Finding the Guild was really easy this time, thanks to the map of the city that was carved into a white stone wall. It was quite peculiar, really. Every single street was aligned on a grid, making the city easy to navigate.
In fact, I wasn't sure that getting lost here was even possible. I did get a couple weird looks from a few individuals, but overall, people seemed pretty friendly.
The Adventurers Guild's building was pretty noticeable too. Well, that was to be expected, considering that it was one of the worlds's rgest organisations. Still, I thought that it would only be a rger version of the vilge's Guild, not a four stories tall building made of white bricks.
Walking inside, however, I was greeted by a familiar sight. There were dozens of adventurers sitting down at tables or looking at the several bounty boards that were spread along the walls. In fact, everything looked simir, except for one thing that was the exact same.
On one of the chairs behind the counter was a catgirl receptionist. Now, one might assume that with the amount of noise made by a room full of adventurers, no one would be able to sleep. Eva, however, proved that to be quite wrong.
I was curious as to how and why she was here, however. Last time we had seen her, she was at the vilge, which was several days away.
Still, I would've been amused by the sleeping catgirl had that strange ominous feeling not gotten even worse the second I got through the door. Something was seriously wrong here.
"I don't know why, but I feel like there's someone watching us..." (Nix)
"I know, I have a weird feeling too. Be careful. For now, we should try to get information about the bandits. Let's pretend that we haven't noticed anything." (Dragonfly)
"Ok! Let's go ask Eva!" (Nix)
In all honesty, we could have asked any of the four other receptionists that weren't busy. That, however, wouldn't have been as fun.
...
I may have spent too much time with Camity.
"Hello! Miss, please wake up." (Nix)
Seeing that asking politely wasn't working, Nix leaned closer and whispered something involving ice cubes and waking up.
Unsurprisingly, the catgirl just so happened to wake up right afterwards. Well, she still looked half asleep, but that was normal for her.
"Oh. You two again." (Eva)
"Yup! Hello!" (Nix)
"I change cities because someone found out that the rumors about it being illegal to wake up Guild receptionists were fake and I get followed... Great, my luck is amazing..." (Eva)
Wait, what rumors? I hadn't ever heard of something like that before. Had we accidentally destroyed a carefully crafted scheme by just being unaware? Oops.
Anyways, despite everything, we were here for an actual reason.
"So, can we know about the bandit situation? I assume that there are quests reted to it." (Dragonfly)
"You could just check the missions, but fine. Basically, lots of bandit showed up out of nowhere. If you can find where they came from, there's a big reward. Can I go back to sleep now?" (Eva)
"Yes, for now." (Nix)
The catgirl looked like she was about to go right back to her nap when suddenly let out a startled cat-like sound. She actually woke up properly, for once.
"What is this... So, one of the higher-ups wants to meet the both of you, for some strange reason. Please follow me." (Eva)
"Ok!" (Nix)
"Alright." (Dragonfly)
Whoever this was, I was heavily suspecting that they were the one responsible for the annoying foreboding feeling that just would not go away. It's not like we had done anything to cause trouble so far. Ok, apart from the whole plotting to destroy an empire deal, we were innocent.
Walking through the hallways of the Adventurers Guild's base was a strange experience. At some point, I felt like I was passing through some sort of invisible magical barrier.
Once I was through, everything looked different. I was standing in the middle of a vast garden full of odd vegetation. Despite the variety of strange pnts, each and every single one of them looked healthy. They all had their own space, and not a single one bothered another.
In the middle of all of this life, however, was a simple desk covered in an absolutely insane quantity of paperwork. It wouldn't even be an exaggeration to say that some piles of documents stretched to the sky.
At that desk was seated a fox beastfolk with nine tails. I quickly recognised him from one of the statues that I had seen inside of Camity's manor. This was literally just a god.
Why was there a god here and why did he want to talk to us?
"Anyways, job's done, tell me if yall need anything, I want to go back to sleep." (Eva)
"You know that I don't pay you to sleep, right?" (???)
"I don't care." (Eva)
With that, the receptionist walked off, leaving us alone.
