Chapter 42- Chaos and Order

Standing in front of a god is a pretty awkward situation to be in, really. The aura of annoyance that was emanating from him was not helping. I wanted to say something, but I didn't want to anger a literal deity by accident.

"Let me introduce myself. I am Order, primordial god of order and justice. I suppose that you two have already met Chaos?"

Did he want an answer? I couldn't tell, so I settled for a simple nod. Nix stayed silent too, surprisingly enough.

"You did? Oh, that's just great... What sort of trouble did you two cause to attract his attention..." (Order)

"We haven't done anything yet." (Nix)

That just sounded like we were pnning to do something bad. Tho, to be honest, this wasn't someone that we could afford lying to. Our best bet was to just tell the truth and hope that we would be fine.

"We really haven't caused any problems. We are just investigating the local bandit problem." (Dragonfly)

Before answering, he leaned forward in his desk slightly. I wasn't aware that something so simple could be so intimidating.

"I see. That's not all that you are pnning, isn't it?" (Order)

Well, that was an issue. How much did he know? Could we get away with hiding some parts of our pns? Telling a deity of order that we were pnning to destroy an empire could not possibly end well...

"We are also going to destroy the Gcius Empire!" (Nix)

  'Well, this is bad.'

"I see. I do not believe that I have heard of that Empire. May I know why you wish to get rid of them?" (Order)

  "They are evil!" (Nix)

Well, we were done for, weren't we? Wait, why did Order look like he had heard a completely valid argument? Actually, I wasn't going to question it. None of this was normal anyway.

"That does make sense. I must ask that you warn the guild before taking action so that we can prepare and keep civilian casualties to a minimum. You can just tell Eva, she will take care of it." (Order)

"Alright, we will make sure to do so." (Dragonfly)

Surprisingly enough, the only person who suffered from this conversation was the receptionist. To be fair, she had to be sleeping at work extremely often for a literal god to notice. Having to do a bit of work shouldn't be too bad for her.

"Let me just make sure that we have no other issue to discuss before letting you leave." (Order)

As soon as the god began to read the contents of one of the many files on his desk, his expression became unreadable.

After what felt like hours, but was probably closer to ten seconds, Nix got bored.

"Is everything alright? Can we go?" (Nix)

"No. No part of this is alright. Some of the ws that govern reality in your world were recently changed, the void swarm seems to have found it and Chaos is involved. This is going to create so much paperwork..." (Order)

This seemed like a great time to pretend that we weren't going to cause even more issues. Looking around the strange garden, I noticed a beautiful red flower and decided to casually observe it.

"I guess that this could be worse. There's no one trying to bring back a dark god, at least. Anyways, you can both go. I don't want to deal with this right now." (Order)

There was a fsh of light. When it died out, we were standing in a random hallway. Finding our way back to the Guild's entrance wasn't too complicated as we only had to follow the noise made by all the adventurers.

"I think that that went well? I'm not sure, honestly." (Dragonfly)

  "Why? He seemed nice." (Nix)

"I guess. I don't feel like something horrible is going to happen anymore, which is a good sign." (Dragonfly)

We finally headed over to the mission board to take a quest to investigate the bandit issue. That was why we were there, after all. The exact reward wasn't specified, but it promised that the pay would be proportional to the value of the information we brought back. Considering that we already knew that the bandits were actually some form of monsters, we had a chance to make a fortune from this.

As we were walking out of the Guild, however, I heard Order's voice. Nix heard it too, judging by how her ears perked up, but everyone else seemed oblivious.

"I almost forgot to tell you something. Dragonfly, you should try to stay away from the Church of Light. They see all dragons as representants of the Great Light Wyrm. While Chaos' blessing makes most people not realise that you have dragon blood, they might still figure it out. If they do, they'll likely try to make you a saintess or something simir. I assume that you would rather not have to deal with this." (Order)

While I was certainly thankful for the advice, I wasn't too happy to hear it. We already had enough nonsense to deal with without having a whole organisation who would try to recruit me on sight.

  Author's note:

I am back. The upload schedule might not be consistent, but I shouldn't disappear for two months again.
