The Captain bid her farewell and went inside, presumably to join the rest of the Avengers.
We entered shortly after and sat down in the front row seats. Taylor was giddy with excitement at this since her original ticket was somewhere in the backrows since she was broke.
What felt like thousands of people crowded around us, all watching the stage where the 5 heroes were assembled. One of them, Iron Woman, was a no show.
None of them looked like what they did in my previous life, different people, genders, and for some of them even a different look. Taylor pointed them out to me, unable to stop her nerdy yapping. "T-that's Dark Widow," she said pointing at an androgynous guy wearing a tight bck bodysuit that unfortunately left nothing to the imagination, "He is the most beautiful man in the world," she said dreamily, almost drooling, "T-that is what some say I mean haha!" she corrected sharply. "He is an ex soviet spy. One can only imagine what he went through…"
She pointed at the next one, an imposing blue-white haired woman with braided hair wearing used and scared viking armor. A great two handed hammer with a head made of blue, shining stone. "That's Torh, supposedly, a real, living Goddess." The previous Thor also had such delusions of Godhood. "She was cast down by her mother, Odin, for reasons unknown, now possessing a fraction of her power."
Next was a thin, short woman with a ft chest, golden dinosaur like eyes, and cat like ears that were lined with bck and white fur. Her hair was chalk white and her skin had bck tiger like marks interspacing it. A thin and deadly looking reptile tail wiggled around her balk, ending on a sharp bone bde. "That's The Beast," said Taylor with something akin to awe or fear. "The unfortunate victim of atrocious vilin experiments. On the pictures she is usually bigger and twisted into something deadly, that's because when she gets angry she keeps evolving into more deadly forms."
"Next is Captain Star, which we have met already. I'm not sure if you know her backstory, but she is basically a very famous US super soldier that was thought to have died fighting the Nazis, only to have been found some years ago, completely frozen in the Artic. Somehow her enhanced biology kept her alive through the defreezing."
"Last, but not least, is Archer." Archer was a slender, but fit woman. She was wearing tight leather pants with jungle cammo pattern that looked to have been broken and restitched countless times, military boots, and a pin green hoodie that seemed to have been equally damaged and repaired countless times. She was currently wearing the hood and only the lower part of her face was visible, a cocky smile permanently pstered there. "She has super reflexes and never misses, other than that, not much is known about her. She is the most recent addition to the team and so far her identity is still secret."
After all the audience had settled down, Captain Star got up from her seat and approached the podium with a microphone.
"Well, I was gonna let Luthor have honors, but seeing as she's not coming, I'll step up to the occasion if that's okay with y'all," she said rubbing the back of her neck and sporting a rueful smile. She had that goody-two shoes country girl vibe around her that everyone loved.
"I would love to say that the reason we are all here today is because we are visiting the hometown of Arrow, that she told us good things about it. But the truth is that we are here because Gothic City is falling to pieces. Of course there are good things about it, but Gothic has the highest crime rate, the highest rate of vilins to heroes. The things happening here…hearing Arrow tell me about her childhood here, what she had to deal with…it breaks my heart. Things need to change.
"We all know that most powers trigger from trauma, from the worst day of your life, baring some exceptions like me since I never triggered my powers but got a supersoldier serum. And Gothic has one of the highest rates of power triggering: most of these new supers are turning to viliny. That's why we are introducing the Sidekick program to nurture future heroes. We-"
The Cap was interrupted by a pair of sers that sered through the roof next to the stage, making a small hole. Then Iron Woman, still holding the circur piece of roof, fell down--right on top of me.
I was about to grab Taylor and move out of the way before she could crush us, but Iron Woman activated her flight propellers and began hovering in the air slowly descending.
Once she was a few inches from me, she opened her face mask revealing her beautiful face and raven bck hair. She smirked. "Pretty cool right?" she told me.
"You almost gave me a heart attack, so no." I said, unimpressed and a little upset at the unwelcome surprise.
She chuckled, "Sorry about that, my assistant, Janna picked the route. AI, can't trust 'em, am I right?" before I could answer, she said, "Tell you what, let me make this up to you: I'll give you an autograph." With deft fingers she produced a permanent marker and began writing on my shirt, on my chest area. "There we go," she blinked flirtatiously, "I also wrote my number. Call me sexy."
And with that, she flew towards the stage, not letting me answer, getting the st word.
