Chapter 19 – The Apple Pickers Club

Tristian Petrea, it sounds romanian, Isobel thought, as she looked at the small shop in front of her, her broken watch clutched between her palms.

She doesn't start her new job in Fmel until tomorrow, so she still has a lot of free time for today, Nora and Pame told her where Tristan's shop was before they left her house for the day.

As it turned out, it was actually the small building that the family saw when they first arrived in the neighbourhood district, It was near that wall with the picture of those rougish looking missing teenage boys.

The building looked old, dark, and even messy with old, almost broken furniture inside, and out of it.

When she looked inside, Isobel saw that the floor was concrete and the wall was made of brick, as if this Tristan person didn't care about keeping the store clean, or by making it look new like other stores in Fmel.

Still, she wanted her pocket watch fixed after what Celosia had done, and so, after taking a deep breath, she entered the store.

"Hello?" Isobel called out, as she entered to look for the store's owner.

Celosia was in the darker emerald hallwaya of Besant, with multiple gss windows lined across a brown wooden wall, which all lead towards a door with a gss window.

There was various supernatural creatures and some with humanoid shapes that were sitting inside the Teacher's Office, enjoying talking to each other before csses start.

Celosia was currently talking to Maria, having been given her locker key and her css schedule. "Thanks again." Celosia smiled at the id back teacher.

However something was bugging her, something she wanted to mention now that she had met with Maria.

"You know Miss Maria, I think I've seen you before, when I first arrived on Fmel, I saw someone that looked like you." Celosia expined, Maria looked confused.

"You have?" Maria looked perplexed. She thought for a bit to see if she had seen Celosia at any point, Celosia however felt as though Maria was faking a gesture, but didn't say anything about it.

"I think I saw you at the market district at the edge of the Isnd." Celosia narrowed down where she had seen Maria, who stopped her gesture and ughed.

"Hehe, It was probably someone else that you saw that looked like me. Anyway you got what you needed." Maria said.

Celosia looked at the old victorian styled key that she was given by Maria, the key had three numbers engraved onto it: 042, the number of her new locker.

"Unfortunately, I can't help with getting you css books, that's up to your teachers, unless they want you to get your parents to funnel out some cash to get them yourself." Maria grinned a little.

"But you don't have to worry about that, we're not that kind of school, compared to a pce like..." Maria trailed off, thinking of an answer.

"Gyges?" Celosia gave out an example of a school, interrupting Maria in the process.

"Wait, you've been to Gyges before?" Maria asked, she didn't seem surprised.

"I've been to it yeah, not exactly the world's best school." Celosia vented a little.

"Tell me about it, your not the only one that had a bad time at that school." Maria mented.

"I guess that's a thing we both share huh?" Maria added, her smile soon came back, Celosia grinned before she nodded in confirmation.

"Well you don't have to worry about that here. You'll fit in well here at Besant compared to that crap school. The teachers here are helpful." Maria revealed.

"Well, do you have any questions before you head off, don't be afraid to say anything that's on your mind." Maria asked in a gentle manner.

"Well, I do, but not about me." Celosia scartched the side of her head.

"I was actually curious some more about Haruo Machida, and his family." Celosia would ask, but when she did, Maria's helpful smile, soon vanished.

"Oh, Celosia, the five minute bell might be ringing soon, I think you should get to homeroom." Maria turned and opened the door to the Teacher's Office.

"Sorry, I just don't think I have time to answer your questions after all." Maria said, suddenly sounding serious once Haruo was brought up.

"But you said I could ask you questions." Celosia said, only for Maria to suddenly closed the door, as if in a hurry.

But, Celosia knew that Maria wasn't in a rush. She was like Wesley when she brought up Haruo, she looked panicked when Haruo was brought up, further giving her doubt about what Haruo was really like.

Was just saying his name enough to scare students and teacher's around this school?

Was the Haruo that she saw the first few times really the real him?

Celosia had noticed him, and yet, he didn't notice her, Haruo, had kept to himself at the back of the css, while Celosia looked at him at the front.

She wanted to approach him during homeroom, but she was swamped by students who wanted to know more about her and what it was like to be human, what it was like to be around people who don't take you as a threat the moment they find out your different, even though Celosia still felt different among humans.

Haruo didn't seem to care, in fact he ignored everyone that morning in Homeroom, pretending as if he hasn't noticed Celosia. He leaned back from the desk, with one of his hands behind the back of his head as he took out his phone with his other hand, to look through any messages that he didn't answer yet.

In his mind however, Haruo was hit with numerous questions, like why Celosia was in this school instead of Conways, wasn't she human? How did she get even in? Humans weren't supposed to be attending this school at all.

What if she get's hurt? What if some fucked up shithead walks up to her and tears off her head, and he wouldn't be there to stop it?

Shit, SHIT, fuck! This school's dangerous for humans, she's not supposed to be here.

Does she know about him, what he really is? Did someone from his family tell her already? These questions became an anxiety for Haruo, but he knew he couldn't answer them now.

He flinched a little, his arm was in pain after this morning, but he held it in, for the sake of Masaru and Susumu who were sitting nearby.

He couldn't make them worried about him.

By the time Celosia finished answering every question the crowd of students gave her, homeroom had ended and she was annoyed to find that Haruo had already left for the next css, this continued until lunch.

Celosia kept looking back at Haruo, who often talked with two other boys that were with him, both blond, Celosia guessed that they were his family that he had mentioned at the store. Once lunch arrived, Celosia finally decided to check out the club that Haruo and his family were in.

