her strength not matching her slender limbs, she couldn't budge at all.

Her face gradually began to reveal a faintly painful expression under the moonlight, this pain and anger mixed together, making her ascetic face transform into a vivid and gorgeous one.

The two people's bodies were pressed tightly together, and they could even feel each other's body heat.

The hand on her throat could feel her desperately gasping for air, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't break through the pressure on her throat. The muscles in her chest, even through her corset, could be felt pounding as her heartbeat quickened, and Asa knew that if it went any faster, a few more spasms would stop it forever.

Her beautiful face began to contort, and the beating of her heart was already at its limit. Asa suddenly felt a strong urge to let go.

Don't let go! Along with her exhalation is an absolute shout that can summon all the spirits.

Her slender body suddenly convulsed violently, almost breaking free from Asa's restraint, and then went limp. Like a device that had been overwound and suddenly snapped its most important spring.

Asa sprang from her as if he had been electrified.

She was completely still, the struggling expression on her face had also disappeared, and the moonlight made her originally pale skin appear deathly pale.

  Asa suddenly felt like vomiting.

No. She shouldn't be dead, maybe she's just in shock. Asa took a deep breath and calmed down.

To be on the safe side, it would be better to continue being very sure about her...

A Sa exerted herself to shake her head. It shouldn't be necessary, and after being shocked like that, it might take some time for her to wake up. Looking at her slender figure, she probably wasn't in good physical condition, let alone the fact that she might have already...

A Sa picked up the world tree leaf on the ground and ran towards the outskirts of the forest.

But he had just run out of the clearing when he heard Luya's voice echoing from far behind. "Everyone come out, that human has stolen a leaf from the World Tree." Her physical strength was apparently much better than Asa thought.

A Sa's mood was complex and he scolded fiercely, speeding up his pace.

In the depths of the forest, the unicorn's cry has already sounded, and the elves' residential area is also starting to bustle. In this quiet forest, all sounds can travel very far, including his running footsteps.

His legs' muscles had been stretched to the limit, and he was so fast that it seemed like he could lose his balance at any moment. Asa was desperately sprinting through the forest, he had already entered the outer edge of the forest, and as long as he had more than two miles left, he would be able to escape.

A withered wooden guardian was already in sight ahead, and as he charged forward, it raised its massive foot to stomp down on him. Asa didn't dodge, didn't stop, didn't even change his actions, still charging forward with his head down, towards the giant branch that was about to crush him into a pulp. He didn't dare stop, for he could already hear the sound of horseshoes behind him.

He could clearly feel the wind pressure generated by the dry wood guardian's footstep on his back, and several splashing mud blocks hit his back. His speed was a little faster than the reaction of these wooden bumps, just enough to rush past before stepping on him.

But Asa didn't feel happy at all. The moonlight was bright, and he could see clearly that a row of withered wooden stakes had been set up in front of him as sentinels. The sound of horseshoes behind him grew clearer, no matter how fast he ran, two legs would never be faster than four hooves.

The withered tree guardian in front of him slowly raised its branch-like hand, bent down and patted it down towards him.

Good opportunity. Asa, who was running urgently, suddenly knelt down with both hands on the ground and rolled over just as a huge palm slapped down in front of him. The palm hit right in front of Asa's face, and several small twigs at the end brushed against his face, causing a burning pain.

The sound of horseshoes was almost at his back. Asa didn't dare to turn around, he plunged forward and grabbed the palm of the withered wood guardian. The withered wood guardian lifted his hand again, bringing Asa up together. Several withered wood guardians on the side had already surrounded him, stretching out their giant palms towards Asa in mid-air.

Asa's hands and feet moved in unison, and with a few swift motions, he leapt onto the shoulder of this withered wooden guardian. Several muffled thuds followed as the withered wooden guardian's hand was battered into pulp by several other withered wooden guardians, sending shattered branches flying everywhere.

Before he could even catch his breath, several giant palms came slapping down from the branches above. Asa didn't have time to think this time and leapt towards the back of the withered wood guardian. A loud crash followed, and the head of the withered wood guardian was smashed into pieces by its companions.

Just as he had jumped over the withered tree trunks and fallen to the ground, a few unicorns had already circled around in front of him. These animals were quite spiritual and knew that he was trying to escape, so they circled around to block his way.

If he hesitated any longer, the spirits would close in again and it would be even more difficult to deal with. Asa charged forward, meeting the unicorn. The unicorns lowered their heads, using the sharp horns on their foreheads to charge at him as well.

Unable to retreat or dodge, Asa's spirit concentrated, the clarity of meditation appeared, and he could feel every muscle in his body, even the momentum of the unicorn in front seemed clear.

He continued to charge forward, and at the moment when he was about to touch the unicorn, he stretched out his hand and pressed it on the unicorn's forehead. At the same time, he jumped up with all his might, retracted his waist, and his body borrowed the unicorn's momentum to make a big forward somersault.

Just as he was in mid-air, his face only half a meter away from the unicorn's horn, the horn suddenly burst out with a fierce white light.

Asa let out a pained cry, still airborne as he sailed over the few remaining unicorns, but when he landed, it was with a heavy thud that sent a searing white light flashing before his eyes, which then went completely black.

He couldn't see anything, but he got up and rushed forward again. Unfortunately, after running for a few steps, he felt himself falling into a cage made of wood, and then was lifted into the air.

Cran Eldrid led the sprites who had followed him up. From a distance, he saw Asa rush into the palm of a withered wooden guardian lying on the ground like a headless fly, and then was lifted up. The other hand of the withered wood guardian also closed immediately, and he was about to be pinched into a pile of flesh.

Klan Elder sprinted forward with all his might. There was still untapped Solar Spring power within this human body, and he couldn't let him die here. These withered wooden guards didn't have any intelligence, they were simply attacking the intruder in the forest out of instinct, and he had to rescue him quickly.

Asa strained with all his might against the enormous force pressing in from both sides. The muscles of his shoulders and chest were engorged to the point where they seemed about to burst, and the skin on his thighs was stretched taut by the swelling power beneath. But fortunately, the dry wood guardian's hands were slowly prying open the branch forks.

The pressure around him suddenly surged, and the overwhelming force instantly exceeded the limit that his muscles could withstand. His arms and legs, which were still holding on, were suddenly squeezed back, and the branches stuck to various parts of his body, pressing inward, even squeezing out all the air in his lungs, making it impossible for him to make a sound.

Kalan elder looked ahead at the several withered wooden guards who had gathered together, like a few children scrambling to touch a new toy, afraid of falling behind and pressing their hands on the object in the middle hand.
