Chapter 35: The Earth Spirit, the Woman and the Dog (Part 2)

  "Lawyer?!"

Seeing Zhan En disappear, the gray dwarves were suddenly shocked. What kind of development is this? He won't be casting some magic to run away, will he?! Or is this some kind of trap? That wizard wouldn't have colluded with Kadek to lure them here to kill them off, would he?!

No matter who, as long as they stay in a dark place for a long enough time, they will inevitably develop paranoid delusions - more importantly, many times this is not just paranoia.

As they thought of this, the gray dwarves immediately raised their weapons and formed a defensive formation, vigilantly staring around them. It was as if in the shadows there were already arrows and crossbows smeared with poison, just waiting for an order to completely harvest their lives.

Orders arrived faster than they had imagined.

  "What are you waiting for?"

Upon hearing the voice, the dwarves turned their heads in astonishment, only to see that Jian had once again appeared beside the stone wall, his glasses reflecting cold light as he stared at them intently.

"Hurry up, time waits for no man, do you want to stay here and chat with the earth spirit?"

After finishing this sentence, Zhan En's figure flashed and disappeared again.

This time, the gray dwarves also found something wrong. Looking at the small pond in front of them, Tog hesitated for a moment and finally stepped into the water with an expression as if he was about to walk into a knife mountain fire sea. He came to the wall and looked around. It wasn't until then that Tog discovered the secret within.

All that was visible was a narrow slit, just wide enough for one person to squeeze through, between the stone walls. The outside of it was covered with a wooden board, which was overgrown with moss and tangled with vines, and at the outer end there was a layer of twisted protrusions, so that it was completely hidden in the shadows. If you closed the wooden board, from the outside it would be indistinguishable from the wall itself.

This is probably why the dwarves have never been able to find the gnomes' lair. They hate running water, and so they rarely approach these damp places. The gnomes may be stupid, but when it comes to escaping, they are extremely talented. Even if they're being chased, as long as they can escape here and hide in the crevices, covering themselves with wooden boards, the flowing water outside will conceal their tracks and scent.

I really don't know how those dwarves discovered this haunted place.

Looking at the dark passageway in front of him, Tog hesitated for a moment before finally walking in. After all, eliminating the earth spirit would also be beneficial to him. At least... at least it wouldn't give Kadek an excuse to deal with him.

This road was far narrower than Torg had imagined, and even slightly larger humans might get stuck in it. Even the short and stout grey dwarves could only go down one by one. The wet moss underfoot made the already steep roadbed even more treacherous, and Torg had to be extremely careful not to roll down like a ball of meat, which he was sure would not feel good at all.

But to be honest, the place found by the dwarf is really unique. If it weren't for that wizard, relying on themselves, these people would probably have a hard time finding the truly accurate entrance. Now Tog even feels a little lucky to have Janen on his side. Janen doesn't know that searching for the dwarf was originally a task assigned by Cardak to Tog as a kind of curse. If he can't complete it, then he will only be able to lead the patrol team in life and death far away from Brandon Stone City.

But now, if he could complete this task, even if it meant some loss to himself, Cadrek would have no choice but to stay within the walls of Brandonstone!

After walking for over ten minutes along a narrow, steep and slippery path, the scene in front of me suddenly opened up.

  "This is..."

Tog's eyes widened in surprise as he gazed out at the sight before him. In front of the dwarf warrior was a massive cavern, resembling an enormous empty football stadium. The smooth dome above was covered with glowing moss-like organisms that emitted soft and bright light, illuminating the vast space. Here and there, one could see crooked streams formed by underground water gathering, as well as ramshackle houses that seemed to have been built haphazardly, like a refugee camp. In the distance, the characteristic chirping sounds of the gnomes echoed through the cavern, but they did not seem urgent - it appeared that they had not yet discovered the uninvited guest who had arrived at their gathering place.

Is there really such a place so close to Brandon Stone Castle?

Tuo Ge's eyes were about to pop out, he had never thought that under the ground he walked on every day, there was actually another world - with stones above. If he had known it would be like this, then he should have taken a pickaxe and dug here thoroughly!

"I think we don't have much time to waste, Mr. Tog."

