Chapter Twenty-Five: Ran Away

He heard his bones creaking for the first time. The bent limbs and joints could no longer support the muscles to exert force, but were constantly squeezed by the surrounding branches.

Every gap between the parts of the body has disappeared, and the pressure around is still increasing. The blood in the body can no longer bear this torture, finding a breakthrough from the thin blood vessels in the nostrils to rush out with joy. The eyes also seem to have been inspired, trying hard to break free from the constraints of the eye sockets. The lungs have squeezed out the last bit of air and are now trying to squeeze themselves out.

I can feel my body's transformation has gone beyond the physical realm. In this state, there is no room for any display of fighting spirit or willpower, no matter how hard you think or try to rush forward, your limbs are still there, unable to move in the slightest.

The pressure around him was still increasing, not only pressing in on the middle but also rubbing and grinding from left to right and up and down. His muscles and bones were already starting to feel an excruciating pain, and his mind flashed back to the mangled corpses of the soldiers he had seen a few days ago. He knew that he would soon become like them too. A hysterical fear immediately spread through every corner of his brain like wildfire, mingling with the pain inside him, surging left and right, gathering all the energy that could be mobilized in his body, and with the instinct of an animal's final struggle, a fireball burst out.

It's too late. Elder Cran saw that the hands of those withered tree guards had already formed a large ball of branches. The branches squeezed and ground against each other, making an unpleasant creaking sound in the silence of the forest. He stopped his footsteps in disappointment, even the strongest bull would only be crushed into shattered bones and beef slices in this branch mill.

A sudden deafening crash shook the entire forest. The withered wooden guards surrounding the heap suddenly burst open, burning branches flying everywhere, and two of the withered wooden guards' bodies were also set ablaze, the raging flames illuminating the forest.

Asa fell down from the center of the explosion and heavily hit the ground. However, he immediately got up stumbling and continued to run forward in a staggering manner.

"It's impossible." Elder Cran stood rooted to the spot, watching as several withered wooden guardians flailed their armless limbs in pursuit of Asa, who was fleeing in disarray. This forest was shrouded in the divine power of the Sun Well, and no one except for the spirits that grew around the Sun Well could use magic.

He watched Asa running away in front of him. When he first got up from the ground, he was still stumbling, but after running a few steps, his body emitted a blue-white recovery magic glow, and he gradually ran faster and even flew like a swallow.

Klan Elder understood. Although he didn't want to admit it, the human and the residual power of the Sun Well in his body had merged, which not only allowed him to use magic in the forest but also made his magic power increase exponentially due to the divine power covering the entire forest.

He must not be allowed to escape with the World Tree Leaf. That is the only hope against darkness, and it is the sacred mission of this noble race. He will be stopped by any means necessary, even if violence is used.

Kalan the elder raised his bow, drew an arrow from the quiver on his back. He strung the bow, set the arrow in place, and pulled the string taut; the flint arrowhead began to glow with a faint yellow light.

The bowstring was full, and the arrowhead had become a dazzling yellow light ball. Almost as soon as he let go of his hand, the light ball immediately transformed into a yellow light that extended to the back of Asa, who was running forward, and the magical power contained in it burst out instantly.

A violent explosion sent the unicorns that were chasing him dodging to the side, and the shockwave even knocked over a withered wooden guardian that was approaching. The human who was running away was blown flying like a dry leaf, but after landing, he only knelt down for a slight gasp before jumping up again, full of energy, and continuing to run.

Watching his full-force blow have no effect, Kuran Elder shouted out in surprise and anger, completely losing the elegance of a high-ranking spirit: "Kill him for me."

The wind howled in his ears, and the scenery on both sides flew backward. Asa almost had an urge to dance with joy while shouting and running. In front of him, several withered wooden guards approached. Asa didn't dodge or evade, opening his palms and continuing to charge forward.

A mass of intense flames, larger than his body, gathered in front of him, bringing a scorching heat wave that seemed to want to burst through the forest, tearing apart the air that dared to block its way, and roaring towards the withered wooden guardian in front.

