I had a hard time sleeping that night. As it turns out, trying to sleep on the wooden floor of a carriage is not a great experience. Who would have thought?
When the sun rose the next morning, I was already awake. The sky was quite cloudy today. I think I heard one of the knights compining about how it was probably going to snow today, but I didn't pay him much mind. The carriage went on a narrow mountain path shortly afterwards. It had enough room for the carriage, but not much else. The drop on the right side of the road was extremely steep, from what I could see.
I tried to figure out an escape pn while ignoring the bumpiness of the ride. After all, even if I did free myself from the chain, I would still have to find a way to escape without being caught. Even with my stats, there was no way for me to outspeed trained knights at level 1. Some sort of trick would be required.
I looked down at the cliff next to the path. I then looked at my wings. Then at the cliff.
'Well that looks like a good idea. I have wings, I should be able to fly.'
After deciding on an escape path, I turned my attention back to the shackle on my ankle. I had to figure out some way to get it off of me. I couldn't just teleport and leave the chain behind since I was way too rge for my limited mana pool to handle.
I got distracted when some white stuff started to drop from the sky. I eventually realised that it was just snow. I'd never seen this happen before, but I decided that I would have plenty of time to observe this strange phenomenon after I escaped. I had to stay focused if I wanted to avoid whatever the emperor had pnned for me.
I decided to resume testing on how space magic worked. I figured that I might be able to use it to teleport only a piece of the shackle to break it in two, but I had no luck there. I couldn't teleport only a part of a solid object. Taking a good look at the shackle, I noticed a hinge on it. Deciding that it was worth a shot, I tried teleporting the small rod that held the joint together.
Surprisingly enough, that worked. I wasn't really expecting it to, but it was technically a separate object. Well, I wasn't compining. I was quite happy, in fact. I just had to get away before anyone noticed what I did.
Fortunately, the slight snowfall had intensified into a snowstorm. I was gd since the reduced visibility would help me sneak away without being spotted. I readied myself and jumped off the carriage and down the cliff. I spread my wings and tried to fly.
That's when the first slight fw in my pn became quite clear. Sure, I had wings, but I absolutely did not know how to fly with them. The strong winds from the snowstorm also weren't helpful. Fortunately, my wings were still able to slow my fall somewhat. It wasn't exactly graceful, but I did nd in the snow below the cliff without breaking anything. I was, however, completely disoriented.
'Ouch, note to self, actually learn to fly before trying something like that again. I can't just wing it.'
After extracting myself from the snow, I looked around. I saw... pretty much nothing thanks to what could only be described as a blizzard. Well, it was probably a good thing for me, now. The knights wouldn't be able to track me down in these conditions. I just had to start walking, really. That would lead me somewhere useful eventually, right?
...
Yeah, I had no clue as to what I was doing. Growing up in a b isn't exactly ideal to learn how to survive in the wild. That was the second slight fw in my great escape pn. To be fair, the pn was kinda bad. Thankfully, I was still unaffected by the cold. I was fine, right?
Oh well, it's not like going back was an option. Finding out what punishment I would receive for what the knights would probably consider treason was far from my highest priority. Plus, it's not like I would have considered going back even if I had that option. I just had to pick a direction and start walking. That and to start hoping for some good luck.
