Chapter 8: Hanzo the Salamander

Bke’s dad loved handguns. It was a strange fasation, especially sihe times were peaceful, but it stayed Bke’s dad hobby heless. Of all guns, he loved his Glock 17 the most. His dad expihe ins and outs of the on, disseg it and putting it back together repeatedly in front of Bke.

That was Bke’s goal with his Ice Kekkei Genkai. He had limited chakra, so he abstained from creating powerful and chakra taxing teiques for now, but a gun? A gun would work. It was small, yet dreadful on one and one. Even shinobi, uhey had sharingan or whatever, would probably have issues dodging bullets.

Now, how did a Glock 17 work?

A normal pistol would require a magazine, a trigger and gunpowder. Of course, Bke didn’t have her bullets nunpowder, but he had his id imagination. If Bke’s thinking was right, he could substitute the gunpowder with an explosion of trated chakra that would burst the ice bullet forward.

Bke sat in the middle of the training room, trating on the flow of chakra. He closed his eyes, going back to his teenage years. He imagihe gun, the inside meics. His hands began to feel slightly cold, as he felt his imagination e to fruition. Bke stretched out another hand, creating a mag full of ice bullets. After a few moments, Bke felt a headache ing.

He had used a good portion of his chakra reserves. Opening his eyes, Bke was disappoio see a deformed on in his hand. The mag was better. Despite the failure, Bke k ossible now. He pced the mag inside of the ice, and something clicked. The on looked crude, but it felt the same weight as a normal Glock.

Bke aimed the on towards the wall and, after some deliberation, put his index finger origger. “All or nothing.” Bke mumbled and pushed chakra into the gun. Then, he fired it. It exploded in his hands, f him to fall on his back. After the initial shock, Bke stared at the remains of the gun on the ground and at his bloody palms.

Then, he saw the ice bullet stu the ground. He had missed by a mile, yet it shot! It freaking shot! As he ied the bullet though, he realized that that it had mostly disied. Yet, despite his bloody palms and the destroyed ice Glock, he had a smile on his face.

  It ossible.

He o reinforce both the gun and the bullets with more chakra. Also, maybe, instead of pushing the chakra towards the entire gun, he o trate it in one single spot. It would require much more practise over the chakra trol, yet it rogress.

Bke decided to stop for the day.

Leaving the training, Bke made his way to the teen. As he stepped inside, he was greeted with all of the Akatsuki. Seeing him, all of the Akatsuki stood up, giving him a round of appuse. Bke blushed slightly.

Ever sihat first mission, Bke had participated in all of the uping ones.

One victory turned into two, then into four, then into ten.

Barely a month passed, yet Bke had mao bee a ember of the Akatsuki. All of his victories were fwless and not a single Akatsuki has died sihen. He had gained respe the level of the three founders, and it was pletely deserved. Hell, Bke had even gained himself a niame from all the victories that he had achieved. At first, among Akatsuki, but ter for the enemies.

  They feared him.

  Bke.

  The Unseeh.

It was cheesy, yes, but Bke felt that it fit, for not a siime had he actually engaged in a battle himself. No enemy has seen him and they died not having seen him. The other fas in Rain Vilge feared him. The meraries and bandits run away at the mention of his name.

Yet, Bke couldn’t feel all that happy. On his shoulder weighted the death of many. He had lost t how many had his strategies killed. Although he wasn’t the one doing the killing, but it was his as that killed them heless.

Bke spotted Nagato, Yahiko and Konan on a far end table and made his way towards them, sitting down after taking some pe and eggs for himself.

“Warm wele, eh, the Unseeh?” Yahiko teased with a wink.

Bke rolled his eyes. “I’m just a tacti.”

“A damn good one,” Yahiko said, grinning.

Konaed him with a nod. “Good m, Bke.”

  “M.”

Nagato simply ined his head, already eating. For a while, the four chatted casually, discussing muters. Then Nagato’s sharp eyes caught the injuries on Bke’s palms.

“What happeo your hands?” he asked.

Bke hesitated. “Just some training,” he said, looking at Konan. “Letting my creativity go wild.”

“Training for what?” Yahiko asked, his mouth full. “New ninjutsu?”

