Chapter 40: Unfortunately, Kaylus was an exception

Kaius will be back later, she has to hurry back to cook dinner.

Coming out of Dawn's restaurant, Cynthia was blocked by Mei on her way home.

She stood at the staircase entrance, her expression still as anxious as last time.

Xin Xia knew that Mei had no ill intentions towards her, and was even very loyal to her master. Xin Xia felt helpless, "Mei, Kael doesn't want to get involved in this matter, it's useless for you to find him."

"I'll wait here for the adults to come." Mei didn't seem to hear, her pointed ears drooping down, looking stubborn and listless.

Cynthia sighed and stood in front of her with a bamboo basket, saying solemnly: "You know what happened to the stone wall this morning?"

"He killed a vampire who broke the law." Mei didn't care about this matter, "This thing has spread to DC already."

"That's right, the vampires broke the law and crossed his bottom line, so they were burned to death, but the disappearance of the Elf King did not affect Kaythus." Cynthia pulled her arm to drag him a little further away.

"The giant in your mouth has not invaded Tamolia, so he won't care, and you're just waiting here for nothing."

It's not an exaggeration to say that Kyrios is selfish. Unlike Kaminari, he doesn't have a proactive and helpful personality.

At least in Cynthia's heart, the God of Light will always be a great image of righteousness and health.

Cynthia gazed at the sky's vibrant colors and her tone suddenly shifted to pleading, "I still want to live, don't drag me down."

Mei fell silent for a moment, her kind nature finally making her give up the idea of struggling here. Her tone couldn't hide her sadness, "Perhaps there are some clues that I missed."

  She turned and left.

Looking at her slightly desolate back, Cynthia's expression gradually became calm.

She didn't want to get involved in something that could easily get out of her control.

Moreover, the lifespan of the Elf tribe is very long, let alone the king who is equivalent to a demigod. He was still alive and well in her lifetime.

The Elf King may be in danger, but he will absolutely not die.

  Someone will save him.

Cynthia carried a bamboo basket back home.

Put all the ingredients brought back from the restaurant in the kitchen, and also put the invitation on a conspicuous position on the round table, to ensure that Kayser can see it at a glance when he comes back, then she goes to cook.

It may not be as good as those aristocratic servants' craftsmanship, but it will never be bad enough to be inedible.

A salmon and refined flour made white bread with pan-fried pork, pickled meat and olives inside.

Of course, Cynthia thought this way of making sandwiches was still quite fresh here.

The sky outside had completely darkened, and a fire rose up in the fireplace.

  Caius has not arrived yet.

Cynthia was a little skeptical whether he would stand her up or not, but thinking again, this possibility is very small.

If he didn't plan on coming, there was no need for him to lie in the first place.

Cynthia told herself to be patient, but she was really hungry, so she grabbed a sandwich and started eating.

And waited until all the food on the table had cooled down, and the stairs outside the door finally came with a creaking sound.

The sound of boots trampling up the stairs, he's back.

Cynthia immediately picked up the water cup to rinse her mouth, and after confirming that there was no other taste in her mouth, she lay on the table with the invitation letter pressed under her arm.

Caius entered, his long cloak sweeping across the threshold and bringing in a damp chill.

It seems like it's raining outside, mixed with a faint scent of mint.

Cynthia closed her eyes and thought.

She pretended to be just woken up, dazedly lifted her head from the crook of her arm, and her misty blue eyes took a while to focus. Her voice was also tinged with laziness, "You're back, I'll go heat up some rice."

Just like a husband who has been working hard outside and is warmly received by his considerate and gentle wife when he returns home.

This will probably give all men a sense of home.

Unfortunately, Kael was an exception. His eyes couldn't hold too much emotion, and he simply took off his cloak and hung it on the coat rack before walking straight to the table and sitting down.

  "Someone has been here."

Although he is not here, he knows everything.

Cynthia grunted and stood up from the stool, but her movement was possibly too sudden. Her vision blurred and she stumbled backwards, almost falling over.

  It's all over...

She let out a cry of surprise.

This time it's really not pretending, she really got up too quickly...

Cynthia sighed and was sure she would fall on her butt, but things turned out unexpectedly.

Nor did she know how she was caught, anyway, Kael just sat down and appeared behind her in the next second, with one hand around her slender waist to prevent her from falling.

The intense peppermint scent rushed into Cynthia's nostrils, her back bumped against his chest, and her light golden hair was also squeezed in between. Her tone became flustered, "Sorry."

"Haven't you eaten?" The voice from beside Kael's ear sounded somewhat displeased.

"No." Cynthia rubbed her seven-months-pregnant belly and said pitifully, "I thought you'd be back earlier, so I waited and fell asleep."

Caius fell silent for a moment before releasing his hands from around her waist and sitting back down at the table, "The Vatican in DC isn't being very quiet."

Cynthia looked at him in surprise.

Didn't she hear it wrong? Is he explaining to her?

She stood there in a daze, perhaps foolishly so, and he lifted his face, with an expression of slight discomfort but still calm, asking: "Aren't you going to heat up the rice? How long are you going to stand there?"

"Ah." Cynthia came to, her mouth corners uncontrollably starting to curve upwards. She picked up the cold food on the table and walked towards the kitchen with a light step, "Soon, wait for a bit."

  Divine Light Progress: 18%

Standing in the kitchen and lighting up the stove, Cynthia felt that this kind of unintentional fall could happen a few more times, preferably with some dog-blood drama-style kisses.

She suddenly thought of the scene where she had forcibly kissed Karius in an attempt to avoid being executed that day.

She licked her lips and suddenly felt a sense of emotion.

It's like I've sucked on a peppermint candy...

Just as he was about to bring out some hot stuff, Kael had already picked up the invitation letter on the table and opened it.

Cynthia put down her things and saw his face with downcast eyes like a statue, for a moment she couldn't figure out what kind of mood he was in.

"That's an invitation to a party from Lord Gill's daughter." She sat down beside him and began to explain.

As a former princess of Riedonia, it's only natural that she would enjoy attending this kind of banquet.

"Where are you going?" Kael's tone was flat.

He seems to have vented all his anger outside today.

Cynthia stared at him intently, her eyes filled with expectation. "May I invite you?"

Caius gave her a cold glance, tossed the letter back onto the desk, and elegantly picked up his knife and fork, bluntly refusing, "No."