Celosia approached the club building through a small open bridge that connected the main building with the club building.

She looked up towards the dark building, before turning towards the courtyard, where various students of different species sat around a fountain of three winged woman in dresses, they look like they were from the age of greeks, Celosia thought, when the gods acted like cunts to powerless humans and they acted incestous to their siblings and parents.

Entering the building, it was quiet then the main building, likely because clubs won't start until the end of the school day, the lights were off too, with the only light being the sun's reflection from behind Celosia, with the emerald hallway becoming further dark the more Celosia walked into it.

There were lockers and doors lined up in the hall, with the doors having signs telling Celosia the various clubs that were behind each door, all of which were locked for now, clubs such as astrology, maths, necromancy, oujia pying, chess in different dimensions, UFO making, cryptid finding, rolepy and writing, the tter two interested Celosia, the lockers likely were storage for the clubs.

"Shh, someone's coming!" A voice of a girl uttered from the top of a small set stairs as Celosia approached them, looking up, she heard a girl being shushed by another girl and boy.

"Shut the fuck up." The girl warned somewhere at the top of the stairs, Celosia could saw a glowing blue string at the top of the stairs, with whoever was up there likely expecting her to walk into it and trip her up as part of a prank.

"I can see it you know." Celosia called out from the bottom of the stairs.

"Shit!" A girl burst out from the darkness at the top of the stairs, she was wearing a red jacket with a blue bandana that covered her orange hair and had white skin.

She wore jeans and shoes as she skidded further into the the building, accompanied by two others, a girl with brown hair with simir white skin with a dress dress and white shirt under it who wore a dark hat, and a boy wrapped in bandages. Unlike the girls, parts of his skin that was exposed was a mixture of red and sickly green.

"Run!" The boy barely yelled out from his bandages as the three continued to run away from Celosia as she walked up the stairs.

She looked down at the glowing blue string, now on the floor now that those three were not holding it.

"Fucking pranksters." She lifted her leg and was about to step on the string to crush it, when someone else called out to her.

"Don't step on that!" He warned, his voice was famair as he ran forward to stop Celosia from stepping on the string, with purpose, the boy was Sota, who saw what Celosia was about to do from his club room and raced forward.

"Huh, oh your Sota right?" Celosia watched as Sota stopped near the string, she moved her leg away from It, as he leaned down and pulled the string at both sides so it was no longer tied near the end of the hall.

"It's not just ordinary string that trips you up." Sota held up the blue string.

"It's coated with low form of magic." He revealed, before splitting the string in two, a hissing noise was heard from the string as the two pieces of broken string began to drip with water and crunched up, forming into wet paper that Sota was now holding with both of his hands, he proceeded to put them in a nearby trash can.

"Shit, that could have caused my dress to get wet." Celosia looked down at her uniform.

"Petty bastards." She looked forward into the hallway, where the three people she had seen ran down on.

"Yeah magic like this is often used in pranks, usually because the Buddings often force someone who can control magic to make it." Sota hummed as he walked back to Celosia now that he put the wet paper away.

"I take it those two bitches that were running with that bandage freak were the Buddings." Celosia growled, still pissed by the attempted prank that she was almost a victim of.

"Yeah, they don't have... A good reputation, along with the boy, his name's Dillion Walker." Sota expined.

"Just try and avoid them." Sota chirped.

"Weird, I was given the same suggestion about you and everyone else in your family by that Shadi guy this morning." Celosia revealed, Sota's smile dropped a little.

"But I can tell your not a bad person, you and your family seem to be nice people." Celosia said, Sota's smile returned.

  "Thanks." Sota seemed relieved.

"Most of us are nice, we just don't tend to show it that much, unless it's by accident." Like that night at the store, Sota thought, they didn't expect to run into someone like Celosia, he became more rexed.

"Anyway, nothing really goes on here during school hours, I'm just, looking after the club room in case someone comes by with a request." Sota said.

  "For apples." He added.

The door to the Apple Pickers Club Room at the end of the hall was open, it looked dark with curtains blocking the windows, but that was all that Celosia could see of the room from where she was standing.

She could see more dark curtains, which were smaller, on the door to the club room itself, which were open, at the middle of the door was a small red mailbox.

Sota noticed the saddened look on Celosia's face.

"Well, do you want me to come with you to the Cafeteria?" Sota offered.

"It would be nice to head there with someone for once, you, seem nice." Sota complimented, Celosia smirked and even scoffed a little.

"I'm not nice Sota." She insisted.

"But, yes, I would like to go with you, so I can find out more about this club that you run, and maybe if people see me with someone like you then they can back off from me for a bit." Celosia realised what she said would come off as rude, and Sota was being polite to her.

  "No offense." She apologised.

"None taken, a wise choice actually if your not the social person type." Sota said, he and Celosia would approach the club room, so he could close and lock it up for the rest of lunch.

He doubts anyone was going to post a request, and if so, he could just look at it with the other club members after school.

And Haruo and Fuyuko would want him to have lunch before it ends anyway, and he was happy to do so with a new friend.

As the school day continued, a man in a long brown trenchcoat stood outside of Besant, a solumn look on his face, he was the only one that stood in front of Besant, while the students remained inside for lunch.

  He looked at it quietly.

Knowing the girl he met that morning was lying through her teeth.

And liars like her, needed to be punished.