“Something like that,” Bke replied vaguely, taking a sip of tea. “I’ll show you o’s ready.”

“So secretive.” Konan smiled. “Now I’m curious.”

Yahiko ughed, exging a gh Konan that lingered a moment too long.

“Get a room, you two,” Bke teased, giggling as they turned red. Konaaliated by throwing a piece of ba, which Bke caught midair. “Hey, no wasting food.”

Even Nagato smirked as Bke leaoward him, whispering, “They’re so in love. Why ’t they just admit it?”

Nagated. “Maybe that’s what love is.”

“We hear you, you know,” Yahiko narrowed his eyes, though the smile on his face didn’t disappear. “Anyway, I have some good news. Like really good news!”

  “Yeah?” Bke leaned forward, ied.

Yahiko leaned in too, keeping his voice a whisper. “Hanzo has sent us a letter that he wants a peace treaty between roups. Since we are both biggest fas in the Rain Vilge right noould uhe Rain Vilge ond for all, thus stopping the rebels aernal shinobi from causing havo our nds. Isn’t that great?”

Nagato was smiling. “We finally got on the level of Hanzo. That’s amazing.”

Konan was tent too, looking at Yahiko with deep emotions in her eyes.

They were a step away from aplishing a part of their dream.

All eyes turo Bke, but the man had no smile. A frown painted his face, like he was about to go on a battlefield. Yahiko frowoo, together with the duo. “What is it, Bke?”

“Not here.” Bke pushed away his pte, standing up. His mind was rag. Looking at them, his stomach ed. He didn’t know how, but Bke had bee friends with them, better friends than with anyone oh. And he wao protect them, by whatever means possible. He had to tell them the truth about Hanzo.

Nagato, Yahiko and Konan stood up at ohe Akatsuki saw their ed faces, but decided not to ent and simply ate in silence. With Bke in the lead, they promptly made their way to the baly, where the rai p from above. Slowly, Bke took out a single cigarettes and lit it up with the lighter he had bought.

As he smoked, the Akatsuki stared at him, unfortable.

Then, Bke opened his mouth. “It’s a trap.”

“What are you talking about?” Yahiko was ready for an argument, it seemed.

  “I said, it’s a trap.” Bke repeated.

Nagato nudged Yahiko before he could respond. “Bke…on what basis are you making this statement? Do you know something that we don’t?”

“I ’t provide with you crete proof, and I am sorry for that, but I know what I am saying is true.” Bke exhaled some of the smoke. “Do you remember that mission, where we ambushed the Stone Shinobi and they, instead of fighting, suddenly retreated?”

“Yeah, there were pretty skilled.” Konan nodded.

“Nightmare caught one of them and I interrogated him personally.” Bke stated, drawing another frown from Yahiko, but Nagato calmed him down. “I am sorry I haven’t said about this, but I wao process the information before saying anything that might not be true.”

“The shinobi that I caught was, in faot from the vilge of Stone.” Bke sighed, putting two fingers on his temples. It was not truth, of course, but Bke had to lie. He couldn’t just tell them that he was from another world and their world was actually a form of eai in theirs. “Before I could ask him anything, that shinobi bit his own tongue off. However, I ied his body and discovered that his tongue had a cursed seal.”

“Cursed seal?” Yahiko was no longer frowning, but rather thinking deeply.

“Yes, it prevents the person from speaking anythiive.” Bke threw the bud of the cigarettes from the baly. “I made some digging and I found out that it is teique often used by Konoha’s secret anization, Anbu.”

“Wait, wait, stop there for a sed.” Nagato was clearly having struggle following too. “How do you know so much? And how do you even know about that anization if it’s secret?”

“I know what I am saying might not make sense, but I swear on my parents grave that I only want what’s the best for Akatsuki.” Bke stated, his voice cold. “I only wish for you to live.”

Konan was frowning, though she Bke’s words. “Assuming that is true, I still don’t uand what you are trying to say. The fact that Konoha is intervening in this region is unnerving, but not surprising.”

“The secret anization is trolled by Danzo, who I am sure you guys know of.” Bke said, making their eyes go slightly wide. “Danzo’s anization being here means that he might believe that this region could threaten Konoha’s peace. More precisely, he must believe that Akatsuki is the threat.”

