Chapter 25) I fell asleep

I found a group of three people, a male human, a female elf, and a male? female? something else.

The third one is a gnome? A dwarf? Maybe just a short guy. They have a high pitched voice but a beard.

There are adventurers in this world, awesome!

I’m gonna put a small stone structure nearby, it’ll say “To form the portal to another pne, say:” and then some gibberish that has no meaning.

I don’t have time to go searching for some ancient nguage and then writing a fake summoning ritual.

  Keyboard spamming is better.

They will have to try very hard to sound it out, which would probably make them more likely to go in after.

And this isn’t pointless for them, they for crossing will get enchanted armor or a wish or something else.

I haven’t had my Asterios body sleep in a while.

I don’t need it, but it might be nice.

I’ll just take a nap outside my portal.

  Just for 30 minutes.

  4 hours ter

After finding the portal Elowyn (the elf), Hercle (the human), and Durn (the dwarf) all walk out confused.

They expected some type of treasure inside a portal to another pne, simir to stories of heroes, but they came up empty-handed.

Except Durn, he got a ton of strange metals from the building which he stored in his storage ring.

“What was that p—” asks Elowyn, her long, golden hair flying directly in her mouth mid-sentence preventing further eboration.

“I don’t know” answers Hercle while ughing at Elowyn as she tries to get her hair out of her face.

By a twist of fate or something else, a bug flies directly into his mouth, causing him to cough as well.

The only one not coughing is Durn as he pys with an oddly moldable metal in his hand.

Eventually they find some strange prints in the dirt.

“Could it be a wolf?” asks Hercle.

Elowyn is someone who is well verses in tracking and hunting. While pointing at different parts of the print, she says “maybe some type of fox or monster. But if you look it seems to be bipedal. A beastman possibly.”

Durn responds, “A beastman? Here? But the kingdom of Dina is far away from the demi-humanoid continent”

Suddenly Hercle starts to follow the footprints, Dina and Durn follow despite having some reservations.

Eventually they happen across a sleeping boy? man?

A sleeping beastman, usually it’s hard to tell their age due to their fur and many types.

Hercle is the first to approach, while Dina and Durn just stare confused at this situation.

  Poke poke poke

  Wha?

I open my eyes, only to find myself being poked by someone.

  Who?

I blink more rapidly out of habit to clear my eyes.

Suddenly they start talking in a nguage I kind of recognize.

It’s the same one used by the queen priestess.

How do I talk to them?

I can use my outside view, but I have no idea what they would hear.

Oh, I can just use the same method I used to learn the wolf beastkin nguage.

I take the intentions or something out of thousands of conversations, and then shove it into my head.

  Ughh.

Too much, but I guess I’m an expert in their colloquial tongue.

A little bit of the words commonly used rubbed off.

The effects seem to have ridden off westward.

Anyway, I sit up and swat at the guy still poking me, “stop doing that.”

I look around and notice two others.

  They all look familiar… oh!

They are the people who I was watching earlier.

But how’d they get here, it should take a good amount of time to get to me.

  At least two hours.

And they were about an hour from the portal.

  Wonder if they missed it.

  “Hello” says the human guy.

  “Hi” I say back.

  We stare.

“Sooo… what are you doing sleeping on the ground? Was it that interesting?” asks the human guy while looking for something.

  “What?” I ask.

The words and tone imply a joke, but he’s actually looking around the ground? Is he looking for whatever interesting thing caused me to sleep on the ground.

“What’s a beastman doing out here? The demi-human continent is far west.”

  Demi-human?

  Are beastkin demihumans?

Also, is there a difference between beastmen and beastkin?

If there is, this’ll get confusing fast

“Are elves and dwarfs considered demi-humans?” I ask instead of think.

The elf shakes her head and says, “no, Elves are Elves, Dwarves are Dwarves. Demi-human references less populous species.” And then she asks “Who are you?”

  I answer “Asterios”.

She blinks and gestures for me to go on, “and?”

I stand up and say, “busy.”

Then I start walking away, but the human guy (I gotta learn their names) says “that’s not how the joke works.”

“How what works?” I say while stopping and then looking at him.

He answers with “you answer something like that when the question is what are you, not who are you”

But the joke works for both questions in his nguage?

I look at him and then asks(while knowing the answer), “are you adventurers? If so, can I join your party? Oh, what are your names?”

The human guy starts to talk “Well-”, but the short guy interrupts.

“I’m Durn, the elf’s Elowyn, and this guy” he points at the human guy, “is Hercle”.

  Durn, Elowyn and Hercules?

  Wait, Hercle.

Durn the dwarf, Elowyn the elf, and Hercle the human…

  What an interesting party.

Oh, I need to change my name to something starting with a w if I join.

Durn starts speaking again, “We are adventurers, but we are not throwing a party.”

  Huh?

Oh, party isn’t the term they use, maybe just group?

“I mean, can I join your group? I want to join the 3 of you.”

Hercle is the one to speak this time, “sure” he says while turning away.

  Good!

He continues, “but only if you defeat me in a duel.”
