-----(Back an Hour)- Eir Igna ~

*Inhale* "Haah..." Taking in a deep breath, picking the fresh scent of the forest out of the refreshing mix of hot and cold from the dense mana as I looked up The Oak, I tried to slow my racing heart.

  Today was the day.

"Lady Eir," Hearing an unfamiliar voice, I turned swiftly to see a sweaty, heavily suited elven man kneeling with his helmet on the ground. "The sun and moon should be in position on the horizons shortly, and the final mana stone count was tallied." Looking up, his gaze matched mine with a deep blend of passion and excitement. "We are ready."

"I see..." Looking to the side, out across the water and over the wall of treants, I stared into the orange glow drowning the horizon while sinking into thought before shaking my head. "I will head up now. Thank you for the notice."

"Of course, Lady Eir." Lowering his head again like a knight, he put his hand on his chest. "For the future of Altera." *Woosh*

Watching him disappear like a breath in the wind, I quickly pulled some white gloves out of my system, equipping them to complete the religious garb I was wearing before csping my wrist behind my back and darting up the side of the Oak.

For the first time in dozens of years, it was quiet. Running up the side of the World Tree's trunk, neither the patter of helicopter bdes, nor the hum of ship engines could be heard...

Only the tweets of evening birds, and the taps of my own footsteps...

-What a beautiful day...- Closing my eyes and focusing on my breaths and footsteps, I felt my mind start to slow and rex, enjoying the warmth of the setting sun as I climbed high enough for it to crest the horizon. "Only a few minutes left..."

Today, the ritual would begin, but even as I reached the top of the tree and saw the millions, upon millions of glistening mana stones, it still almost.. didn't feel real.

Walking beneath the glistening canopy, doing everything I could to keep my head from spinning after being exposed to the ludicrously dense mana in the air, I set my sights on the altar at the center of it all.

Atop a vast stone ptform, the altar, made from a single leaf of the Oak, stood tall, holding up a huge, staff-like artifact donning a mana core nearly the size of my torso.

It was a mana core of a monster, recognized as a mercenary by the system... The key needed to bridge the path between worlds.

But even though it was something I knew existed, and heard of for quite some time, as I finally reached it and found myself looking up as if Looking for a star in the night sky, I couldn't hold back my awe. With the mana being so thick it was visible, I found myself watching as the core interacted with the mana around it, as if pying.

But it only sted a moment.

*BEEP* Getting my ears bsted with the obnoxious, electronic beep of the system, I instantly snapped out of my trance to come face to face with a panel.

I was granted a skill, one with no name or description, and an uncssified mana usage before being asked to register it. Like any other skill, I could set the cast condition to anything from a thought or visualization, to a vocal chant or physical movement.

However, as I raised my gaze back to the base of the altar standing before me, I simply lifted my hand and set it on the rge engraving of a tree and closed my eyes. -Register skill...-

*Beep* "Beginning registry. Please perform your motion now."

Quickly thinking of a prayer I used to perform back on Altera, a sweep of memories glossed through my mind before finally, an image appeared.

  *Beep* "Registry confirmed." *Beep-Beep*

Swiping away the numerous warning panels without even looking at them, I finally calmed myself.

  It was time.

"Hooh..." Letting out one final, deep breath, I kneeled before the Altar. "Dear Mother, who art above, I stand beneath you in prayer. With the sins I have committed, I present myself to be cleansed by thee. Just as rocks are weathered with rain, I am weathered by sin and disgrace."

Gently grabbing the leaf neckce around my neck, my body eased.

"Please be so gracious to grant your unfit servant the hand of guidance as she steps forward on the path of fate, for today, I wish to return to your embrace.. free of the burdens I once carried, wishing to be reunited with your sapling." As the image of Altera's World Tree once again came to mind, I reached out my hand and pressed it against the altar.

*Beep* "Activation conditions met. Activating Skill: ???"

*VWOOM* Almost instantly, my mind, body, and soul shook; my mind started racing with equations and images I had never seen, my body went numb as if my spinal cord snapped, and my reserve started draining, forming huge runes in the air around the altar before the visible mana filling the air churned. *Crackle*

-W..what..?- Barely managing to muster the brainpower for a single thought, my limited consciousness fell into panic.

But there was nothing I could do... My body was no longer mine...

All I could do was watch in horror as my body tapped through system panels on its own.

*Beep* "Companion confirmed. Activating world transportation failsafe. Destination: World ID 52816—Altera."

*WOOM* The mana density around the shrine instantly exploded by magnitudes, sucking unfathomable masses of mana into the artifact atop the shrine before a burst of red panels blotted out all light around me.

