Chapter 37- Protecting the caravan

The first few days of travel were fairly unremarkable. The caravan wasn't attacked and the weather was quite nice during that time. I just spend most of my time sitting down in the back of a wagon without bothering anyone. I took advantage of the opportunity in order to practice my space magic. I got a bit better at teleporting things, so that was nice.

Nix, in the other hand, took opportunity to talk with the merchants. From what she told me, she would've talked with those three elven adventurers too, but they seemed to be avoiding the both of us.

She passed most of the information that she had obtained during those conversations to me. The merchants mostly talked about rumors that weren't really helpful, but there were some useful things in there too. For example, she managed to learn about what made the Holy Kingdom of Sanctus holy.

According to the Church of Light, which was the main religious authority around here, this nd was visited by a deity called the Great Light Wyrm thousands of years ago. Apparently, it was an otherwordly being who had come here to repel an unnatural darkness from the void. After saving the world, it left, never to be seen again.

The Church of Light was founded after the departure of this god in order to forever remember the help that it had given to all of us. Well, that's what they cimed at least. Nix and I didn't really know enough to say if that story was accurate or not.

Anyways, we did very few interesting things during the first three days of travel apart from learning some mildly interesting information. Nix wasn't bored thanks to having plenty of people to talk to and I didn't really mind having a bit of peace and quiet.

Sure, Camity's mansion was safe, but it was absolutely not quiet.

After those three days, however, something did happen. I was sitting in the back of the same wagon as usual when I heard the sound of an explosion which caused the horses to stop.

  "What's going on?" (Nix)

"I think that we are under attack. We should probably go check it out, it's kind of our of job." (Dragonfly)

Running to the front of the caravan, we quickly saw the issue. There were about ten bandits fighting against the other adventurers. To their credit, the three elves were holding their own quite well considering the fact that they were heavely outnumbered.

To be fair, they had to be at least D-rank to join this mission, so them having some level of competence was to be expected. Their level of intelligence clearly wasn't where that competence came from, so they had to be good at something.

"Nix, take the ones on the right, I'll handle the left." (Dragonfly)

Taking my sword out of storage, I ran up to one of the bandits that were fighting the elven warrior. For some reason, my opponent didn't seem to see me as a threat. I thought that the fact that I was running at him at high speed would have been enough to scare him, but it wasn't, apparently.

He even had the audacity to look surprised when I cut him in half. Seriously, why was no one taking me seriously until I either fought them or activated my title to scare them? It was really annoying.

Fortunately, it seemed like my performance had been enough to get our assaints to take me seriously. Unfortunately, that meant that three of them began attacking me. That was inconvenient, to say the least.

Draconic breath fried one of them on the spot. I managed to dispatch another one with a well-pced fireball shortly after. The st bandit was quite a bit stronger, however. As far as I could tell from his fancier outfit, he was probably the leader of those outws. I didn't really pn on asking him about it, tho.

I tried striking at his neck, but he managed to parry my attack with his own sword. He didn't really seem to be struggling either. The bandit countered by swinging his bde with surprising speed. I wasn't about to be defeated that easely, however. I backed out of the range of his attack before covering my sword in fire to boost it's power.

That wasn't needed, however. The bandit leader kind of had Nix's bde poking through his chest. Looking around, I saw that the elves were also done with their fights.

"Thanks for the assist, Nix." (Dragonfly)

"We win! Take that, you evil bad guys!" (Nix)

Now, looking at the bandit's purses, I realised that there were probably a good amount of coins in there. Looting the corpse of a sentient being was kind of disgusting, but at the same time, shinies were shinies.

Yeah, I ended up grabbing the purses of all of the bandits that I had defeated along with the purses that Nix had brought to me from her own kills. Adding everything together, the value of the coins reached a bit under four gold.

  Yeah, that was worth it.