An explosion that shook and trembled the entire forest, even Asa himself was knocked to the ground by the blast. Only a few withered wooden guards were left standing there, burning from the waist down, like giant torches, and the sky was filled with flying burning wood blocks, illuminating the area as if it were daytime. Asa got up from the ground, looked at this magnificent achievement, excitedly shouted and continued to run forward.

The golden power within him resonated with the entire forest, and he clearly felt that the distant sun well behind him was emitting waves of fluctuations that permeated the air in the forest. Every time he used magic, this intense resonance increased the effect of the magic by tens of times. The blow to his back just now had originally injured him severely, but as soon as he used a healing spell, he immediately became vigorous and powerful again.

A long arrow whizzed past his ear, and the elves began to shoot. Asa hastily pulled up his cloak to cover his head. The arrows flew towards him as densely as raindrops, and after running for a dozen or so steps, he had already been hit by twenty or thirty arrows, but the arrows could not penetrate this cloak at all.

Behind him, the sound of horseshoes echoed again. Asa turned around and threw out a fireball. Amidst the explosion, the unicorn's scream was heard, several were blown up, and the others were knocked down by the blast wave.

With a casual wave of his hand, a fireball flew out and turned a withered wooden guardian on the side into a huge flame. Amidst the deafening explosion he had created and the sky filled with flames, he darted back and forth, ignoring the hail of arrows pouring down behind him. He felt as if he had almost become the master of the entire forest. Asa was almost looking forward to new wooden guardians appearing in front of him; those wooden lumps that used to make his heart skip a beat now seemed as fragile as paper. He felt like he'd never had so much fun.

Of course, he had to keep running away. He didn't dare turn his head back and expose his face to the elves' shooting, nor did he dare wait slowly for all the withered wood guards in the forest to gather together. He still remembered the array of people beside the red robe a few days ago.

Judging from the distance, he should be close to the edge of the forest. Suddenly, a wall formed by dozens of withered trees appeared in front of him. Although these tree stumps seemed to have no thoughts, they had a kind of mutual understanding and gathered towards the direction he was escaping, forming an encirclement. Behind them, the grassland where he came from could already be seen. Asa was so excited that he almost shouted out loud.

Just blow up the wooden stake in front of him and he can escape. He waved his hand again, and another fireball came out, but this time it was only half the size of the previous one, and it only blew off the head of a withered wood guardian, while the others remained intact.

Asha stopped, and only then did he feel that the magical power that had been surging inside him earlier was now showing signs of drying up. The fluctuations of the Sun's Well in the air had weakened a lot, and in fact, as he moved away from the Sun's Well, this resonant power had been weakening all along, but he hadn't noticed it at all, completely absorbed in his own majesty.

With that brief pause, the dozen or so unicorns behind immediately caught up and dispersed to his left and right. Probably fearing accidental injury to them, the elves also stopped shooting arrows.

He stood in the circle, looking around left and right, shaking his sharp unicorn horn. These clever animals did not rush to attack him, but carefully surrounded him at a distance of more than ten meters. They were waiting for the elf army behind. The withered wooden guards in front began to approach here.

Can't wait for those wooden guards to come and trample themselves into meat patties, nor can they wait here for the spirits to catch up. Even if they are again rigid and bound by their vulgar violent culture, they will never give themselves another chance to escape. Asa suddenly remembered hearing about various methods of dealing with escaped prisoners, cutting off tendons in hands and feet, passing iron chains through the collarbone... then this life can only be spent crawling like a maggot in a dark, damp dungeon waiting for death...

He suddenly fell from the emotional peak of being invincible to being surrounded and unable to move, the strong contrast making him flustered. The freedom that was already within sight made his heart feel like it was being bitten and scratched by thousands of cats.

That patch of grassland was just ahead, only a few dozen meters away, reflecting the free moonlight flatly. He knew from Rouya's mouth that these withered wooden guards were active thanks to the power of the sun well and could not leave this forest. As long as he left the range of this forest, his hope of escape would greatly increase.

How can he rush through these dozens of meters? Asa carefully looked around, vigilantly watching his unicorn, and understood that the trick used to cross these unicorns for the first time would not work again. In this situation, being blinded by that strong light was equivalent to death, but it was also impossible to close his eyes and crash into that dangerous horn. And in front of him were dozens of withered wooden guards who had become tall and majestic again, making his heart tremble with fear.

