The next round was over quickly, two randoms with a Sandshrew and Burmy. Sandshrew won the battle by scratching away the Burmy's leaves before it could build up a defense. Now was time for Serena's battle… against Joey. Donny whisked Serena luck as she ran up to her spot on the field. The battle began and both Eevee and Rattata used Quick Attack. Both sides attacked in a blur but more than attacking Eevee was… dancing? No that wasn't fully correct Eevee was Dodging with such grace it looked like a dance. And Serena could be heard humming a tune for Eevee to dodge to. Both Pokemon separated eventually. Rattata charged with Bite while Eevee danced in place before narrowly leaping over the rat, and placing two strong kicks onto its back before landing and winking at the audience. "Woah Serena how'd you manage this, it's only been like an hour!" Joey yelled from his side. This little compliment actually threw Serena off rhythm giving Rattata an opening to hit Eevee. Serena panicked, she didn't expect Eevee to get hit and didn't like it. "Eevee I'm so sorry I should've-" her long winded apology and no command left Eevee defenseless to Rattata constant painful bites. Eevee sensing its trainer had panicked adapted to the situation it was in and bit back harder before kicking the rat off of it. "Vee!" This snapped Serena out of her stupor and she began to hum again. "Rattata don't let it get rhythm Quick Attack and Bite!" Rattata closed the distance and bit down on Eevee's leg before Eevee could dodge. "E-Eevee use B-Bite!" Serena still didn't like Seeing Eevee get hurt but she knew Eevee wanted to win so she would push past that. Eevee bit the rat back on its tail hard. "Raat!" It cried out but held strong. Unfortunately for it Eevee was bigger and Eevee threw the poor rat back. Rattata caught itself and charged in with Quick Attack striking Eevee hard. Eevee looked as if it was gonna attack again and growled before falling over, as much as it wanted to keep going Rattata was more experienced and stronger. "Joey Young is the winner…" Oak went on with the usual but Serena stopped listening. Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes, her lip quivered, and she sniffled. She looked at Eevee's battered little body. And this was amplified ten times. "Eevee!" Tears cascaded down her face as she ran to her partner. She hated the sight so much, she hated herself and how much she let Eevee down. Eevee snuggled into her trainer's arms and tried to sooth her with a clam "Vee Eee Vee." Serena stifled her tears after a moment. She didn't like Eevee being hurt and that was abundantly clear. "Ms. Yvonne, if you feel calmer now please take your Pokemon to the medical cabin."
She calmed significantly on the short walk thanks to Eevee's reassuring purrs and snuggles. Though, she still couldn't bear to leave the medical cabin as the nurse Joy had informed her Eevee only needed a little rest. In hindsight that may have made her look like a sore loser to the rest of the campers, losing and leaving.
Donny was concerned, and he left along with Goh, Chloe, and Joey to check up on her. After quickly reaching the cabin the four kids saw Serena sitting down next to a sleeping Eevee. Donny spoke first "hey Serena you alright? Don't go crazy over that, it was really good for your first battle." Serena smiled at him. "Yeah I just got really scared when Eevee got hurt. Even though I haven't known her long, we are super close. Plus I kinda let her down, I froze up and panicked when she got hit which made her get hit more." Joey was next. "I'm sorry Serena I should've had Rattata-" she cut him off quickly. "No, don't apologize for winning Joey, that's dumb!" Goh and Chloe added on to what Donny said before Hoey asked Goh to go and train with him. Chloe was sure to tag along following Goh wherever he went.
Donny sat down next to Serena with Eevee in between them sleeping peacefully. "Hey Donny what are you going to do after this?" "I hope I'll get to stay at home with father and my younger siblings for maybe a year or two before he inevitably sends me off again. What about you?" She thought for a moment before responding. "I don't know, my mom says we are moving to Kalos soon within the year." Donny sighed. "Honestly I don't know if it'll even be a few days, forget a year. After 6 months in the cave he sent me right here immediately. I just wanted some time, I wanted to show him Dreepy and Applin. But he just made me go like he doesn't care! But I guess I have 16 siblings, 5 still at home so he can't care for us all. But all he has to do is talk, the maids do all the work!" Serena looked at him shocked he had failed to mention he had 16 whole siblings somehow. "I can't really relate to that, I'm an only child. But if it helps you can call me or the others we all exchanged Rotom Phone numbers, we can all listen. Plus you can even visit Chloe and Goh at Professor Cerise's lab, if of course he lets you." "If of course he doesn't ship me off somewhere else before I have the chance." He half joked. Serena looked down at her sleeping partner. "Look at her, maybe you can even pet her now." Donny reached out and touched the small creature, something he hadn't been able to do before. "She's so soft." After talking a bit longer the pair left with their partner Pokemon both contently on their heads."
