TBE Chapter 35
Ezekiel returned to the dining room to continue the box he was crafting since he was not sleepy yet. Besides the only thing he needed to do was to smoothen the parts of the wooden box with sandpaper until the whole thing was smooth as silk then glue them together and put some cmps into it so the glued parts would stay together.
Before he did, Ezekiel wanted to make sure that he completed his spell-casting for the day so he cast the Mage Armor spell on everybody, cast the Arm spell in front of the houses, and then renewed the Galder’s Tower spell.
He then went to the dining room and continued with his woodworking project. After all the wooden parts were cmped together, the only thing that he needed to do was to wait until the glue was dry, sand the box some more, and then paint it with varnish.
The next project that Ezekiel was pnning to make was still a box with a cover but with different types of joints. The joint that he used for his first wooden box project was called a butt joint but according to the internet, although it was the simplest, it was the weakest.
Ezekiel thought that creating wooden boxes with different types of joints would familiarize him with working with wood especially using the Mage Hand spell. He thought that once he mastered woodworking with the use of Mage Hand, it would almost be like a power tool.
The next wooden box that he would create would follow another video that he found that used a Mitre joint for joining the parts and a groove for the bottom of the box with thinner boards. It used a metal hinge though for the cover but he still wanted to avoid using any metal so he would use a snug cover type using grooves with a handle for the cover of the second wooden box.
Ezekiel was finding it fun to think about which next project he could make to practice woodworking and since he really didn’t need to sell them, there was no pressure. Regarding which small woodworking products he could sell, a simple search in his system shopping site showed him an unimaginable number and variety of them and all of them looked beautiful so he thought that it would not be hard to sell them and earn a profit.
He was getting tired after all that pnning so he joined his brothers on the bed and slept. The next day Ezekiel was woken up by Luke who was poking him and when the kid saw that he was awake, Luke told him that he was hungry. When he got up, he didn’t see Robert so he stood up and followed the kid to the dining room and there was Robert, waiting for breakfast.
His woodworking tools and the wooden box parts that were glued together and held by cmps were on one side of the table so Ezekiel put on the breakfast meal together with milk and vitamins that he retrieved from his 4th space tab and put them on the other side of the table. He cast Prestidigitation on the milk making them taste like strawberry milk and they began eating.
The dining table was a bit cramped because of all the tools and wood there but Ezekiel thought that they would just have to make do since adding one more house just for his woodworking project was a bit much.
After breakfast, Ezekiel’s brothers went to the washroom to do their business and he stayed in the dining room to clean the dishes and renew the Galder’s Tower spell. After a few minutes, Robert searched for him naked.
“What happened? Why are you naked?” Ezekiel asked.
“I accidentally got poop on my clothes and Luke made a mess on the toilet,” Robert said.
Ezekiel inwardly sighed and followed his brother to the washroom. He was fbbergasted to see the state of the washroom and immediately cast Prestidigitation everywhere to clean the toilet. Then he cast the spell again on his brothers and asked them to take a shower on the washtub even though they were cleaned by the spell.
He then cleaned the boys’ clothes using his spell until there were no more signs of the boys’ excrement anywhere. Ezekiel wondered how his predecessor handled his brothers before. Just thinking about handling the mess with his hands makes Ezekiel want to vomit.
After the boys were cleaned and dressed, they both ran outside to py. Yuki Onna followed them to monitor their pytime while Ezekiel handled his business in the washroom. Then he prepared Prince Charming by hitching the cart to the donkey after he cleaned up the stable with his Prestidigitation spell and after he fed and watered the donkey.
When everything was ready, he called Robert and Luke and told them to get their backpacks since it was time for them to go to the vilge. During the journey, Robert asked him a question.
“Why are we not going inside the forest anymore?”
“We don’t need to for now since I’ve reached the magic level that I’m currently satisfied with. It was really foolhardy of us to explore the forest and you’ve seen how dangerous it was.”
“It wasn’t that dangerous! You’re able to kill the scary animals using your magic.”
“I know but there’s still a tiny chance that I’ll be overwhelmed and we could’ve been hurt. For now, I’ll try to earn coins from the vilge safely.”
Ezekiel retrieved the st two boars from his 4th space tab when they got near the vilge and then they headed to the butcher directly.
“Another two boars? You surprise me, Zeke,” The butcher said.
“Well, that will be the st animal that I’ll be selling you for a while.”
“Why is that?”
“I’m not going to be exploring deep inside the forest anytime soon. I’ve earned enough coins for now that I’ll be focusing on learning my letters from Mr. Duvon and I’m thinking of selling crafted wooden things instead like wooden boxes, bookshelves, or small chairs. At least that will be safer.”
“I’m gd you got a good head on your shoulder. I reckoned that if you continue hunting animals, there’ll come a day that we’ll never see you again. We actually already have a standing bet on when that’ll be!” The butcher said then the burly man ughed heartily.
Ezekiel just shook his head and the butcher then paid Ezekiel 80 copper coins. After that, they headed to Mr. Duvon’s house. When they arrived there, the moment Ezekiel’s teacher opened his door after greeting the old man, Robert, and Luke headed directly to the courtyard while he and Mr. Duvon headed to the living room where they conducted their lesson.
“Sir, before we start may I ask you a question? Is there some sort of children's school in the vilge? I would like to enter Robert and Luke there since aside from learning, they should py with children their age.”
“Well, I’m happy you thought of that. The school would start in three days so you still have time to go there and enroll your brothers.”
“Does school start in the summer then?”
“Yes. You’re talking as if you didn’t know,” Mr. Duvon said, looking at him curiously.
“I hit my head inside the forest and have forgotten a lot of things. So how long does a school year start and at what age a child should enter?”
“The school year starts every summer and sts for two months. A school day starts from eight in the morning till noon. You will need to pay a lot of coins to enroll your brothers so as you can imagine, not everyone could afford to send their children there. If you’re wondering how much, it’ll probably cost you a gold coin to send both of your brothers there. Do you have the coin? I’ll lend you some if you need it,” Mr. Duvon offered.
“No, sir. I have the funds to enroll my brothers. Are they going to be safe there? Will the teachers be kind to them and won’t they encounter some form of bullying given the superstition surrounding my mother?”
“Since you will pay them coins and everyone now knows that you have some form of retionship with me, the teachers there should treat your brothers like everyone else but regarding bullying, kids are going to be kids and they can be the meanest creatures in the world. I know since I have been a teacher for decades. Just prepare your brothers and give them comfort as you can. If they’re strong, they should be able to hang on and form their own circle of friends sooner or ter. Regarding age, here in our vilge children start schooling around five or six years old until they’re ten or eleven.”
“Will they need books or uniforms?”
Mr. Duvon suddenly ughed.
“Why are you asking me these questions, Zeke? If you want to know more about the details of the school, go there and get your information there.”
“Sorry about getting ahead of myself. I will go there ter after our lesson.”
Ezekiel and his teacher began their lessons and after three hours, the lesson concluded. He gathered his brothers from the courtyard and after they said their goodbyes to Mr. Duvon went out of the teacher’s home and headed directly to the vilge green where they would eat their lunch.