"E-E-E-ERROR! Attempting forced spell termination immediately!"

But in that instant, as the calcutions in my mind ceased and I finally regained control of my body and colpsed to the ground, everything else accelerated. *CRACKLE*

With every moment, the mana grew denser and denser.. rapidly growing beyond the point at which it became poisonous, and made my body start breaking down.

Until finally, after what felt like an eternity, an empty red panel appeared in front of my face, and the canopy above me was absorbed into darkness.

-That must be.. the gate...- The door to Altera. I just needed to stand up...

  However, I couldn't.

My body had no strength, and my mind was strained and exhausted. All I could muster was to stare up into the darkness, simply wishing I could jump into it.

All until something appeared from it.. a scaled, cwed dragon's paw.. directly over me.

One that only grew rger.. and rger.. before it crushed my exhausted body like a grape.

I died instantly, bearing the sin of dooming not just my race, but this world as a whole.

I didn't have the ability to feel regret, nor sorrow in my final moments, just hope that it was all a nightmare.. a hallucination...

  But it wasn't.

  None of it was...

And it was a sin I would bear through eternity... A sin that couldn't be washed with reincarnation...

  - Archangel Michael ~

September 12th, 2579. The day the world burned.

Flying over the Atntic, I looked a bck-winged angel in the eyes with a look of disgust and disdain. "Lucifer..."

Smiling, he held his hands behind his back with his wings proudly spread, as if funting. "Michael."

Gritting my teeth, I never once pulled my eyes off his. "What are you pnning..."

But his gaze never wavered. "A simple test, is all..."

Feeling his words weigh heavy, my face darkened.

"I just have to wonder... Why is it you believe Father will return?"

"Because I have faith. As one of his children, I can feel his love, as his warrior, I can feel his passion, and as his closest aide, I can feel his desire to cleanse the sins of our world."

"I see..." Pausing, his smile turned smug. "So you still believe he will return when a camity strikes?"

  "Of course."

Moving closer to me, he got so close that our chests nearly touched before finally muttering, "Then why don't we put that to the test?

*B-B-B-B-BEEP* Millions upon millions of error messages instantly blew up in front of my face before rapidly distorting and glitching. "W..what.. have you done..." Rushing to read a few of the panels, I forced my divinity to speed up.

But it was too te. Before I could even recognize anything was happening, Earth's Mana and Monster ranks skyrocketed to the point of errors, the world's rank jumped, the foreign system mercenary system crashed, and an exploitative connection was made between Earth and a Rank 3 World called Altera, causing that world to absorb our server, and consequently remove my administrative privileges.

Going wide-eyed, I looked at Lucifer through the wall of panels, only to see him wearing an even wider smile. "YOU DARE MOCK GOD?!" Reaching my hand out to the side, trying to pull my spear out of my inventory, I gripped nothing but air.

"Now, now, brother. You should know what losing administrative privilege does."

-You...- I couldn't believe it. "DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'VE DONE?!"

Gently pushing me back as I yelled in his face, his smile never wavered. "I'm proving to you, my dearest brother, that Father has abandoned us... Just as I have always said."

  "BY DESTROYING THE WORLD?!"

Tilting his head slightly, amusement dancing in his dark eyes. "Destroying? No.. I'm saving this world from blind devotion. If Father truly cared, would he let his precious Earth fall into ruin? The one he sent his son to cleanse of sin millennia ago? Would he not intervene?" His voice, calm yet dripping with disdain, sliced deeper than a bde.

"Your bsphemy knows no bounds." Clenching my fist, rage seared through me like a flow of magma.

"Bsphemy?" But he simply ughed in my face. "Truth, brother. But for what purpose should I serve a god who has abandoned me?" He spread his arms wide, as numerous panels appeared in front of my face again. "Watch closely, my dearest brother! Watch as your faith crumbles beneath undeniable reality."

Fighting desperately to stabilize myself amid the tsunami of error panels, I turned my gaze downwards. The Atntic Ocean, once calm in nature's embrace, now churned violently as monsters feasted on one another in the depths, drenching the oceans in blood, while the mana in the air surged uncontrolbly.

All around the world, camity had fallen, cities burned in brilliant bursts of light as nuclear weapons fttened entire poputions of creatures, human and monster alike, only for the fshes to extinguish one after another like candles being snuffed by a grander hand.

Watching as the world's popution plummeted like a rock in the ocean, I trembled, not from fear, but from a conflicting rage and grief that tore my soul apart. I was powerless, no matter how badly I wanted that not to be the case. "Father will never abandon us..."

Looking me straight in the eyes, Lucifer's gaze turned sharp. "Then make him come and stop me."
