Chapter 6 – The Turning Tide

  Earthpne? - Northern Arms Academy Sector, NE Border ZoneCng!

  Wolf was sent reeling back, his firearms falling apart as he had just used them to block a particurly nasty strike from his opponent, he still had a smirk on his face as he saw his beloved guns break part.

  "Those cost quite a bit you know. I'll have to send you the bill."

  His ghoulish opponent did not acknowledge his words, he simply continued attacking. A flurry of strikes using his arm axes. Though none of them found their mark, Wolf making the most minute of movements to evade at the st possible second, his smirk widening into a feral grin little by little, an Azure outline beginning to form on him. His constant dodging frustrating his opponent who let out a roar in frustration, a roar which was backed up by his energy and pushed Wolf back, though he reached out as the shockwave approached and seemed to somehow absorb something from it as he was harmlessly pushed back, his feet leaving clean tracks on the snow.

  Wolf's gaze focused on his opponents arms, there was a point where arm became weapon and on that point there was a strange vortex of Sein, two different sources of it. He quickly gazed to the other creature, the one Hunter faced, his grin widened.

  Ah so that's how it is, I'm being underestimated. Good.

  ===

  His opponent had taken his eyes off him, now was that time to strike. To kill. The ghoul rushed forward and struck at his distracted opponent, he was surely dead now.

  Except, he wasn't. He had missed completely and lost sight of his opponent, his empty sockets seemed to look around for his opponent but try as he might, they could not find him.

  Crack!

  He was being violently pushed upward, it felt as if his ribs were cracking with the force of the strike, he looked down to see what his opponent had struck him with, but there was nothing there.

  Crack!

  The side of his skull felt like it was giving way, he felt it splinter. Now he could see his opponent and what he had done. his arms and feet were now armored by a bck substance which sported azure lines coursing through them as if veins. Whatever this substance, it was hardened like armor, he could tell because his face had just made contact with his opponents right leg. He attempted to swat his opponent away, to get some distance; but he had vanished from sight already.

  Crack!

  Crack!

  Crack!

  Crack!

  Crack!

  Crack!

  Crack!

  He was being juggled midair by an unceasing barrage of blows, his opponent moving with such speed and fluidity that the ghoul simply could not perceive him, he could only tell where he was being struck. The st of the hits sent him hurling towards the floor. His body unable to move and his world going dark but not before hearing the st

  Crack!

  ===

  Wolf had crushed his opponent's head with his st strike, well it was more like he just stomp nded on his head but in his mind that counted as a strike. The snow which his final attack had unched upwards was now falling back down, he chuckled.

  "Hunter's not the only one who can throw down. I just don't want to make him look bad is all."

  As if mirroring the events that just transpired not a moment ago, there was another body hitting the floor behind him, Wolf turned to see the scene, expecting hunter to be standing over his opponent.

  His eyes widened when he saw the opposite. Hunter was on the floor, covered in cuts and some form of bck ichor which oozed from them, most pressing was that the bde of his opponent was firmly lodged in his lower abdomen. His eyes met Wolf's.

  "not...deathknight.."

  He wheezed out those words before being lifted by the bde lodged on him and being sent flying away into a nearby tree which he hit with a dry thud, his hands firmly holding the bde, disarming his opponent. He groaned and grunted as he attempted to dislodge the bde from both tree and stomach.

  Wolf acted immediately, he needed to buy Hunter time which meant he had to fight this thing, he had initially thought he was looking at a death knight but if not that. Then... what? As he rushed forward he saw the knight extend his hand, not towards hunter but towards the fallen ghoul, two streaks of bck liquid rushed past Wolf and converged into the knights hand before taking the form of a bde and solidified.

  He burst forth, using his sein to boost his speed as before, the ghoul had been completely overwhelmed with this but this knight, seemed to be well versed in fighting opponents with sein, all of Wolf's attacks had been deftly blocked or parried, the movement the knight employed was minimal and efficient.

  Well that's infuriatingly effective, damn thing leaves no opening.

  "Bharash!"

  Wolf was pushed back by a dark shockwave, he managed to block it, but he recognized it for what it was. Spellcasting, shortened incantation but spellcasting still. He chuckled.

  Well, at least I'm not being underestimated anymore.

  His azure outline fred for a second before he released a sein bst from his fist, the knight merely held his bde out and it absorbed the oncoming bst, rippling in response as if liquid.

  Of course...

  Wolf sighed, he was narrowing down the list of possible things that this knight could be, and through his process of elimination he was dropping all of the weaker options. Par for the course for both Hunter and his own luck, they usually got shafted by the odds when it came to these kind of things.

  Speaking of shafting...

  Wolf spared a gnce to see how Hunter was faring, he was on his knee now, grasping at his wound with his left hand and the knights sword with the other, instead of blood it looked like bck ichor was flowing from the wound. His breathing was heavy and it came out as a condensed cloud with every shaky exhale.

  Corruption perhaps?

  "Eyes on the prey...."

  Hunter's words snapped Wolf into action, barely dodging the knight's incoming bde. He struck back but it was once again blocked by the ft of the knights bde, the two exchanging blows with only the sound of their cshing weapons being heard by Hunter, who was desperately attempting to return to the fight.

  ===

  His breathing was shaky, pain wracked his mind with every minute move. His body begged him for respite, but he refused. He could not leave Wolf to deal with this thing alone. His gaze fixed itself again on his left hand, covered in bck ichor instead of blood, somehow Hunter knew that this was how it should be. Yet his mind was having trouble accepting the fact.

  I need to focus, stop the bleeding, come on Hunter MOVE.

  Stifling a roar of pain he jammed his balled up hood into the wound, he the groaned as he removed his coat and used it to tightly wrap around his lower abdomen, his jaw clenched so hard he thought he might break his teeth. His body now nearly passing out, he used his excruciating pain to anchor himself to consciousness.

  While this was taking pce he could hear the cnging cshes going off all around, Wolf was buying him time and the knight was being kind enough to not attack him while he was down.

  "How fucking considerate..."

  Hunter grimaced as he forced himself to stand, the act bringing a fresh wave of pain throughout his body, but he ignored it. He loaded his revolver and held it firmly in left hand while the right grasped at the bde which had been snuggly fitted into his stomach, moments ago. He sharply inhaled and exhaled before finally taking a deep breath, his entire body emitting condensed water vapor.

  Wolf nded next to him, the knight did so away from them.

  ===

  "Hunter you're in no-"

  Wolf stopped himself, he knew that look Hunter hand. Nothing he said would ever convince Hunter to stand down, best he could was try to finish things quickly before things worsened. he gnced at the makeshift dressing Hunter had applied. What was that bck ichor? He shook his head.

  "The usual then?"

  "Yes, but I'll provide back up, this here is much like Naomi."

  Wolf immediately understood.

  Right then, explosive rounds.

  "Besides these bullets I'm good for one attack, I can promise no more. Push him to the utmost, give me the best possible chance, I'll do the rest."

  Wolf nodded. he didn't need to have said it, Hunter looked the part, he was just about ready to fall into pieces. The knight was being exceedingly polite, which was giving Wolf pause. It had communicated before and though at the time he didn't catch it, it was through telepathy that the knight had spoken. He had only caught on after he started casting spells, its voice sound different from before.

  "Apologies Sir Knight, let's resume your final battle shall we?"

  The knight readied his bde and pointed it at Wolf.