“We are the threat?” Yahiko almost shouted. “We are trying to turn this pce for the better!”

“Better for us, not for him.” Bke answered promptly, shutting Yahiko off. “After some observation, I have made the clusion that Danzo has to be w with Hanzo. Despite the atta the Rain Vilge, Hanzo has never helped… and I think it is because he wants to get rid of the Akatsuki. The man has been holed up in his mansion, never going out, and he likes power. anization is taking part of that power. Do you really think that man is the kind to sign a peace treaty?”

  The trio listened, exging gnces.

  Nagato coughed.

“This is an iing view, but this is all based on merely observation. You could be wrong.”

“No.” Bke said a single word, vi high in his voice. “I am telling you, it is a trap. Please, believe me. I don’t want to lose you guys.”

There was something in Bke’s voice that made them halt. It was almost like he was begging? They hadn’t really seen Bke like this sihey met.

“Please.” Bke repeated, genuine in his voice.

Bke had bee an integral part of the Akatsuki and they had started listening to his words ever since a while ago. He had never led to the wrong path yet, and he had many opportuo do so.

“Okay.” Yahiko was the oo answer. “I trust you, Bke. If what you are saying is true and we don’t listen, we might actually end up dead, especially if Konoha’s Danzo is also involved.”

“I trust you, too.” Nagato added.

  “Me too.” Konan was in.

  Bke smiled in relief.

“However, what do you suggest we do? If we don’t accept the peace treaty, then we basically decre war, and then robably done anyway.” Yahiko made a good point.

“Go into hiding.” Bke answered immediately. “Wait out the storm, send scouts to see what is going on. If I am correct, then Hanzo will start searg for you, and he will want blood. Hide well, because they will turn this pce upside down to find you.”

  “And what then? Just hide?”

“No, we will attack, but not now…We o wait.”

  “Wait for what?”

“Me.” Bke smiled hollowly, turning to stare at pour down of rain outside. “You have to wait until I e back.”

“What?” Konan stepped forward, anxiousness on her face. “We are fag a disastrous situatiht now, acc to you, and you are leaving?”

“I have to, but I am leaving Nightmare behind.” Bke stated. “I am going on expedition to get another summon.”

That gave them a pause. Nagated. “Another summon? This is good news, but do you think a summon will help us face Hanzo the Samander and Danzo? If it’s at the level of Nightmare, then it would hardly help.”

“That’s true, but I don’t know yet what kind of summon it will be.” Bke ruffled the back of his blonde hair. “It’s hard to expin, but it either be extremely powerful or useless. Obviously, I will think of something in case it is not a good summon, but it’s a gamble, and we need every advantage we could get.”

“Do you need help with getting a good summon?” Konan narrowed her eyes, obviously fused at Bke’s ability.

“No, I have to do it alone.” Bke said the st part as a whisper. “I just o you to hide for now. I don’t know how long I will be out, but it shouldn’t be more than a month. Then, depending ouation, we will strike Hanzo back.”

Yahiko, Konan and Nagato exged gnces. It was fusing and barely believable, but Bke was their friend, their rade that led them to viany times, so they had to believe. They wao believe.

“And, one more thing.” Bke stepped closer to Nagato. “Your eyes. You haven’t awakeheir true power…yet to do that you o experienething so heart-shattering that it would destroy you. And there is one crazy individual that wants that to happen, and he won’t stop at anything. I am scared of him more than I am scared of Hanzo.”

Suddenly targeted, Nagato frowned, but once he heard the st part, realization gnawed on him and his eyes went wide.

“I am not going to say his name, but you know who I am talking about. rust that person, never. He is most evil of all, and he wants nothing but pain in this world. If he finds you, ge your hiding spot immediately. If he talks with you, listen but never do anything he says. Okay? Please tell me that you do that.”

“How do you—” Nagato was about to ask something, but theopped and simply nodded with a grim expression.

“You are scary when you bee like this, Bke.” Yahiko ented, but didn’t add anything else.

  Konan was simply too fbbergasted.

“Also…I need a few kunai’s, some shuriken’s, ten of explosive papers and some food that is easy to carry.” Bke said as he took out anarette. Stressful and dangerous time were ahead of him.