As they reached the tournament site the second round had almost been over its final battle, a heated match between a female Nidoran and Meowth. "Nido use horn attack and finish it!" "Meowth dodge it and fury swipes!" The Meowth barely jumped over the Nidoran and scratched up its back, knocking the Pokemon out.
"With that the second round is over the trainers moving on are Joey, Donatello, Ash, Gary, Anne, douglas, Daniel, and Kay." Oak expected a cheer but it was mostly a few claps and bitter kids glaring. Because there was still half the day left. The third round started up instantly with Joey vs Gary. Pidgey came out with a mighty caw while Rattata chattered at it. "Rattata don't stop moving, it's really strong!" "Pidgey Wing Attack it's just like every other rat we've faced." Pidgey dove on the mouse Pokemon who jumped barley to the side. "Jump on its back Rattata!" Rattata leaped with Quick Attack landing on the large bird's back. "Don't panic, Pidgey use Gust on yourself blow it away!" A powerful mini windstorm swept up below Pidgey. But this only caused it more harm as Rattata had to bite down into its back to stay anchored. "Rattata Focus Energy!" Focusing more intensely, Rattata bites down harder into Pidgey's back. "Pidgey run and jump onto your back use Gust as a Tailwind!" Pidgey did just that, it ran with gust before jumping as high as it could and trying to flop onto its back. Rattata held for as long as it could before jumping away, but Pidgey, thanks to the wind from Gust was able to correct itself before it hit the floor and took the air again. "Pseudo Drill Peck!" "Dodge it Rattata!" Gary let anger seep into his command after the showing from Rattata but Joey looked like he was having the time of his life. Perhaps that made Gary even more angry. Rattata was still a bit dizzy from being shaken around and was a bit too slow to dodge the spinning bird taking a direct hit. "Double Wing Attack!" "Bite Rattata!" Rattata nipped the bird before being pushed away. "Keep it up with Peck!" Rattata tried to back away with Quick Attack but Pidgey matched it to keep up. Rattata couldn't run forever and was eventually knocked out. "Aw man! Thanks Rattata you did super good!" After returning his Pokemon he was sent to the medical cabin by Professor Oak. Next up was Donny and Douglas. Doug sent out a Teddiursa while Donny chose Dreepy for this battle. "Teddiursa tackle and pound won't work, we can only bite it!" Teddiursa tried to run and jump at Dreepy but it missed due to the little dragon's speed. "Dreepy fly in a circle around it and use Dragon Rage." Donny was taking a page out of Gary's book and trying to create a mock version of a stronger move. Dreepy did as it was asked and flew in a circle around the cub making it from its speed alone. The dragon type energy from the move built up with the wind creating a Twister, hurting Teddiursa badly. "Keep it up, this is training!" Donny yelled as there was no realistic way he could lose at this point everyone else had their pokemon for a 2 weeks max besides Ash and Gary who had their Pokemon for 2 months. Donny had Dreepy for about 9 months at this point. Once Teddiursa fell Dreepy moved and continued for a few seconds before getting tired. "Donatello is the winner."
