Unsurprisingly, trying to cook for the first time while having no idea as to what I was doing didn't go well. I began by picking up a couple tree branches and pcing them in a pile. I then tried using my fire magic to light it up, but I wasn't really good at it. I could manage a couple sparks, but no more. Sadly, the wood was way too cold and wet to catch on fire from that. After contempting my options, I remembered that I had a skill titled "draconic breath". I decided to try it out.
It did work, but it was working a bit too well. I managed to light up both my campfire and a nearby tree. It was a lot more potent than expected.
'Note to self, don't use that near anything I don't want to burn down.'
I thankfully managed to extinguish the tree before it became too big. Patting it down with my wings did the trick. Not revealing my position to the knights was still pretty important and lighting a forest abze was surefire way to do just that.
Now that I had a fire, I started trying to get a leg of the monster to cook. I won't get into the details, but it was messy. Trying to butcher a piece of meat without a knife isn't exactly optimal, to say the least.
I eventually managed to rip off one the legs and held it above the fire with one hand. Being resistant to both cold and fire sure is convenient.
Once it looked ready enough, I got rid of the fur and took a bite. It was frankly horrible, but it did beat the usual sludge by a ndslide. The only issue was that there was blood everywhere in the nearby snow thanks to my poor dismantling skills.
Well, it's not like I couldn't move away to go spend the night somewhere else. However, just as I was ready to get up and leave, a small, green and ugly humanoid thing entered my view. No, ugly was an understatement. That thing looked like the result of all of the world's best artists working together to create the ugliest being possible. However, the worst part was it's gaze. Those eyes were radiating with pure malice. I had heard of this monster before. It was a goblin.
These pests were well known for trying to kill travellers in order to steal from them. Fortunately, they were also fairly weak. This one must have been attracted by the smell of blood. It was unprepared, however, as it didn't have any weapon.
Deciding to strike first, I ran up to the monster and punched it square in the jaw before it could react. I heard a sickening crunch and the goblin dropped dead. I was somewhat surprised, but not that much. Goblins had a reputation of being weak, after all. A pack of them with weapons could be an issue, but a lone one was almost harmless. The only problem was that, where there is one goblin, there are more.
The blood in the ground from the questionnable butchering was bound to attract more of them. I could just leave, but I didn't want to find out if goblins were smart enough to follow my foosteps and find me. Getting attacked in my sleep wasn't exactly something I wanted to experience.
That left me with two options. I could either keep walking for a long while to get far enough away to be safe or I could try to wipe out the goblins to sleep in peace. Night had already fallen, so I really wanted to just go to sleep, but I couldn't do that.
Running far enough away to be safe from the goblins would take a long time and dey my sleep quite a bit. On the other hand, getting rid of the goblins would also take a while, but I'd at least get a chance to level up. Plus, since those monsters liked to steal from people, there was a good chance that they would have treasure. That felt like a really important fact for some reason.
After weighting both options, I decided to just go ahead and get rid of the goblins. I wasn't too sleepy yet, so that wasn't an issue. I had spent a good portion of the day running, but having 81 vit goes a long way to not get tired.
Just like that, I began following the tracks from the goblin that I killed. They should lead back to whatever hole it crawled out of. Eventually. Plus, the snow was just as annoying as usual so I had to use my wings. Oh, and it was extremely dark even with the light from the moon and the stars. I could barely see the trees in front of me.
'This sucks, would not recommend. Let's just get this over with so I can sleep...'
I wasn't exactly in a good mood, as some might have noticed.