Like a starving beggar searching his pockets in front of a bakery. Asa carefully raised every corner of his body, but no matter how hard he tried, there were only two or three fireballs left of magical power. It was impossible to blow up those dozens of withered wooden guards, and even the unicorns in front of him might not be able to handle it.

How to blast? Blast where? Asa's brain quickly imagined how to rush out of this encirclement, but no matter what, the result was either being blinded by the unicorns and stabbed through or rushing over to be trampled into a meat pie by the withered wood guards.

What to do what to do what to do what to do...... The elves are almost here, where to explode who to explode how to explode.....

He suddenly thought of an almost absurd and very dangerous method.

But now, even the most absurd method is better than having no method at all. Even if there's only a 1% chance of success, not doing anything means you don't even have that 1%.

He crouched down, bent his legs, and then shot a fireball at the ground while jumping up with great force.

A loud crash. The shockwave from the fireball explosion and the jumping force combined, he directly jumped over the unicorn's encirclement and flew up.

The muscles in his buttocks and thighs were all numb from the shock, Asa saw himself flying towards the face of a withered wooden guardian. He knew that if he hit it, he would be done for, even if he didn't die or get smashed to death, he would only be trampled to death.

He calculated the angle in mid-air, stretched out his hand towards his own buttocks and concentrated all the remaining magical force to release a fireball.

He didn't have time to feel the shockwave's impact on his ears. The arm that had thrown the fireball was dislocated at almost every joint from shoulder to elbow to wrist to fingers, and nearly came off entirely. He suspected the muscles in his buttocks and thighs were completely ruined, to the point where he couldn't even feel any pain.

Like a ball thrown out, spinning and rolling with sparks in the air, it flew over the heads of the withered wooden guards, and Asa finally fulfilled his wish to fly out of the forest and fell into that piece of free grassland.

The impact of the fall made him feel like his entire skeleton had been shattered, and he rolled out a long way before coming to a stop, lying there with stars in his eyes like a dead man, barely having enough energy left to breathe. Next to him was half a corpse that the zombies had left behind that day. It seemed like no one had come here for a while, as the stench of the zombies' leftovers filled the air on the grass.

A Sa knew he had succeeded and failed.

He did manage to escape, but he was completely unable to run anymore and could only move one hand. As long as the spirits came over, they could pick him up like a dead pig and take him back.

He suddenly saw his knife not far in front of him, and he used every part of his body that could move to try to get himself over there. Even though he knew it was already useless to pick it up, he still wanted to hold it in his hand. He no longer hoped to escape, but just a gesture out of desperation. I couldn't wait to be slaughtered by others.

But after a while, only the neighing of the unicorn and the quarreling of the elves could be heard, but there was no movement at all. Asa barely turned his head back to see that the elves and the unicorn were standing at the edge of the forest, pacing back and forth, but didn't come out to catch him. A few unicorns stepped out of the forest a few steps, as if they had smelled the strong stench on the grass, and then turned around and ran back.

Asa burst out laughing, laughed a few times and coughed, coughing while laughing. He had heard from Luya that their elf tribe had not stepped out of this forest for tens of thousands of years, which was also the rule of their clan, but he never thought they would be so stubborn and dull to such an extent.

Those unicorns, after all, were just beasts. Once they left the feeling of being shrouded in the warmth of the sun for a lifetime, they would immediately feel strange and afraid. In the forest, they were so brave in dealing with zombies, but now they see the elf alliance hesitating and their hearts are filled with fear, and this smell alone scares them off.

A figure of a spirit seemed about to rush out, seemingly Luoya, but the elder Cran beside her grabbed her and scolded her a few words.

Asa calmed down and slowly recovered a bit of magical power, barely using a healing spell on his own legs. Away from the influence of the Sun Well, his spell effects returned to their usual poor level. However, fortunately, the injuries to his legs were not too severe, and after using magic, he could move again with difficulty.

The elves watched with wide eyes as Asa laughed and rolled away towards the forest on the other side. They began to discuss fiercely whether or not to break the clan rule that had been crystal clear for tens of thousands of years. After a while, when Luoya led several elves to chase after him into the forest on the other side, Asa was already gone.