Next up were Ash and Kay Both took their positions with confidence and Kay released a Mankey. Before it even fully materialized it was running at Pichu in a blind rage. "Pichu shock it!" Kay hadn't even tried to command her Mankey the whole tournament; she'd just let it rampage and this match was no different. Pichu's Thundershock stopped it for a second but it kept going, reaching Pichu quickly. Pichu dodged to the side as Mankey tried to Tackle it. "Pichu run away with Quick Attack and use Thundershock!" Using Quick Attack to outspend the Mankey, Pichu ran away before turning back and shocking it again. That game of tag continued two more times, until Mankey's eyes glowed a dim yellow and it screeched, its ability Anger Point was activating. Muscles bulging, fur standing on end, and eyes fiercely gleaming, Mankey rushed forward with a Tackle that looked more like a Quick Attack. "Pichu don't bother outrunning it, let's try out our new move! Use Spark!" Pichu ran back at the Mankey covered in electricity. As Mankey grabbed it Mankey was shocked more powerfully than before. A brawl broke out with Pichu tackling Mankey, and Mankey getting shocked for every powerful hit it let off. Eventually with fur burned black Mankey fell. Pichu limped a few steps back towards ash before fainting."The winner is Ashton." Oak plainly said as Kay returned Mankey to its ball, and Ash scooped up Pichu into his arms.

Both walked together to the medical cabin. Anne's battle was so one sided it was barely a battle Snivy literally and figuratively wiped the floor with an opposing Psyduck, and with that match it was onto the semi-finals. "Our semi finalists are the impressive trainers Ashton Ketchum, Gary Oak, Donatello Draco, and Anne Seafare." Once again despite Oak's hopes not much clapping and more so bitterness. The semifinals and finals would be held tomorrow on the penultimate day of camp.
Donny with an immaculate internal clock woke up earlier than usual today a little later than the crack of dawn. He slipped slightly on the dew-covered grass, and morning air filled his lungs as he stepped outside with a sleepy Dreepy on his head. He made his way into the woods quite deep to find a familiar Scyther, who had recently become a great sparring partner, willing or not. Finding the green menace he and Dreepy began to lightly spar. Dreepy had been trying to use his moves at a certain percentage of full power. But Donny was thinking about what his next Pokemon would be, and about what he'd do after camp. He had half convinced himself that his dad would likely send him to Hoenn to see his draconid sister and half tribe.
The Draco's and Draconid tribe were always intertwined after all the Draco's were just a branch of the Draconids that ventured out of Hoenn originally to spread their faith in Rayquaza. Generations of the two had been apart until a few years before Donny's birth when his father Married a Draconid woman and had two kids. The woman, Donny's mom, had been an important person in the tribe too. But Donny didn't care for his mother or her position. Due to her duties Donny hadn't ever met his mother and had only seen his sister once as she stayed with the Draconids. Overall Donny had basically no interest in his mother's side of the family. Donny knew he would have to prove himself to them sooner or later after all they had the purest mega stones in the world, letting Pokemon mega evolve for a longer time and with less pain. His sister was someone he liked though the one time they had met she showed him her special ability that she got for being a child of "the blessed by Dragon Lord." Apparently Donny had one too for being his mother's child but he hadn't seen it yet. Zinnia had been so lucky to get hers so young.
All this thinking and history had Donny hungry, his stomach making it abundantly clear to him that he'd skipped breakfast and had Been working out on nothing. "Dreepy time to go! See ya Scyther, well maybe not actually, camp ends tomorrow."
Making it back to camp at around the time everyone else was waking up he was able to get breakfast relatively quickly and was the first one with Oak waiting to go to the tournament site. As they walked the normal group came back together. "You were up super early today Donny training?" Goh asked. "Yeah but mostly thinking." Everyone looked at him expectantly and he obliged them "Well I'll definitely be going somewhere after this and to be honest I think I might be sent to Hoenn." "What!" The group all yelled simultaneously "How'd you come to that conclusion!" Serena asked "Well I have family there to keep it short I have a sister over there not a half one either one of only two kids my dad had with that woman. Same age too. We look totally different though she's light skin and has deep red eyes while you can obviously see my eyes are purple and my skin is darker not to mention her hair is straight." Donny answered quickly. "I bet she's just like you personality wise though, egotistical!" Goh teased "Well excuse me for being simply better than most!" The other three laughed at the exchange. They had arrived at the site and Donny was up first vs Anne.