Zhan En's voice sounded again, which brought Tuo Ge back to reality from his shocked state. When he looked in the direction of the sound, he found Zhan En leaning lazily against a nearby stalactite column, with two or three torn and tattered goblins lying not far away from him, without drawing anyone's attention, and it was unknown how Zhan En had done it.

"What shall we do now, Master Fa?"

Torg was also a seasoned warrior, he was just too surprised before. But now that he had regained his composure, he immediately showed his true colors as a warrior, with both hands tightly gripping his battle-axe and staring menacingly at the distant goblin tribe. Behind Torg, the other dwarf warriors also gripped their weapons tightly, with ferocious grins on their faces as they gazed at their prey before them.

  "Attack, take them out."

Jenn's orders were simple and direct, which was all that the Grey Dwarves needed.

"We're going up, let this group of green-skinned bastards know our strength!!"

  "Waaaahhhh!!!!"

At Jarn's command, the dwarves let out a loud roar and, led by Torg, raised their battle-axes high as they charged forward like a whirlwind. They trampled the ground with force, making dull sounds, and each small body seemed to be rolling boulders with an astonishing momentum.

There were about three hundred goblins in the tribe, and Torg led fifty dwarf warriors. Except for thirty warriors who were separated to cooperate with Ennoia and others to lure the snake out of the cave, he now only brought twenty dwarf warriors to charge forward. Although the dwarves were at a disadvantage in terms of numbers, it was clear that Torg did not think so.

The land spirits' ideas were clearly different.

When the gnomes suddenly appeared and launched an attack on them, the dwarves were indeed surprised. They retreated in disarray, kicking away anything that dared to stand in their way and block their escape. However, after discovering that there were only twenty of them, the dwarves' inherent cowardly nature took over again. Soon, a strange cry was heard, and under the leadership of an old gnomish leader covered in animal hides and holding an iron spear, the gnomes raised their weapons and launched a counterattack against the dwarves.

Although wearing tattered armor, the dwarf warriors were still a race armed to the teeth. The gnomes, on the other hand, were as careless as ever and didn't care about defense at all. Jenn could see a small gnome wearing a suit of leather armor that was almost as big as he was, but the thick garment not only couldn't help him block attacks, it even made him look like a clothes rack.

And the fact soon proved it, facing the goblin wearing leather armor, Tog only roared and swung his axe forward with a low bow, accompanied by splashing blood, the goblin's legs were cut off. He let out a miserable cry and fell to the ground, rolling hard, spraying his fresh blood everywhere - until the dwarf warrior's iron boots trampled its head, ending this futile struggle.

The goblins surged forward like a tide, while the dwarf warriors formed a dam, their battle-axes cutting down the goblins with ruthless efficiency, splitting them in two or more, blood and limbs flying everywhere. The dwarves showed a cold-blooded and merciless side, sparing no enemy.

  It's almost done.

As he saw the dwarf warrior impale a goblin on the tip of his battle-axe, Janne withdrew his gaze, narrowing his eyes and rotating the black staff in his hand. Contrary to Janne's expectations, the old goblin could no longer bear the sight before him, muttering something under his breath, then raising his hands high and sprinkling a dark, sandy substance into the air. Soon, the bodies of the goblins began to grow larger, their eyes filling with blood, their thin arms swelling like balloons, revealing powerful muscles...

  BOOM!!

Dazzling lightning tore through the air, shooting rapidly towards the old earth spirit. Faced with this sudden attack, the old earth spirit was unable to react in time, and before he could even respond, the dazzling lightning had already struck his body. Immediately following, a thunderous roar spread out like a torrential rain, as if a spider web had transformed the area within two meters of the old earth spirit into a turbulent, thunderous realm of devastation. As for those earth spirits——no matter what they had obtained earlier, they were now all reduced to charcoal.

  "Ahhh~~~~~~!!"

Zhan En's attack became the last straw that crushed the goblins, and as they watched their elder die, the already terrified goblins immediately turned around and ran. They fled in a panic towards the distant passageway, trying to escape from here.

However, a dark, gigantic creature swung its tail, blocking the earth spirits' path.

As they opened their bloody mouths wide, the fate of this group of goblins was already sealed.
