Chapter 10: The Undead City, part three (116)

  …

“Wait,” Evil Eye spoke out, “Where is Viridael and Nabe?” she asked, and Momon looked at her over his shoulder.

They were currently riding out of the city in a carriage being pulled by Hamsuke. Evil Eye had come to the city alone, so she couldn’t really talk to her party members herself. She somehow didn’t know the message spell, so she had simply decided to leave for the adventure itself.

“They are currently going on their own adventure with more Neophytes. Just as I have taken Tatania under my wing, so has Nabe taken another under her own. The girl’s name is Sonia, and is a marksmen,” he chuckled, and spoke once more, “as you can tell, firearms and magiguns are becoming more common since the men-at-arms started using them a couple of years ago.”

Evil Eye simply nodded her head. She looked back to the world outside of the carriage that Momon had gotten. It was moving fast. Too fast for a normal carriage. This was of course because of Hamsuke, the wise king of the forest.

Yet, she couldn’t help but think of what she was doing. She was going on an adventure with her crush. The man she hoped to court, was sitting near her and she could barely keep it together.

Only her undead nature held her back. Yes, sure she was a strange and rather unique form of undead, yet her emotions were still kept in check somewhat. She wanted to simply sit near him and bask in his presence. That would be weird though. So, she didn’t.

“So, Tatania, how did you meet Mr. Momon?” she asked to try and break the ice.

They had been riding for the past five minutes in silence, and it stretched for an eternity. Evil Eye didn’t like it. Tatania and Momon were fine with it, yet she wasn’t. The little girl looked at her with a slightly reproachful gaze and spoke.

“I met him shortly after I applied for the job of adventurer. I simply wanted to get away from the orphanage, and this job was a good way to do so. Momon, for some odd reason, singled me out and said I had potential. That is all,” she said while she started to field strip and clean her gun.

“Hm, that was how long ago again?” Evil Eye questioned, and Tatania responded.

“Six months ago,” she said with a ft tone.

Evil Eye nodded at that. The girl didn’t want to talk anymore, she could tell. Yet she was still curious. What was her history with the others? What was Mr. Momon like? what did he like to eat? What was his favorite color?

She then looked at him, covered in bck armor. It was bck, most defiantly bck. She then looked to the ndscape passing by. Normally, it would take a day to travel to Carne. Yet, the roads had been upgraded, the carriage she weas riding in was moving quicker, and the paths were less perilous.

The roads were made of brick, with magic lights positioned about everyone a hundred yards apart from each other. The nd around the roads was left mostly wild, why and for what purpose, she didn’t know. Maybe the king simply liked nature. Then again, he was undead so that was unlikely.

It was truly strange, to think of that undead as a king. He was different from anything that she had witnessed before. In her time, she had seen undead become kings of undead cities. The entire pces being overrun with the lingering feeling of undeath.

To her, it felt nice, like being in a warm and cozy bnket. Yet, to others, it felt as if it were an oppressive cold. A stinging swarm of frost. The dichotomy was felt, and she did her best to hide her own feelings.

She looked ahead once more, to where Mr. Momon sat. She had heard that it would take a shorter time to get to Carne than it had in the past. So, she wasn’t all too surprised when she saw the bastion city of Carne.

What did surprise her though, was its size. It was massive. The walls were taller than the walls of E-Rantel. They were more angur as well. With what looked like cannons mounted on triangur points of the corners of the walls.

The feelings it invoked were of conquest. Like the rest of the world could throw the entirety of themselves at this fortress, this bastion and fail miserably. It made her think of the Ptinum Dragon Lord’s home. The floating isnd was a bastion much like this.

She was then pulled from her thoughts by Mr. Momon. His voice was deep and commanded respect. Her face flushed slightly in embarrassment as she thought that he had seen her gawking at the city.

“Tatania, Evil Eye, we are nearly there, so get ready to enter the city proper. After that, we need to head the guild branch there and attend the meeting for this mission,” he expined and the two of them nodded their heads.

  …

After Pandora’s Actor fshed his guild tag, which was a lot more detailed than the international version, the guards simply let them through. Of course, since this was the capital city of the Sorcerer Kingdom they had asked for more confirmation. So, he simply showed them his citizen’s badge.

This badge was a badge that was enchanted with a special water mark. This water mark was more like a signature of the creation process of the kingdom itself. If they didn’t have this mark, then the information could be faked, and the card would be seen as false. It was like a birth certificate.

The guards had let them in afterword, and afterword, Evil Eye couldn’t help but gawk. It was a city of marble. Or more accurately, a city of concrete and cement. The streets were made of carved brick and stone. Lit Lamps hung from posts in the air above the streets themselves.

Some of the buildings looked to be made of wood, others looked to be made of stone. The different types of building techniques made Tantania smile. It went to show how well the cultures were blending. It went to show how mush each person valued themselves and their own cultures.

Of course, not all cultures could be brought into the country, that was a simple fact. Yet she still found pride after she looked at the shocked posture of Evil Eye. It was a bit strange, though, that she would be shocked by this.

Tatania looked at the people walk down the street. Goblins, lizardmen, trolls, and ogres. The lot of them had not a care in the world. They didn’t care that the humans milling about their feet were there. They would have eaten them in the past, now they had food in their bellies. So why eat them?

“How did he get them all to py nice?” Evil Eye asked, and Tatania raised a brow, “I’ve seen different raises py nice, but not like this. Each person here looks like they agreed to py nice, not just their rulers,” she said, and Tatania nodded her head in recognition.

“Oh, this is quite simple. Most races cultures and teachings revolve around the idea of, “might makes right.” The king is the mightiest, so they agree wholehearted to py nice,” she expined, and Evil Eye simply sighed.

It was then that the carriage stopped. Evil Eye stopped moping about and looked up. Tatania looked to where she was. It was the guild branch, and it was mighty.

This was the main branch in this country for the Adventurer’s Guild. The building itself was much bigger than the one in E-Rantel. It was four stories tall, and made of rge, grey bricks. The roof was shingled with green terracotta, and the doors leading to it were massive.

A parking area for carriages and a special walkway to carry and walk mounts was off to the side near it. Tatania spotted multiple different people already walking in and out of the building.

She simply looked back. She looked back to Evil Eye as she gawked at the massive thing. It was then that she realized that she wasn’t looking at the guild building, but the statue of Momon holding the fgpole of the nation’s fg.