Snivy hit the field and Dreepy floated above. "3… 2… 1… Let the battle begin!" Oak yelled and both Pokemon jumped to action. "Snivy Leech Seeds and Vine Whips!" "Dreepy dragon rage 40%. Destroy the seeds with a Quick Attack 20%." Donny had decided to try and experiment with using moves at certain power percentages after his battle yesterday. After all, why waste energy if you don't need to plus it's practice in move control. Dreepy darted through the seeds destroying them and getting close to Snivy. Snivy tried to whip the wispy dragon to little effect, taking the brunt of Dragon Rage at 40% power. Which wasn't much to Snivy so it pushed through and got another Leech Seed off. Seeds embedded into the solid parts of Dreepy and began to sap away his energy while restoring Snivy's. "Double Team and Quick Attack barrage. We don't have the luxury of testing anymore." Dreepy quickly split into copies despite Snivy trying to get rid of them with Vine Whips, before all of them darted forward with quick attack and swarmed Snivy. "Snivy lash out vines everywhere!" Following its trainer's orders Snivy's vines began to lash out uncontrollably making a plethora of the clones fade before hitting it. "Full power Dragon Rage now!" Seeing an opening Dreepy belched dragon type energy onto the serpentine grass Pokemon. Snivy cried out as it was engulfed in Dragon type energy. Suddenly out of the sea of purple, pink, and blue could inch its vision, came Dreepy slamming into Snivy with a 35% Quick attack. Snivy weakly grabbed Dreepy with its vines and glared before falling over.
Anne returned Snivy and smiled wide, a bit too wide. The mild shaking, and clenched fists told that she wasn't happy though. "The winner is Donatello."
The next match started up quickly Ash vs Gary, a match everyone had been hoping for around camp as the two were known rivals and no one truly knew who was better. "Battle begin." "Pichu Thunder Shock and Quick Attack!" "Pidgey Peck and Quick Attack!" The two Pokemon raced towards each other covered in their respective type energies. Once they collided both cried out Pichu from the puncture of Peck and Pidgey from the Shock it received. "Wing Attack!" "Spark!" The Pokemon whaled on each other with sparks and wispy feathers flying all over before separating. "Gust!" "Thunder Shock!" The two attacks met in the middle and clashed, blowing up in a cloud of dust. "Quick Attack!" The two pre-teens yelled simultaneously. Once again the Pokemon collided in the middle of the arena. "Gust!" "Thunder Sh-" Ash wasn't fast enough and Pichu was whipped into the air, before being peppered with Wing and Quick Attacks. "Keep it up Pidgey don't let him fall and keep attacking!" "Spark and fight back Pichu!" Pichu yelled determinedly and punched the incoming Bird Pokemon with a fist covered in electricity eliciting a disgruntled squawk from it. "Pidgey, let's do our special thing, Mirror Move!" Pidgey spread its wings and shone a bright blue before electricity covered its body and it crashed into Pichu. "Pichu get up!" Ash yelled a voice full of concern as she watched the little mouse plummet to the floor. "Thunder Shock!" "Don't let it finish this with Peck!" Pidgey gained incredible speed as it dive bombed the electric mouse who weakly charged electricity in its cheeks. "Pichu!" Both trainer and pokemon cried in sync as Pichu let off its attack to no avail. Pidgey crashed down into the mouse and Ash's vision was in slow motion. He watched in slowed time as Pidgey's beak strained more and more against Pichu's belly, and Pichu cried. Then the bleak world he was watching shattered as he realized he was giving up. "Not yet! Pichu don't give up! PICHU!" Ash's words seemed to break through the pain Pichu was feeling as a bright light engulfed its body and the weak Thunder Shock got stronger. "Stronger Pichu we won't lose!" As the light faded a Pikachu unleashed a Powerful electric type move at point blank onto the bird charging its feathers and knocking it out.
Gary couldn't believe it, Pichu evolved to win. "Pidgey…" he raised his pokeball and it sucked Pidgey in. "Ashton Ketchum with an incredible evolution is the winner!" Oak exclaimed with a happy smile. That was it, it was time for the finals Ash vs Donny Pikachu vs Dreepy. This was going to end the same way it started.
"Our two finalists may go and have a 30 minute intermission, do what you must to prepare." Ash ran towards the medical cabin while Donny looked at Dreepy determined to win. They were already ready; they've been ready for a very long time.
